Louisville's Gen X-Mas

So does this mean GenX is no more after Christmas? 'Cause I don't listen and I'm from the Gen X generation. I only found out from Terry Meiners' tweet this afternoon.

I don't know, I think it's weird that 100.5 is randomly playing Christmas music this year (considering they didn't do it last year). But, knowing how much Clear Channel likes playing Christmas music on their stations, I just thought they decided to go ahead and bring a Christmas station to their Louisville cluster this year, since they haven't ever done it before. So, the Gen X format may or MAY NOT be going away. On the other hand, stations that have NEVER ever played Christmas music that begin suddenly playing it usually end up switching formats after Christmas--one of the ways these radio conglomerates like to kick off a change of format. So I don't know. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Wow, Louisville may have a total of four full-time Christmas music stations this year beginning with WLGX and WVEZ. WJIE had an all-Christmas music format last year after Thanksgiving Day and there are rumors floating around that WSYI will have an all-Christmas music format with their new Christian AC format. WFIA-FM also played all-Christmas music last year during weeknights and weekends.

Or they could put on a format that they use so they can keep the holiday music on there next year. CC tend to do holiday music on Hot AC, mainstream AC and oldies. So since Easy 106.9 is the only mainstream AC in town they might try that since Cox goes up against them in Classic Rock.

I thought it was amusing when I heard one of their jocks doing a speed break in between a couple of Christmas songs, talking about a new album from Black Sabbath.

Clear Channel is is money pinching mode. They could move Now to 100.5, but WHAS is holding their pristine numbers on AM and that will only last for so long. Give them an FM stick and that station will skyrocket.

CC still has to spin off The Fox don't they?

WHAS 100.5 will come out at the end of the season....thats my thoughts.

You guys can't leave this alone can you? WHAS is the #1 station in the market every book and probably the highest billing station in the market. I doubt if they simulcast on the FM dial they will make more money. So why LOSE money on a great stick?

In other words, it's not going to happen!

Have yoiu surfed the AM dial at night lately? The number of stations that now have an FM signal is staggering. Some that I remember are WSB, WBAP, and WLS. Safe to say that the trend is toward an FM signal for the AM signals.

Now sure that it matters, but on Gen X's FB page they insist the old format will be back after Christmas. Who knows, they could just be the last to know.

Did you mean to say, "WBBM"?
No, but you might be correct about WBBM. When I wrote that I was thinking of the frequency numbers and then digging up the call letters in my mind. If I remember correctly, I was thinking of 750 WSB-Atlanta, 820 WBAP-Dallas, and 890 WLS-Chicago.

Are sure about 890 WLS AM being on FM? IIRC WLS FM is #6 and doing oldies with twice the Cume of 890AM at #10 in the 6+ beauty contest. To the best of my knowledge, Cumulus / Citadel / ABC only has 2 stations in Chicago.

I stand corrected-- cause I do remember the 105.9 station as the FM outlet :)

"Meanwhile, CBS Radio announced Thursday plans to simulcast Newsradio 780 WBBM-AM on 105.9 FM beginning August 1."

100.5 should have stayed The Fox. Let C.C. use 93.1 as their wheel of formats. I still don't know why they dumped Louie FM. I just hope they dump Gen-X after Christmas. I know that the format has flopped in other markets.

i had a thought, one prolly not likely but something i have wondered about. when 101.7 gets spun off, does the WKRD format remain only on the am or will it move to 100.5? on january 1, cc will not have that signal. it got me thinking that WKRD could move to that frequency because of 790's alleged weakness in eastern jefferson county and it gave full coverage to the county. if j-town is considered east, i have no idea what they are talking about, i pick up 790 a whole lot easier than i could 101.7.

Now this is a legitimate post!

Is WLS on FM? There's a WLS-FM but it's Oldies. And don't forget WGY in Albany,NY...they have a 6KW FM that they simulcast 810 on.
