Louisville's Gen X-Mas

I Think WKRD would end up on 100.5 before WHAS would.

I would vote for this. I enjoyed having 101.7 to listen to because the night coverage is awful. Plus, while the FM signal wasnt the strongest, it still made it through the metal walls of some buildings better than the 790 AM beam did.... I say dedicate 790 and 100.5 to sports and UofL, give UK WHAS, and let it be. All the trading back and forth with games makes me dizy!

this

before uk took priority over uofl on 840 i recorded every uofl game. i have pretty much stopped that process because of the switching of stations. i'd probably would still do it if i knew what station my team was on regularly. i want uofl on a constant channel. and since uk has to have 840 because it's a legacy station (even though there is a second separate unaffiliated station in louisville that can be heard clear as a bell in eastern jefferson county at least that airs uk games. someone explain that for me please) i'd rather be on the station that i would say cares a lot more for the local team. WHAS has gone right down the toilet since 2006 in my opinion from a content perspective down to where if given the choice i would not want to turn on 840 for any reason other than a uofl game which is something i would not have seen myself doing 10 years ago. but i digress...

it wouldn't make much sense to re-broadcast WHAS on a prime fm channel. i could see WHAS on a sidechannel on 97.5 or 95.7 first.

I'd love to see WKRD on 100.5. I do wonder if adding so much grunge and 90's to QMF's playlist means Gen X Radio may not return. it would make good sense to me. I also agree with putting ALL the UL games on there.

Since Louisville now has 3 sports stations, I think that WKRD would benefit by simulcasting on 100.5. They already have local shows and I agree that all U Of L games should be on there. Just having the games would guarantee good ratings.
Or just move WKRD to FM, and change 790 to a format like Groovin' 1580 in Lexington. Or how about an oldies station on 790? That's a new idea! LOL

University of Louisville sports hasn't helped WKRD's ratings at all.

But to be fair, the cardinals have not consistently been on there....and when they are and playing past 8pm, you can't tune them in....

And you know CheapChannel are eager to get rid of any local host, but Sports Talk 84 is too popular to do so. Simple solution, move Lachlan to WKRD and let them syndicate the rest of WHAS.

Sports Radio 790 & 100.5, WKRD

After 8? That time varies from month to month. During most of basketball season the nighttime power and antenna pattern have switched long before any game begins. (This month it's 5:30pm)

But that was the whole point of 101.7. It covered most of the area that 790 didn't cover after the switch to night-time coverage.

This was all done to appease UofL after UK paid WHAS to give them pre-emptive rights. It wasn't done because it was a great programming idea.

And I doubt that they'll blow up 100.5 to make it a sports station in order to give strokes to Tom Jurich. They'll only do that if it makes financial sense. And I'm doubting that it will do that.

My guess is that they will either simulcast 840, or it will come back as Gen-X.

Interesting to see if they stay with the whole Card radio concept once 101.7 goes away.

TWO Gen-X's down...One in Columbus, OH and the other in Bainbridge, GA...next up..Louisville??? I have to wonder because CC has dumped the RDS on the Fox and Radio Now; and turned off all HD save QMF. But they did turn off QMF HD-2. (Of course, I'm probably the only one in the Ville who noticed)

BTW, Columbus went to Alternative...Bainbridge, Hit Music Now

Isn't there a Gen-X in Tulsa and St.Louis?

WLGX says that they will be back on 12/26 but they don't say that it will be on 100.5 FM. Maybe Gen-X will move to HD and 100.5 will become WKRD.
I read that as part of the sale of 101.7, CC gets to keep the WKRD FM call letters. They have to put them somewhere don't they?

I hope that's exactly what happens! I'd love to have WKRD on 100.5.

They do have to put them somewhere, but it doesn't have to be Louisville.

I long believed 103.9 in Louisville remained WPTI for so long as a call letter placeholder for a "Party" station someplace.

i talked to the underdogs at their remote on wednsday and i asked them if they would still have an fm stick when 101.7 went away. vanetti said they would, but i got the impression that he didn't know when the change would take place or which fm frequency it would be. i didn't go into specifics, but if i were a betting man, i'd put money on 100.5 becoming the new wkrd-fm when a switch happens.

Noticed today that Gen-X turned off their HD-1 My 80's station..... So much for CC supporting HD technology....

WOW! I guess there are two of us with HD radios in the 'Ville. BTW, My 80's is on HD-2...They turned off the HD-1 as well.

So one of the sweepers states that the Jocks have been given the week off....hmmm
