Love Is Gone now on 106.1 BLI

What favors can a dance record have to offer and who granted the favors?
these things depend on the label, or outside promoters;
then again, maybe they all just suddenly like the record

it's the new 'token' dance record of the season, it seems...how did this suddenly happen? the record peaked in the clubs a half year ago, it's certainly not based on sales, is this a 'testing' record,or were a lot of favors granted?

It hasnt peaked at the mainstream clubs.

I'll say it like this because somehow my thoughts tipped into a small controversy of sorts from other posters.

If a Z-100, 'BLI, or any CHR (and pay attention to "CHR") station calls this song or any other dance track that had been out but is being announced as "brand new", that is fine. I remember the whole "World Hold On" controversy. I knew the song was about a year old but was happy that the song finally got Top 40 airplay and thought it was a good. I feel EXACTLY the same with this song as well.

The issue that I spoke on comes from a rhythmic station calling it "new" because you do have more dance fans on those stations that know better. Am I overrating the dance music fan on this, that listens to stations such as a Pulse 87, C89.5, Z88.9, Party 105, etc.? That's something I really wanna know. Because if I'm giving a dance music fan more credit than others think they deserve then I'll back off and be the first to shut up.

But David Guetta getting airplay on "Love Is Gone?" Fantastic!! :)

The song is now Top 5 at Z-100!!! It's also been number one now for a couple of weeks on Miami's Y-100, and additionally it's Top 5 on K-104 in the Hudson Valley.

Most importantly is that sales are starting to reflect the bigger airplay numbers. As we all knew, this could turn out to be a monster for them.

Interestingly, a jock on Z100 said that the calls they are getting on this record are 50 - 50 for/against. BTW, he said that on the air after airing a caller saying they hated the record. Not sure why they would air something so negative on a record they are playing.

Digital Sales have also flatened out on this one for the moment. They are going to have to work on getting some big markets quick to sustain the momentum on this one.

My local CHR WBWB Bloomington has jock that miss pronounced his name as David Goodoe.... Funny Stuff, but embarressing to Dance fans.

Maybe the jock himself hates that song. He can say anything he wants on the air and he can have a friend call in and say that they hate the song. Why would someone call the station if they hate the song? There's something called a tuning knob/button. If you don't like the song, change the station. Calling the station probably will make it play the song more.

People call stations for all kinds of reasons but it's very odd for a dj to put a caller on that speaks negatively about a song the station is playing.

A jock can hate a song all he or she wants, its not their call. When they are on the air, this is the greatest song in the world. If one of my djs ripped on a song on the air, they are going to hear about it and possibly be canned

Why people call stations cause they hate something? I guess you havent worked in radio that long. Watch Private Parts it will explain that reason. People will call in to embarass the dj or host all the time.

yeah, but it's dropping at Z quickly, and barely dented Mediabase nationally, squeaked into the thirties(38,39) for about two weeks, and was gone from the top 40,not nearly what people thought was the beginning of a 'movement'; now it'll disappear and September gets a turn

And where did your song peak on the charts?

awwww,does the truth sting, honey? All I did was recount the realities,and the reality is that "Love Is Gone" was given all the options at powerhouse CHRs like Z100 (that I have indeed been denied) and the mass audience, when exposed to this product, gave out a collective yawn ,basically,and flushed it.....as an artist,that is a much more embarrassing situation than being passed over,since you chose to bring the subject up;
everytime I inject a dose of reality into the conversation, it has no bearing on my FABULOUS projects, except, obviously in your mind...but I got news for you; a mainstream friendly track like "Dance floor" would acquire a lot more ears with the casual Top 40 listener than a Guetta record would, simply because the Guetta records, while wonderful,have no common ground with the average CHR listener, while "Dance floor" comes from a tested time line of participation records like "Macarena", "Cha Cha Slide", etc...
sO THERE!

I think the mere fact that this song entered the CHR/Pop chart, and was played on two dozen CHRs is pretty big.
The audience didn't hate the song, otherwise Z-100 would have never given it power status. Remember, the song peaked inside Z-100's Top 5. It was/is also a monster hit in Miami at both Power 96 and Y-100, and months from now those station will still be playing that song.
I also see that "Love Is Gone" is starting to rebound at Z-100, and has just been added to Kiss 108 Boston. With Wired 96 adding the song, don't be surprised to see it move back up on Q-102 in Philly. The fact that this record is getting airplay in towns like Springfield, Missouri, or Columbus, Georgia says a LOT!

I also know David is thrilled to be getting airplay in America. He's mentioned it on his myspace page.

Already up to more then 30 spins at Wired, and as predicted the song starts to bounce back at Q-102 Philly.
B-96 Chicago may also be adding it.
