There's something so quirky about KAZG that keeps Nurse Jeff and me coming back to the Mighty 14~Forty! Is it because of their self supported, paint peeled tower sandwiched between a lumberyard and the Crosscut Canal? How 'bout those "yank the plug" signoffs with no mention of call letters, city of license, or when they'll return to the air? Maybe it's because they're the last daytimer left in Phoenix, even though they can journey into the night with a blazing 52 watts of music pow-pow-power? But today the Nurse and I heard another reason to listen to Lumberyard 14~Forty. Around 5:40p on Tuesday (a good five minutes ahead of local sunset) KAZG was off the air and we heard commercials on the frequency. Turns out it was KINF in Santa Maria, CA, some 600+ miles away, blastin' in with their 5kw non directional signal. Thanks to IBOC, we haven't been able to DX in the Gremlin the past couple of years. Guess KSUN 14~Hundred & KPHX 14~Eighty aren't runnin' with that piece of crap. The gods of skywave were with us as we drove down Thomas Road with visions of the Lumberyard firing up that 52 watts and letting it rip after dark! What this market needs is 24 hours of fourteen in a row from 14~Forty!
