LYNN CULLEN IS RETURNING TO THE AIRWAVES

my 95 year old New Deal Liberal mother will be thrilled. She can't stay up late enough for Rachel Maddow.

I know 95 is not a prime demo, but I'm not kidding. She was glued to 1360. She also loves Keith, Rachel, and Jon Stewart. She will be thrilled if this is true. She doesn't know who kd is. She hates Rush, Billlo, and Hannity. She loved FDR , JFK, and BIll Clinton. She actually still has money to spend. Advertisers should not write her demo off.

It makes sense on a lot of levels. WAMO-AM has a decent lineup for its audience, but this will bring more people to listen to the station.

Lynn Cullen will bring more listeners to Bev Smith, for instance, simply because Smith's show was never marketed to the audience that listened to Cullen despite the fact they are both liberal hosts.

Hopefully there will be a lot of barriers fall with these audiences coming together. I know I was offended a few years back by WAMO-AM's marketing campaign with billboards featuring white police officers confronting a group of black people.

YES , if---------------

1) She is on after sundown

2) Can the signal reach the Maxon Towers at Forbes and Shady. I think 860 comes in better at night in that area than 1360. 860 is listenable at night there, while 1360 is not.

Do you think it matters to anyone besides her two supporters on this board?

I mean really, she's going to a small AM with nothing more than a casual audience, there's unlikely to be any promotion, and even if there was, it's not like there's this groundswell of listeners. She was the #1 draw on 1360 and they went out of business.

Ms- Does your mom live in the Maxon Towers?

Part- I've seen WAMO-AM compete with WEAE for ratings in the past.

Now, I realize that's less than 2.0.

But I don't think we can dismiss WEAE has influence in the local sports scene.

As such, could WAMO-AM have influence in local political circles?

Don't make the comparison on 12+ numbers. EAE has decent Men 25-54 positioning.

I seriously doubt it. KD barely matters at times.

I'll give them credit for trying to do a little talk block, backing Lynn's show up against Bev Smith, they'll maybe share a few listeners, but I reiterate my 1-share comment from earlier.

I am part of Lynn Cullen's Yahoo group. Here is a message from her that she sent out the participants.

"[email protected]" Add sender to Contacts To: [email protected]ello to my wonderful friends,

You asked me to let you know when I got a new show, and I have great news!

I’ll be back on the radio
Monday thru Friday 5 p.m. - 7 p.m.
On AM 860
Beginning THIS Monday, March 9

Studio call-in: 412-333-9133

Listen live at: http://www.wamoam.com/

After six long months of involuntary silence, I’m finally coming back. My gratitude to Sheridan Broadcasting and WAMO for thinking outside the proverbial box and my gratitude to all of you who’ve been so extraordinarily supportive during this half-year of unemployment. I haven’t been able to talk about the news, but I sure have been living it. It’s time for someone else to collect my unemployment $$ now. (I hear there’s no shortage of potential recipients.)

As thrilled as I am to be back, I'm going to need your help. Here's how:

1. Spread the word. Forward this email, send your own, tell your friends, wear a sign.

2. Call in! Remember, it's our conversation, your input, that makes the show fun. Which brings up the second piece of good news...Matt's coming with me! He'll be there to answer your calls, so we'll all feel right at home.

Boy, do we have a lot to talk about. Let’s get started, March 9 at 5:00PM on AM 860.

Love ya,

Lynn

P.S. If you received this twice, I apologize for the email snafu!

Part- Much like WEAE with men, don't you think WAMO-AM has a decent demographic of African-Americans?

Please don't take this personally, but the dismissiveness of these AM stations- we could even call them "crapkickers"- by a few on this board is simply not valid in my opinion.

Okay, it's not the band for music.

But it is in so many cases where careers start, where the talent can be creative and informative, and it hits a target demographic- be it sports junkies like me or the wealthy with business talk or the informed with news or what have you.

Ratings might not tell the whole story here. Sure, WMNY gets lower ratings than it did as WPTT.

However, it is targeting a more affluent audience. I'm sure they make more money, and even if they lost a significant audience share they may actually have more influence (Lynn Cullen talking about George Bush has NO influence on Washington. None. Nada. A businessman telling you what to invest in and making you rich- that has influence).

To me, it's about quality. KQV getting a soundbite and breaking something big from City Hall, or hearing a Coldplay record announced?

You're caught up in the 12+ numbers here. I can't see 25-54's but EAE is probably closee to the top 5 in men. I'd be surpirised if WAMO-A has any strong concentration like that (race isn't typically a sales demo, it's age group and gender that are sellable if you're selling ratings).

Bottom line is they're the #20 station in the market. That's OK if you're in NY, but it won't do much for you here. Then again, KD's 25-54's aren't much better (and I will talk about your ratings post later, but comparing DVE and KD 12+ is truly apples and oranges... almost all of DVE's numbers are 25-54's, virtually none of KD's are).

My mother lives in the Maxon Towers. A true throw back to Stalinist form and function.
