Never heard of it.
I need to add that during that time, it was referred to as "102 Jams."

How about he's in the wrong market? Q 102 was a D/FW radio station at 102.1 under the calls KTXQ. It was a rock station. Now billed as 102.1 The Edge, still a rock station only it's alternative as opposed to active.
Our Majic 102, has been around for about 30 years, minus the referenced 102 Jamz that appears above. That occurred during, I believe, Clear Channel's ownership of the station.

"Majic 102" became "102 Jamz" in 1990 or 1991. "97.9 The Boxx" launched in 1991 not as an urban, but a dance heavy CHR/Rhythmic but quickly phased the dance product out. I believe it directly competed with both KMJQ and KHYS and indirectly with KKBQ-FM and KRBE. When KBXX and KMJQ became sister stations, KMJQ flipped to Urban AC as "Majic 102". I think the only "Q"'s Houston's ever had have been at 92.9 FM and 790 AM. Does that sound right?

maybe this person told me wrong that what somebody told me there was a q102.1 or maybe I heard wrong because I was so young but this is a good station too just forget when I said q 102.1 because I could be miss herring things

KMJQ was owned by Evergreen Communications. Clear Channel bought them after the 1996 Telecom Act along with KHYS, KBXX, and KJOJ. KBXX bought KMJQ in 1995 due to FCC regulations you could not own more than one radio station that has the same format unless it is a simulcast due to Anti Trust Laws a ruling made in 1993.
There was also KYOK AM1590 Yo 1590 Raps (1991-1992) which was all Rap. Before that, that station was an R&B station.
