You are supposed to know it all. Figure it out. I did. They are also selling two in Albany and one in Macon.

Cumulus Places 19 Smaller Market Outlets into Trust

Cumulus has placed a number of mostly smaller market outlets in its Stratus Radio trust for divestiture. The moves were made in order to meet the FCC's current ownership restrictions. The stations whose ownership is being moved into the trust and are scheduled to be sold include:

CHR WNUQ-FM (Q102) and Urban AC WZBN-FM/Albany, GA
Country KOLI-FM (The Outlaw)/Electra, TX
AC KYNF-FM (Y94.9)/Fayetteville, AR
Urban AC WCMG-FM (Magic 94.3) and Country WHLZ-FM/Florence, SC
CHR WMGB-FM (B95.1)/Macon, GA
Spanish Urban KGEE-FM/Midland, TX;
Nostalgia WNZZ-AM/Montgomery, AL
Sports WJXY-FM and WXJY-FM (The Team)/Myrtle Beach, SC
Oldies WOGB-FM/Oshkosh, WI
Nostalgia WSOM-AM and AC WLLF-FM (96.7 The River)/Salem, OH
Urban AC WTYB-FM (Magic 103.9)/Savannah, GA
Sports WKOR-AM/Starkville, MS
Classic Rock KLTD-FM (Eagle 101.7)/Temple, TX
CHR WTWR-FM and Classic Rock WXKR-FM/Toledo
Stratus Radio is operated by Scott Knoblauch as is listed as the trustee. (11-05-07)

Big question is: Who would buy WTYB? My thoughts would say CC. They flip Magic, give WLVH their monster ratings back, then put gospel music on 103.9 and make bank on that, too.

Tama might buy, but they're being sold (I think) and they rarely buy full metro signals.

Other option is somebody could buy the WBAW move in and 103.9 and start a nice cluster in the area

Calling Apex?

I'd love to see Thoroughbred make a run at it, as they target Tybee quite often on 105.3.

Ahh, if only I had money :D

Don't be absolutely certain that any or all of these stations will ultimately be sold by Cumulus. Remember, Cumulus is going through a "sale", or in this case, a "privatization" into a partnership with Merril Lynch and the Dickey family as the priciples. Moving these stations into the Stratus Trust is mostly a legal maneuver to satisfy ownership rules for the FCC in getting the merger approved.

Clear Channel did the same thing to a lot of their stations, which were totally separate from their "departing markets". There were two here in Macon, and a couple in Columbus, and other markets that they placed into the "Aloha Trust" for the same reasons.

Once the merger picture is a little clearer, you may just find that things return to status-quo with all of these stations.

That's a great idea, G. Someone get Jerry Rogers on the phone.

i used to work for 98.3 in toledo and they are selling it...so take it for what its worth i guess...trust? funny they use that word

Also, Cumulus just invested a ton of $$ into re-building the stick for 103.9.

Why not dump 900am instead?

I concur. Though since they just relaunched 900AM as Sports, WSSS-AM 900 The Ticket, they're probably trying to take away WFXH-AM's audience (when said audience can hear it), thus the reason why they don't feel compelled to dump WSSS just yet.

Is there a max of 4 FM's that a single cluster can have? You've got WJCL, WIXV, WEAS, WZAT, and WTYB... I don't know a whole lot about how all of these rules work and why they're suddenly being enforced so I could easily be off base.

They were grandfathered in with those stations. The ownership rules have been modified and if Cumulus goes private; they will have to adhere to the current set of rules. Therefore; they will have to part with one FM. Same thing that was mentioned about CC putting stations in the Aloha Trust as they are going private.

...And to me (at least) WTYB seems to be the right station to throw.

Even though it has decent ratings, it's the youngest format in their FM cluster, it's signal is not that powerful (compared to the other FM's), and I would bet it bills about the same as a lower rated station like Z-102.

Another possibility is that when (or if) WTYB gets sold, they might move Magic to the 102.1 stick and jettison Z-102.

YES

Okay, we've all surmised.

Let's all put on our thinking caps and start with the educated guesses - who's the likely buyer of WTYB and would they retain the station's format or flip it?
