Magic 981 n 720

Its been awhile since I put my two cents into anything here. I was the one wanting peace and equality, and to actually learn something instead of watching people complain. I have decided to cross that fence for today only.

I am an old employee of Clear Channel Lagrange, and have recieved some pretty pathetic news from some friends from that market today. After reading some past posts, I would like to reopen the subject, because I know due to job security issues, the employees of the Lagrange market refuse to tell it like it is. Heres what I have gathered so far... I call this "What in the heck are you thinking"

1st. You take a station, 720 the Voice WVCC, which prides itself in being all live and local, and make it all automated. Not only that, but you disrespect the listeners enough to not even make them aware that their station is going to the dogs. If I'm not mistaken, the ratings of WVCC were climbing fairly steadily since spring of '04. Keeping it Real, the backbone of that station moves to Magic?! 85 South dissapears? And Kurt Snider goes bye bye all together? How crazy can you get?

Lets talk about Kurt first. This man made a show that didn't make it a point to constantly bash on anyone or anything. The man focused on the positive points in everything. He was able to sell his show to people that refused to even speak with most sales reps. Kurt Snider, you always have been and always will be "Off the Chain" and I pray that another station will realize what a talent you are, and you will one day be able to stick it to Clear Channel, and their "managers."

Uncle Rich and Benji are now on Magic in the mornings? First off yes, Benji belongs on Magic, and Uncle Rich would too with his knowledge and vocals if he would realize that he isn't everything he makes himself out to be. Magic was one of the few that took pride in NOT having a morning talk show, and still focused on music. As a listener before an employee, I can tell you now, I didn't want to hear about Uncle Rich's gas in the mornings, I wanted to hear Blue Oyster Cult, Foghat, and all the classics.

Chris East now runs the afternoons? The mans passion is Classic Country, why use him on Magic? He would fit in better on WCOH. That was his baby anyways if I remember correctly. Sean Cleaves wanted to be on Magic, is he still stuck on WCOH? One of the biggest points of a successful business is keeping your employees happy. So heres an idea, lets make them all do something they can't stand, see how that benifits us.

Kudos on getting rid of Drew. He was boring anyways.

RL at night? Come on guys, no offense, but he's scared to death of a microphone. I love the man to death, and he belongs in the producers chair.

Why didn't you consider putting Sean and Heather together on magic in the mornings? That would have been family friendly. Leave Uncle Rich and Benji where they were already great. Cut out 85 South so that Chris could do mornings on WCOH, and left Kurt alone. OHHHH WAIT!!! perhaps Columbus is frustrated with themselves due to the fact that Rock 103's ratings have pretty much leveled out over the past two years, its obviously going nowhere, so lets destroy another good thing.

I stuck up for Clear Channel for way to long. Welcome to slavery Lagrange (also known as Coorp. America). When are we going to once again focus on what the listener likes, be satisfied with the fact that the stations are making cash, and do the right thing? Out of love for the employees I hope this all works out for the best. Out of hate for Clear Channel, I hope both markets go bankrupt. I mean come on... what were you thinking, lets put a manager in place that lives nearly 2 hours away, and already has his own station that isn't worth a junk anyways.

True enough, I had my beef with Joe Pedicino. I enjoyed working with him about as much as I enjoy a migraine, but the man KNEW that the Voice was going places, so he put his emphasis on that station. Magic was his baby, but he knew what he was doing. Joe had vision of turning a small station into a big deal. Maybe I was wrong about the man. Maybe Clear Channel allowed him to walk away because he wasn't focused on who can I destroy to make the people in San Antonio happy.

Now one of the only Live and Local stations left in that area, has evaporated, and we are stuck listening to a morning TALK show on a morning Music station. What were you thinking. I can't wait to see how the raiting plummet. And I look forward to using those as toilet paper. Psst... expect a land mail from me soon.

I have tried my best to be as polite as possible, if I have offended anyone, oh well. Send all complaints to clearchannel.com. I do hope, however, that one day The Kurt Snider show can shove his ratings up your nose and say "These could have been yours", because that man is pure talent.

That's just how Clear Channel operates. Most of the people who work there pretend they're live and local, yet they bring in someone from out of town either to voice-track that so-called "local" programming, or run everything off a satellite feed, at least most of the time. It's no wonder why CC is sometimes referred to as "Cheap Channel".

Fortunately, you woke up just long enough to realize that CC has been pulling the wool over your eyes, thinking it's such a great company to work for. It's not.

Not unless you count WTRP, or the Eagle's Nest that includes WLAG, WELR, etc. Still, it's all satellite feed, all the time, after the morning show on WTRP, unless things have changed since last year.

And there was no moon landing. Give it a rest, already.
Whether it's true or not, you guys give the impression that
neither of you could cut it in a CC small market.
And using 'cheap channel' is always hilarious. Wow.<P ID="signature">______________

After working in CC small market, and seeing how they "operate" I would rather lick the bottoms of a garbage mans shoes. I thank God everyday for the opportunity I have now, and the station I have now. Needless to say the station I am at now isn't owned by any of the coorpiration dominators. Obviously you ARE a Clear Channel pawn. Question... are they paying you to attempt to defend their honor? Chivalry is dead sugar, get over it.

You just cleared up all my assumptions.
CC doesn't need me to defend them.
And if you think I could get a dime from CC to do so,
you really are out of touch.
Oh, and...don't call me Shirley...uhhh...sugar.

You are so right simplydj!
I'm wonderin the same thing. What the heck is that place thinking? I know so MANY people upset about this. I want to start a petition. It sounds like they just don't care about what their listeners want. What ever happened to the customer being right? I'm the customer. I listen. I care. They never asked me what I thought! They just made another wreckless change! You want to talk about skill. For a woman in todays radio world to carry a show for as long as Heather has by herself. Come on. And now she is where? in the afternoon. That's such a slap in her face! I can't believe they would do that to her. Not to mention the fact that I'm so sick of hearing Uncle Rich already that as soon as I hear his voice I cringe. I tune into Magic for a soothing voice like Heathers. Not some harsh talk show junk. What the mess are they thinking?
Benji needs to be back at the other time and put Heather with that fellow from the other station. They actually sounded awesome together when I heard him on there about a month ago with her. They sounded better than most of the big markets out there. I got real excited thinking that was the new show. I can't believe they didn't recognize how incredible that would have sounded. He and Heather were so much fun. My friends at work were talkin about it. It stinks to think they have put Heather in another time slot just to let those two guys screw up the whole sound of that station. They've got to be losing listeners by the day.
It doesn't sound like the GM knows what he is doing. I'm sure there has to be a persons ear we can get a hold of at the Corporate level! There are at least 23 of my friends ready to roll on this. Not to mention all their wives and their friends. We depend on the traffic updates. It is imperative that me and my co-workers make it in on time. I do like the music, but I'm making a change because I feel that they made a terrible mistake.
I apologize if this comes off really harsh. I'm usually pretty patient, but enough is enough!

First off DJ, you WOULD NOT have been able to use CC Lagrange/Newnan as a launching pad...if Josh had not left the stations. With him leaving the stations, it granted you the opportunity to work there...keep that in mind. Josh could have followed in Chris' and Rich's footsteps by starting out on the Trading Post and going on to great things. But for what ever reason...he left or got fired. Romer..Pedicino was a good business man but his main flaw..as it seems from reading posts about him and hearing things about him through people who have worked for.with him...he did run of a few good people because of bad decisions, taking back promises, not paying them money or just not liking the person.

This is very very true. I wouldn't have gotten a start had Josh not of left. I don't remember ever mentioning Josh's leaving. I can't help but to wonder what in the world this post is supposed to mean. How or why I got MY start isn't in question.

The reason I originally posted in the first place, as Mr. Braswell himself can tell you was because of how upset I was over what was happening to the place that I had my start. I honostly can compare it to watching your childhood home burning down. Had it not of been for Chris East, Jackie Steele, and Brad (sales) I would probably still be cutting trees down for a living and dj'ing in local bars. None the less, I had my start in an amazing career, and have done fairly dog gone well for myself I must say.

Now while you are harping on how I got my start, why don't you explain to Kurt Snider how in the world is he going to continue caring for his family now that due to full time cutbacks, not only did Clear Channel take away his job, but his dreams. We have wondered for quite some time who you are Mr. Creole, but I am quite sure you either currently or previously are a member of the Lagrange family.

Yes Joe was one heck of a business man. The only reliable thing you had when it came to Joe, was that every single day something new would happen. I thank God for Joe Pedicino just because he gave a simpledj like myself the opportunity to learn a little bit about how radio works. I can say I miss the relationship I had with the listeners of both the Trading Post and the Kurt Snider Show.

I suppose there really isn't anymore I can say other than kingcreole, what was your point?

well if you'd like to journey back to 2002 ...

http://web.archive.org/web/20020114181527/http://www.magic981.com/jocks.html

"Are you a late night owl? If so, have we got someone for you! Zach is now staying up all night, and things can get a little strange! Your favorite music plus overnight fun... Zach's got it...right here on Magic 98.1!"

WOW ... I want to know ... did things really get a little 'strange' in the overnights with Zach? What's 'overnight fun'? Neat, any station can play my 'favorite music' but Zach was 'staying up all night' ... so things could 'get a little strange'. And besides my 'favorite music', Magic's 98.1's Zach featured 'overnight fun'! Even if you were not working 3rd shift, it sounds like you would want to be a 'late night owl' and stay up all night listening to Zach on Magic 98.1! Fun! While I never heard Zach, I'm sure some listener in radio land might have wanted to aircheck his show every night, and then spend the days scoping the airchecks and cataloging and re-cataloging all the breaks. Then years later in 2006 that someone could have made Zach's great airchecks available on the web for all to hear and reminisce when we could kick back by the radio and enjoy 'overnight fun' on Magic 98.1!

Why doesn't Star 94 comb West Georgia searching for this kid and give him overnights!?

Its funny... In the beginning no one wanted to discuss how the destruction of the stations all got started...Everyone wanted to take a "wait and see" position on whether things would be better after Joe was gone.
But, now that people are leaving and jobs are vanishing… employees are now singing like canaries on their way out the door about what REALLY happened to Joe, and the hand full of people who got him fired, and why...

> Why don't you explain to Kurt Snider how in the world is he going to

Unfortunately, Kurt was sold a false bill of goods at a secret meeting a few employees had at the business managers house playing billiards one evening. He was told that things would be better when Joe left, and Kurt bought it. Kurt wasn't the only person told this however. Some who had been recently warned by Joe to "straighten up" were lied to by the business manager, who told them she had a copy of a secret list Joe had made... She went around the room and told everyone the secret date they were to be terminated if they did not stop Joe first. Needless to say what happened next... This meeting fueled by drama and paranoia set into motion the plan and stories used to get Joe fired...

This isn't rumor... or fiction... IT'S FACT. I can provide a list of everyone who was at her home if you would like to verify...

One side of me understands why they all went along with the lies, after all, if I thought I was about to loose my job, I would swear Joe had stolen the Lindberg baby and that I had seen it with my own eyes to keep my job!

> I thank God for Joe Pedicino just because he gave a simpledj like myself the opportunity to learn a little bit about how radio works.

DJ you are not alone... Joe gave many their first chance at radio, and a second chance if they screwed it up. Joe truly cared about men like Kurt Snyder and wanted what was best for the stations as well as a way for men to feed thier families. The sad thing is that Joe was trying to buy the stations to keep CC from making all the cutbacks that they are now making.
The new GM, Jim Martin, recently said in a meeting "The heart left when Joe left, the stations will now be run like a business"
Everyone see's what this means... In order to be profitable, more jobs will be disolved, and the emphasis on LOCAL RADIO will go bye bye. They have already automated 720 with syndicated programming and Magic 98 will be next. All bets are that they will sell WCOH.
In short, if it hurts you to see all this... Imagine being one of the employees who is about to loose a job because of what a hand full of people did in an underhanded sneaky effort to "Make things better" by removing Joe.

OJ's Bronco..if your claims are true..post the list. I am skeptical that you really have a list. If it is true a few people did do the underhand thing of geting Joe fired..I don;t blame them. If a few thought Joe was getting out of hand about wanting to get rid of the "straghten-up" people, I don;t blame the crew whp got together to hatch the plan to get him out before jobs were lost. Cut Joe's throat before he could cut the crew's collective throat, which is understandable. You have got to look out for Number One-yourself. Everyone thought that with Joe gone...things would be better with a new GM, who would come in and not change things and improve the stations even more. Again...that line of thought is understandable. Paranoia about loosing a job would have lead me to join the plan to get Joe out of power. The only people who know the truth if Joe was really going to fire people...is Joe and God. Nobody knows for sure if he would have acted on the intentions of his list. Joe did have a heart and wanted to give people chances to learn.
Unfortuantly, the plan had a dark side for the crew...a more cut throat management team did come in and fire people...an action they were trying to avoid. The people with seniority kept thier jobs and those with less, like Kurt and Drew, got the axe. It's an unfortunate thing, like your house buring down and the stations in newnan are burning. Joe needed the stations and the stations, looking back, needed Joe. If WCOH is sold...I hope chris joins the staff. Local Radio left when joe got fired.

As to my point DJ-you would not have been able to get your start if Josh would not have gave up his position. That is all I am getting at. if there were no positions avaible when you got started meant that Brad, Chris and Jackie could not have gotten you on the air to fill a position. I know you'd rather be in a studio than cutting trees this January. Be glad there was a position for the gang to bring you in so as you put it..learn the profession. No, I am not a former or present employee but have been to several remotes and the whole staff is a major part of the community. Joe and ths stations were always out and about. I hope things work out.

> In order to be profitable ...

Hmm ... so it that a statement that the stations weren't profitable previously?

For the record: That's contrary to the vague impression I had from a distance, so I'm asking an honest question here, not making some sort of cryptic comment or anything.

I was under the general impression that part of the pro-Pedicino argument was that he was able to be profitable AND be local.

Actually, yes. Pedcino was profitable at being local!! No two ways about it...profitable at being local. Like him or hate him...he was profitable and being LOCAL! LOCAL talent, LOCAL guests, LOCAL busniess.
