Its been awhile since I put my two cents into anything here. I was the one wanting peace and equality, and to actually learn something instead of watching people complain. I have decided to cross that fence for today only.
I am an old employee of Clear Channel Lagrange, and have recieved some pretty pathetic news from some friends from that market today. After reading some past posts, I would like to reopen the subject, because I know due to job security issues, the employees of the Lagrange market refuse to tell it like it is. Heres what I have gathered so far... I call this "What in the heck are you thinking"
1st. You take a station, 720 the Voice WVCC, which prides itself in being all live and local, and make it all automated. Not only that, but you disrespect the listeners enough to not even make them aware that their station is going to the dogs. If I'm not mistaken, the ratings of WVCC were climbing fairly steadily since spring of '04. Keeping it Real, the backbone of that station moves to Magic?! 85 South dissapears? And Kurt Snider goes bye bye all together? How crazy can you get?
Lets talk about Kurt first. This man made a show that didn't make it a point to constantly bash on anyone or anything. The man focused on the positive points in everything. He was able to sell his show to people that refused to even speak with most sales reps. Kurt Snider, you always have been and always will be "Off the Chain" and I pray that another station will realize what a talent you are, and you will one day be able to stick it to Clear Channel, and their "managers."
Uncle Rich and Benji are now on Magic in the mornings? First off yes, Benji belongs on Magic, and Uncle Rich would too with his knowledge and vocals if he would realize that he isn't everything he makes himself out to be. Magic was one of the few that took pride in NOT having a morning talk show, and still focused on music. As a listener before an employee, I can tell you now, I didn't want to hear about Uncle Rich's gas in the mornings, I wanted to hear Blue Oyster Cult, Foghat, and all the classics.
Chris East now runs the afternoons? The mans passion is Classic Country, why use him on Magic? He would fit in better on WCOH. That was his baby anyways if I remember correctly. Sean Cleaves wanted to be on Magic, is he still stuck on WCOH? One of the biggest points of a successful business is keeping your employees happy. So heres an idea, lets make them all do something they can't stand, see how that benifits us.
Kudos on getting rid of Drew. He was boring anyways.
RL at night? Come on guys, no offense, but he's scared to death of a microphone. I love the man to death, and he belongs in the producers chair.
Why didn't you consider putting Sean and Heather together on magic in the mornings? That would have been family friendly. Leave Uncle Rich and Benji where they were already great. Cut out 85 South so that Chris could do mornings on WCOH, and left Kurt alone. OHHHH WAIT!!! perhaps Columbus is frustrated with themselves due to the fact that Rock 103's ratings have pretty much leveled out over the past two years, its obviously going nowhere, so lets destroy another good thing.
I stuck up for Clear Channel for way to long. Welcome to slavery Lagrange (also known as Coorp. America). When are we going to once again focus on what the listener likes, be satisfied with the fact that the stations are making cash, and do the right thing? Out of love for the employees I hope this all works out for the best. Out of hate for Clear Channel, I hope both markets go bankrupt. I mean come on... what were you thinking, lets put a manager in place that lives nearly 2 hours away, and already has his own station that isn't worth a junk anyways.
True enough, I had my beef with Joe Pedicino. I enjoyed working with him about as much as I enjoy a migraine, but the man KNEW that the Voice was going places, so he put his emphasis on that station. Magic was his baby, but he knew what he was doing. Joe had vision of turning a small station into a big deal. Maybe I was wrong about the man. Maybe Clear Channel allowed him to walk away because he wasn't focused on who can I destroy to make the people in San Antonio happy.
Now one of the only Live and Local stations left in that area, has evaporated, and we are stuck listening to a morning TALK show on a morning Music station. What were you thinking. I can't wait to see how the raiting plummet. And I look forward to using those as toilet paper. Psst... expect a land mail from me soon.
I have tried my best to be as polite as possible, if I have offended anyone, oh well. Send all complaints to clearchannel.com. I do hope, however, that one day The Kurt Snider show can shove his ratings up your nose and say "These could have been yours", because that man is pure talent.
simplydj over and out.
