magic 989 now jack fm and joy 106.3 now magic 106.3

From mymagiccolumbus.com "Hey we’ve moved! Set your dial to 106.3. Where you can still hear your favorite R&B and Classic Soul!"

Listen to the new 98.9 Jack FM at mycolumbusjack.com.

From Radio-Info...Radio One transfers its urban AC "Magic" WXMG from 98.9 to 106.3. Magic therefore replaces the gospel "Joy" format of WYJD on 106.3. Market Manager Eddie Harrell, Jr. says the whole "Magic" package will move to 106.3, including the Tom Joyner Morning Show. The new station at 98.9 is a new "Playing what we want" adult hits "Jack FM."

OMG. When it rains it pours. ;D This one sure came out of left field! Don't even know what to say yet, except that so far (big qualifier there) it sounds like a rock-leaning version, though not entirely. Wonder if Saga is involved somehow?

98.9 is definitely playing more classic rock than anything else.

The first half hour (12-12:30 PM) sounded like this:
David Bowie - Changes
R.E.M. - Losing My Religion
Queen - We Will Rock You
Queen - We Are The Champions
U2 - Beautiful Day
Aerosmith - Crazy

They have played a few songs that are really far away from Classic Rock so far:
Young MC - Bust A Move
Outkast - Hey Ya!
Coldplay - Clocks

At the top of the hour they during the ID, they said "broadcasting live from a dumpy little building in Italian Village". Hahah

Did you hear the one about "how d'yall expect me to get my work done?" Fun.

The first, "Changes," was at about noon. Appropriate tune.

I wonder if WVKO-AM 1580 will switch back to gospel music programing because of the loss of My Columbus Joy in Columbus?
Remember WVKO-AM will be without an LMA once St. Gabriel Catholic radio purchases 820 AM and terminates it's broadcasting on 1580.

Joy 106.3 has this to say on it's website:

Joy 106.3 Has Closed Its Doors

Thank you for choosing us to be your inspiration station! We have closed the doors at My Columbus Joy. You can still listen to your favorite inspirational morning show the Yolanda Adams Morning Show at any time and stay up to date on the best inspirational news by logging on right here at mycolumbusjoy.com!

LOL, this flip really caught us off guard. Very interesting.

Actually what is Radio-One thinking? Magic 98.9 was doing very good in the ratings and 106.3 has a horrible signal. I'm actually surprised by this.

I'm just shocked ::) ::) that Radio One pulled this move. The 106.3 signal is sketchy at best on my side of town (southeast side of Columbus). I got to ask what is Radio One is thinking?

Pretty gutsy move flipping the #5 station (6+ AQH share). Trend last three months has been 4.9 -> 5.7 -> 6.4, with that latest being a tie with WSNY. Gutsy is good. 98.9 is a hugely superior signal to 106.3, and one of the handful of really robust Class A signals here that don't suffer the "downtown interference curse."

What about when My Columbus Joy was on 106.3 all those years? Why it survived that many years on 106.3 is the same logic
why Magic 89.9 switched over to 106.3. Doesn't make a lot of sense to move Magic over to 106.3.

Only a handful of people would know what they're talking about (namely, the early days of TED-FM), but I'd like to hear some smart-ass comment about not being able to locate their Bette Midler records.
