Not the normal industry wide protocol when a radio station moves to a different frequency.
Here is the 106.3 coverage map... Like tOMW says, this is for entertainment purposes only:

Columbus has lost both its Magic and Joy in one day? I can only do 107.5 for about 1 hour then I am done. Radio One does know its listeners very well. It was bad enough that I could not get gospel inspiration during the day due to bad reception but now I can't get classic soul either.....bad move!

Looks like April needs to go back to school. Great to see that my hard earned tax dollars are allowing someone to embarrass themselves on Facebook. Ugh. Why do I even work?
Nu_Roo_2 said:Allstar, you're judging based on ONE WEEK? And using Facebook followers of established stations for a benchmark? Who needs Arbitron? They haven't even been promoting the FB page on-air (unless very recently -- I've been out of town and haven't been streaming the station). It's sure not front-and-center on their website yet. And even if it was, what proportion of a new station's listeners (let alone established) make a beeline for the website?
More importantly, as dawg pointed out with the comparison to the Blitz/Rock flip, this is a format that requires an almost complete cume turnover for 98.9. That slows things down. And they haven't even started promoting yet. You've got to get people who don't have 98.9 on their presets to sample it.
While it might take a little longer than usual to get ratings traction under these circumstances (especially since PPM doesn't allow a three-month build before the first report card), I think they'll do great IF they execute well and really work to get the word out. The Adult Hits stations that just "slap it on and hope it sticks" often fail to take hold, or peter out quickly if they do. Hopefully they're got aggressive plans here. I still smell new ownership (which might further slow things down if they're waiting for the new folks to really ramp up advertising, etc -- and too much delay there could be bad for momentum). But even if Radio One has no intention of selling or LMA'ing, I don't think they'd banish an established station with good ratings to London without plans to give Jack strong support.

I know I was going to get that reaction but I'm just looking at this like this isn't going to go well for 98.9. The Problem is they have executed this in the worst way possible. They really need to promote the station more then they are with a strong campaign and stand behind it, but they are getting some epic blowback and bad will from this move because they didn't. Perception is everything.
The Arbitron isn't going to look good for Jack-FM and I just got that feeling about it, NuRoo
allstar2003 said:It been about a week today after the move and the reaction has still strongly negative to this and People are STILL hot about this.
with how its looking Jack might be dead before year is done! I'll call that one right now that by January 2012 - Radio One will be forced to back track on this as there is NO buzz about Jack and if there has been any buzz it has been STRONGLY negative to what happened to 98.9.
allstar2003 said:If they sell the 98.9 signal it would be dumb move for them as they are just shooting them self in the foot.
allstar2003 said:If I was them I would pray to god that Clear Channel don't try to steal there audience by flipping 105.7 to Urban AC. I wouldn't put it pass them if there is money to be made.
allstar2003 said:This has passed Blitz/Rock levels of heat from the listeners. It's ugly.
allstar2003 said:I'll leave with this interesting fact about the radio one signal switch and its Facebook pages.
> Power 107.5 has 12,581 followers
> Magic 106.3 has 5,376 followers
> 98.9 Jack-FM has has 37 followers
If you are Radio One you should be freaking worried about that for one reason. If the listener don't like the station - they aren't sticking around to listen to what they have to say. I'm just saying
allstar2003 said:Eric, I freaking love your logic on that. ;D
A lot of excellent points made there.
From what I remember and what I have read on this board in the past Power was best when leaning rhythmic. yeah,It does make the hip hop heads mad but Power had some punch in the market when it mixed in some rhythmic songs or better known as "What is this song doing on Power?" ;D.
One thing I did notice that on Magic page was a lot of the disgruntled listeners on Magic's page - 30 and older.
You are right about Radio One has tried to sell 106.3 for years, but in this market to sell a station is rough to say the least.
Again great points made.

Power sounded great as a rhythmic CHR and was #1 in the city.
