Majic 102.9 No More!

Majic 102.9 is now "102.9 Kool Fm". "Lake Laniers Greatest hits."
I only had 20 minutes to listen......very similar if not the same format. Maybe just a Name change.
What do you think?

Sounds like a throwback to Cool 105.7 and Lake 102...

Now if they would get rid of that translator on 102.9 I could listen to it again...it comes in fine when I am north of Peachtree Ridge but not when I am south of it...

Within Atlanta and East of town, Radio One won't be getting rid of 102.9 anytime soon. Besides, Radio One has the MAJIC name on 107.5/97.5

with the signal that WHTA has in the greater Atlanta area, I dont understand why Hot 107.9 needs a translator. It looks loike the folks at Jacobs media need to contact Bromo in St Simons Island for an engineering study to go to c C2

It's a Jacob's Media station, in whatever official name/form that is today.

Jones Andrews is a great guy... worked with him at the old, legendary FOX.

I was at Jacob's prior (WWID), and it was a 1st class operation at the time.

That said, to me it seems he's making the best of a budget cutting situation.

All jocks are gone outside of morning drive (a female co-host has been added), and popular syndicated shows like The 70's w/ Steve Goddard, etc. are toast.

They have "rebranded", and the music is more 80's based.

Randy Reeves sweepers (another local guy who I personally think highly of).

It isn't a major departure from what they were doing and should play just as well to the audience.

But Jay- that logo looks like crap, brother, and Benson & Hedges will issue a cease and desist if they catch wind of it (and why would you go that way image wise, anyway).

Nope, that would make it another Oldies station. The music mix is still pretty much the same, to my ears.

And for it to be a throwback to Lake, they'd need reverb on the mics... ;D

oh i really like this station! i'm streaming it now, and it plays a good variety, 'rocket man' elton john, 'burnin love' by elvis, 'when will i see you again' three degrees. i like it that they're not afraid to go deep 70s, which i love. fred does that during his afternoon show, playing heavy on the 70s on truOldies 106-7

i had this idea (while the sun was baking my brain) the other day about what radio one could do with the 102.9 freq. tell me if i'm half-baked here, but i think they should offer it up to WAOK as an FM signal lease. i mean, don't the two stations have an agreement with the rev. al sharpton show? do something there to bring bonified black-talk to a half-good signal, charge 'AOK per month for the usage. could this happen legally? would this be possible?

Can you LMA a translator? I assume that you're talking about the 102.9 translator, not WMJE.

Who we REALLY need back on the air is Ralph from Ben Hill.

Is V-103 putting WAOK on an HD-2 signal already?

I think V103 HD2 is old school

No, it's neo-soul and R&B hits.

Last time I checked WAOK 1380 was also on V-103 HD3.

As far as the 102.9 translator is concerned, it needs to be shutdown. Where I live it causes interference to both 102.9 in Gainesville and 102.9 Rock 103 in Columbus, GA.

Did any of the on air staff get axed?

I'd like to know how you manage to pick them both up at the same time ;)

On days when the DXing was good, before that stinkin' translator, I could pick up 100k Rock 103 instead of Majic 102.9.

I don't know how close to Atlanta Rock 103 and WMJE get their signals protected, but both of them had perfectly listenable signals on opposing sides of the metro.

Can a regular citizen send a complaint to the FCC about this and expect to get any traction from it?

You can pick up two FM signals from the same location if you can orient the antenna to null out the other signal or move the antenna to benefit from multipath. Unlike AM, you won't hear two FMs on top of one another due to the capture effect.

Boy, look at the new logo - the very hideous lime-Jell-O green logo:

See, station owners, this is what happens when you don't hire a professional design agency to create your logo and brand and opt to have it done by your receptionist who knows MS Word really, really, really good.

GAG.
