What about Magic? They used to be right around the top of the market (but the diary system didn't publish WPOZ's numbers). The only thing I don't see is CC abandoning the only mainstream AC in the market. Would they go classic hits with Sunny and MMO already there?
The FLF-to-FM scenario also makes a lot of sense, given DBO's FM performance.
Better yet, look at the numbers the new WLOQ is generating on a translator. Maybe they blow up 104.1, move smooth jazz to a big stick, and save all those talk show salaries.
CC is also doing well with straight-up Urban in Tampa on 95.7 The Beat. However, 102 Jamz' performance would suggest that the Urban/CHR field is already overcrowded.
As far as WYGM goes, they have never recovered from the flip to Spanish. Orlando's an awful sports-talk market because you only have the Magic and UCF locally, and there hasn't been a really good local host in the market since Christopher Russo. If they wanted to make a run at it, they should hire Todd Wright away from Sporting News Radio and give him PM drive. Sports doesn't need much in the way of ratings to make money, but when you compare this product to WDAE down the road, this is an afterthought at best. But what would they do? The only things I can think of would be a lineup of liberal talk shows like Ed Schultz and Randi Rhodes, or a brokered scenario like 1250 WHNZ.
Personally I'd love to buy a signal like WRLZ on 1270 and put a really good sports station on.
