Major CC flip in Orlando

I think there should be a rule against writing a 3 word thread. Or using a headline that's only speculation without putting a question mark after it.

If this is important enough why don't you tell us what you're thinking or talking about?

I would of thought CBS's 102 Jamz would be the one to flip, since I see it rated under WMFE in ratings this time around.
As much as I don't want it happening, my edumucated guess would be WFLF-AM might replace Real Radio & be simulcast on 104.1 in light of the success WDBO has now on 96.5.
The new KQ103.1 doesn't look like it's really kicking Rumba 100.3's culo just yet.
And I don't think they will take 101.1 JRR, the only Rock station here, away from us, unless they bring "Channel X" from HD2 & put it on the main FM.
I highly doubt one would hype up a "major" flip on the AM band.

What I would really like to hear is a Rhythmic AC.
But that's just me.

From looking at the latest ratings, the only station that I could see that was really underperforming is WYGM. They have been doing just less then WHOO and 740 has the better signal. Then again cheap channel should never have flipped them to Spanish a few years back, that's what did them in. http://www.radio-info.com/markets/orlando

Could be any of their stations other than XL and RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRuUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUmmmmBBAAAAAAAA.........

Rumba has been losing to KQ of late...

What about Magic? They used to be right around the top of the market (but the diary system didn't publish WPOZ's numbers). The only thing I don't see is CC abandoning the only mainstream AC in the market. Would they go classic hits with Sunny and MMO already there?

The FLF-to-FM scenario also makes a lot of sense, given DBO's FM performance.

Better yet, look at the numbers the new WLOQ is generating on a translator. Maybe they blow up 104.1, move smooth jazz to a big stick, and save all those talk show salaries.

CC is also doing well with straight-up Urban in Tampa on 95.7 The Beat. However, 102 Jamz' performance would suggest that the Urban/CHR field is already overcrowded.

As far as WYGM goes, they have never recovered from the flip to Spanish. Orlando's an awful sports-talk market because you only have the Magic and UCF locally, and there hasn't been a really good local host in the market since Christopher Russo. If they wanted to make a run at it, they should hire Todd Wright away from Sporting News Radio and give him PM drive. Sports doesn't need much in the way of ratings to make money, but when you compare this product to WDAE down the road, this is an afterthought at best. But what would they do? The only things I can think of would be a lineup of liberal talk shows like Ed Schultz and Randi Rhodes, or a brokered scenario like 1250 WHNZ.

Personally I'd love to buy a signal like WRLZ on 1270 and put a really good sports station on.

I've said for a long time it's the combination of 540 and 104.1. As usual, CC Orlando is behind in making that change (if indeed that's what it is). If they had any balls, they would have not only beat WDBO to the FM side but would have have probably been winning that battle now. Go ahead and say that WTKS is politically left and WFLA is to the right and can't be combined. ...It doesn't matter. When you're talking salaries and the amount of money it costs to operate WTKS with it's current lineup, it's simply bound to happen.

Cut the fat.... leaving the Monsters in the AM and Phillips without all the clowns in the afternoon. Have Jim get back to doing REAL radio like he was doing in the early 90's. Local issues, local talk. Fill in the midday with Rush and nights with one of the other available talkers from 540. Keep the classic rock for overnights and weekends since HTQ is gone. Simulcast on 540 for a bit then break it away for either another format, broker it, or sell it for some serious cash. I'm pretty sure that signal would sell for some serious money. Same goes for 740.

Messing with any of the other stations in that group is just silly and a waste. WJRR owns the rock market, WMGF is a jukebox with low overhead, Rumba has it's niche (different from KQ), and XL is the top rated CHR. It's a business and the current model is to cut costs. WTKS has got a big fat budget and from what I can see a big ole target on it's back.

I wonder with WDBO's long term plans are for AM 580?

Cox's long term plans for 580 probably involve selling it, they own very few AM properties in general.

Salem would probably love to trade up from the very limited 660.

My bet is on 102 JAMZ flipping to HOT 101.9. The music has already been tweaked and with just a little bit more it will be a clone to Tampa's HOT 101.5.

Not a CC station but...

From yesterday's Making Moves column...

"Moving from Tampa to Orlando will be Melony Torres, who is leaving rhythmic WSJT-FM "Play" (98.7) for CBS Radio sister-station, urban WJHM-FM (101.9). She'll be MD/midday host"

Melony went to UCF and that's a CBS to CBS property. Good move for her as Play 98.7 probably isn't in it for the long haul. 102 Jamz isn't going anywhere.

Considering that CC is giving most of their air staff the week before Christmas "off", is there potential that for some it will be a permanent "holiday".

I forgot to mention 102 JAMZ TOTH ID is now your favorite music from your favorite artists....while it's not CC I'm still saying it's them ;D
