Major Format Change!

I noticed yesterday afternoon that "Hard 13" on 1660 AM has now been totally replaced by some smooth talking "voice tracked" female. Corporate takeover? LMA?

You're right. The experiment is over, at least on 13.

See? Here's the problem. If you claim to be "hard," you gotta deliver. And, 13 just wasn't hard enough.

Fortunately, there are one or two hard AMs left in town. #10/#1 near Graceland is still "hard," but you gotta think it will soon end.

Clear Channel! I am blaming Clear Channel! As I have learned from watching this board, CCU is responsible for all ills impacting the industry.

I used to think it was flouride in our water, but I'm convinced it's Clear Channel.

Now that Dan Barron is the head man at Entercom, all my chips are in for a change in that building.

It's gonna be all traffic reports, all the time. You heard it here first.

'MAJOR" format change? ???

On something called "Hard 16" at 1660 AM? AM? MAJOR Format Change?

Really? ???

Seriously? ???

Major? ???

Hmmm.............. :-\

Allrighty, Then.

I look at it like this... excluding some regional anomalies, there is 100% content change on the station, and they blew out the entire staff. Remember, there are no small parts, only small actors!

> what format was Hard [13]?

Dude. It was hard. Really hard. But sadly, not hard enough.

On the plus side, though, they were commercial free. And, as I am sure Rob would agree, they were really good at telling you who they were.

I'd be all for that...

It was a metal format? And I didnt even know about it ..

the other stations need to watch out.. no where else on the dial can you hear as many as 3 stations at once in Memphis.. it's revolutionary

Rob, I can't get all of the HARD network stations up here. Keep us posted on if any of the others change.

Dang, and I thought it was going to work. It was a great format for those on the go.

Perhaps that's becasue it was pot metal.

DE:

Whereas "Hard" had at least some "test and feature" material, the new station is ALL ABOUT POSITIONING!

they are really aggressively going after this new format.

I've heard they will have billboards complete with blinking lights all over town soon.

Yeah, those cool yellow ones with the wheels and a trailer hitch and a box of black letters and numbers so you can change your format in mere minutes!

It's catching on. I drove in from Knoxville tonight. Same format all the way down I-40.

But I did happen to catch a HARD station just outside of Cookeville.
