Major LA Radio Station Flipping Format???

DeuxX said:
Fox News Radio? Wouldn't be much of a flip.

That could be quite possible now that I think of it, especially given who is set to do the announcement on Wednesday.

Then again, are there any Fox News radio stations, sans the satellite station?

Oops, I hit the post button a little too soon.

I am in the camp of believing KABC will be the "major L.A. radio station flipping format." Also, does anybody remember the countdown Don Barrett has on his site when Jack Silver said "in 90 days changes are coming to KABC?"

As for KFI-FM, that is coming, but I doubt it will be Wednesday. Also I have a feeling KFI would have quite of few promos concerning the switch and maybe even a listener party on the day of the switch; I don't think KFI would do such a major switch quietly.

I don't see KTWV changing anytime soon; as others have pointed out The Wave is slowing, but surely picking up where KOST left off and it shows in the ratings.

The other station that seems to be under "format watch" is KKGO. As pointed out in the the KKGO thread, Saul, despite his impulse to spin the format wheel on a moment's notice, wants to try to make the country format work, hence the consultants coming in. Whether Saul is buying time until the next format spin is unknown and won't be found out Wednesday.

Perhaps it is KFWB, maybe related to a possible sale.

Re: KFWB ... Very Good!

Now re: KFI ... The station is awful, crude, offensive. I hope they don't get a chance at FM. I don't want to see another generation of demos exposed to the present-day KFI brand. Let that format stay at 640 and die a slow AM death.

KFWB is a major station? Maybe it's just me, but I'm thinking it's an FM. Plus, Mrs. Laura isn't off the air until December (and from Don's tweet it seems it will be way sooner than that), if KFWB goes where would she go?

Probably nowhere. Who'd take a show that's dead in 90 days? She simply wouldn't be heard in Los Angeles any longer.

That, of course, is IF it's KFWB. And I think both KFI-FM and KABC are a lot more likely.

Buzz is buzz, as seen on these boards and even on LARadio.com, speculations and rumors spread. I'm sure all the changes at KKGO is creating buzz, which might lead to speculation leading to a flip, but I'm placing my bets on a standstill week.
Although I wouldn't doubt CC flipping 92.3 to KFI without announcement. They wouldn't want their jocks to be able to say their goodbyes if I'm correct

Don never said on Wednesday a format would flip. KABC is just making a big announcement on Wednesday.

I'm not sure why KABC is even being talked about. What else would they use 790 for? And, don't forget it clears lots of Citadel Media Networks programming in market 2. Highly unlikely any major changes are coming to 790.

I have a huge feeling 92.3 will flip...

Between yesterday and today, the hosts on KFI have been "flubbing" the "KFI AM 640" line by saying "KFI 640..." and going back to repeat, with emphasis, KFI AM 640. Given the tone, it sounded a bit like an inside joke of the "I know and you don't" variety.

Given the rumor and speculation, I may be making way too much of a few coincidental occurances, but I thought it interesting enough to toss on the fire and see if it lights up.

O.M.G. They always put more emphasis on the "AM"! There is nothing new with that! KFI WILL NOT be on 92.3! Mark my words, I will gladly eat crow if I am wrong!

They don't normally, throughout three different shows, say "KFI 640" and then laugh, chuckle, or make some other noise and then, theatrically, say "KFI Ayyyyy Emmm 640."

At some point, every big-billing AM news talker that can will be on FM. They can't afford not to.

I have to say this is so much fun speculating, however I think most of us may be disappointed tomorrow since i feel KABC's announcement will be neither earth shaking or dramatic enough to save that station. First of all they are having Sean Hannity (I guess he is now their Program director) make the announcement. If it were a bad announcement that KABC was changing to some other format I don't think Sean would have anything to do with it. In all likelihood he probably will announce another one of his FOX buddies is joining the network that's all.

Also I don't think KFI would flip, they are the only talk station that most angelinos listen to, so how could they flip.

So here's my vote that it won't be KFI or KABC that flips. But then again I've never won anything in my life so don't hold me to it.

Nobody is suggesting that KFI would change format; the speculation is about whether the time has come for KFI to add an FM simulcast to protect its billing.

923KFI.com was registered yesterday by someone named Daniel Rosenberg. Does his name sound familiar to anyone? Perhaps he is just a squatter, but these rumors have been out a long time. The timing seems interesting.

Comedy standup promoter. That's nothing to laugh at. ;D ::)
