Major Meltdown at WEBE this morning

New User said:
Curtis W. Hansen is a weasel, he has no spine. He is an ordinary and safe PD or what ever title he holds and his play lists are yawners! Please, if I hear another Daniel Powter record, UH!

WE-BLOW is tired, the format is tired, the jocks are tired, the jingles are tired and Hansen is tired.

Vote here here if you agree Hanson has to get blown out!

I hate to be the one to break this to you, but WEBE is an AC station. Comfortable, familiar music, target audience is women 25-49 +/-. I'm gonna take a wild guess and say you don't fit that demo.

I vote to blow out clueless trolls.

actually ratings were UP, not lackluster. Problems was GM hired me as a Personality to do bits, characters, one liners, (hopefully funny) as I had done successfully in another market. PD OK'ed GM's decision to hire me, but when I got there, convinced GM the humor, bits had to be eased into, slowly, ever so slowly so as not to blow away the music listeners.(Like I was a radical? This was just everyday topical humor, basic, with some risque but not blatant) Every morning for 3 years was a battle. Personality/humor to please myself, and the guy who hired me/ and no bits and lots of music and logo lines to please the PD. Whenever I pulled off some great lines, lots of positive feedback from listeners on the phone, but in the PD's office............."Geeee do you really think that was funny? I don't see the humor in it.....and you forgot to mention WEBE 108, the best mix of today's hit's and yesterday's favorites coming out of 7 songs..." I was not fired, contract was not renewed because quote, "It's not you, we're just going in a different direction.." First time ever that happened to me in radio, and with two mortgages often wondered how I'd handle it. I felt relieved. 2 weeks later signed a contract back in Providence. Returning to Connecticut condo, phone call from guess who?.........."Geeeee we made a mistake and we want you back..." Heard from an inside sales source many sponsors had cancelled.
You could voice track that station 24/7 and no one could tell the difference. I know all about Hansen and how he operates.
Goes back to the big Kops Monahan / KC101 blowout from 1982-83. Because he and another guy who shall remain nameless
came up with the call letter switch from stereo island to KC101-FM, they think they are God's gift to radio. NOT! ;D ::)

It's all about talking up the post and getting the call letters in 15 times frontwards, backwards, upside down, right side up etc. Just as long as you don't crush that vocal You must have been making a good hunk of $$$$$$$ to put up with that garbage.

I was not fired, contract was not renewed because quote, "It's not you, we're just going in a different direction.."

That's a classic kiss of death line from a PD. They can't just spare you the bs and say what they mean. "You're not working out" See you and would not want to be you!" Cause you know that's what they are thinking.

Returning to Connecticut condo, phone call from guess who?.........."Geeeee we made a mistake and we want you back..." Heard from an inside sales source many sponsors had cancelled.

Typical weasel behavior. And because they are a so-called big FM powerhouse you should go back with your tail between your legs and [EDIT]. ;D ::)

[EDIT-vulgarity]

What a disaster this station is in the morning without a cohost...Stormin' Norman talking to himself now and doing traffic as well...worked much better when there was a cohost. And then the predictible burned out Billy Joel song....

Ugh! It's bad in the morning! I think it was Wednesday morning I hard Snorin' Norman doing the "Morning Shout-out"! Some woman on the phone said "Hey this is ____ from ____ and I want to say hi to my friend in Norwalk".

WTF kind of bit is that!?!?!? How does that fit on an alleged AC station????

Yes, I agree and VOTE to Blow Curtis W. Hansen out at WE-BLOW or WEA- WEA 108, both names quite fitting! Hansen is the Bernie Madoff of broadcasting. He has screwed too many radio professionals for far too long! And now he is screwing the listners of Connecticut with his negligent managerial style of having no one in the cockpit during a major snow storm on WE-BLOW 108. Couple that with the tired jingles, Snorrrring Normin' in the morning and that "Music of your death" format and you have the "Perfect Storm" INTOLLERABLE TERRESTRIAL RADIO. Also, for whom ever invented the name WE-BLOW 108, you are absolutely brilliant! The name fits the bill!

Also, yes, I agree to blow out that Ed "Brick Head" Butler too after reading how he minimized the incident. He is miinimizing the incident, because he knows that he is partly to blame for the technical screw up. He has 364 days in the year to make sure that that does not happen and he WE-BLOWS it on the 365th.

Why not bring Joe McCoy and Mike Fitzgerald (CT. Residents and Former CBS FMers) to Bridgeport to turn WE-BLOW 108 around. McCoy and Fitzgerald are commuting to New Jersey to run an FM down there. I'm sure that they would take a gig here and rebrand the station very nicely. How about Oldies 108 to go up against that stale Big D-103 in Hartford, where Larry Wells is not only still on after 20+ years telling the same old jokes (that are not funny and are dated) he is now on afternoon drive. At least if those Bo-Zo's in Hartford were going to put Floyd Wright on, they should have put him in drive. ALso, everyone knows that Bush has an ego, but he is a gereat Jock (Now selling Nissans in Darien) be that as it may, why not replace Bush with Larry Wells.

Final words, why does Curt Hansen get to stay around for 20+ years. What is so great about Hansen? NOTHING!

Retraction... I meant, why not replace Larry Wells with the talented Peter Bush. It would be like the old days:
Crazy Jerry Kristopher 5-10am
Peter Bush 10-3PM
Friendly FLoyd Wright 3-7PM

and what they hay....bring Smokin' Willie B.Goode aka Gnarley Charlie (COAST, FLorida) back to CT. and put Willie on 7PM - Midnight

Permit me to introduce myself, I am the "RADIO MANAGEMENT MASHER" (RMM) and this is my face ;D Do you like my teeth? I look a lot like "Ray Pender the Music Blender", don't I? Look again and imagine me with a tan ;D He, He, Ha, Ha. I speak the truth about all of these incompetent radio people, whom attest and profess to be radio professionals. And I encourage you to use radioinfo.com to do the same.
I am not intimidated by some of the Management, like Hansen, etc. And yes HANSEN SHOULD GO! I do not rely on the Hansens for my livlehood, unlike many of you insecure people. So, I "THE RADIO MANAGEMENT MASHER says as he pleases.

Many of you have not stood up against the likes of Hansen, because you fair that he won't hire you at WE-BLOW 108. But don't worry because he will never hire you because he has had the same 10 perole working there for nearly the last 20-years. So Speak up! So much for Sharing the frequency Curtis W. I thought the people own the FM frequency? Why is it that Curtis W. Hansen has the same stale 10 jocks around still?

I commend radioinfo.com for giving us this vehicle to exercise our 1st amendment right to freedom of speech. Another fine commentary from the RMM

THe Radio Management Masher ;D

If these personalities are bland and not worth the money they are earning, as you suggest, then wouldn't Hansen be the "reverse Bernie Madoff of broadcasting"?

Doesn't even qualify as a bit. It's far too lame. Strokin' Norman is as stale as 10 year old bread. Just another station that is over consulted and way over managed in a bad way. I can't listen for more than ten seconds without wanting to heave my guts up. 107.9 is a radio disgrace. And it's time for change! Starting from the management on down to the cleaning guy who scrubs the toilets. I hope star kicks their backside! ;D

You can tell almost immediately what the song will be after the jock promos the artist. When you can guess nine times out of ten and change the station, that is pathetic programming. BORING RADIO! Cumulus has ruined their CT cluster.
Morning guy doing everything. Next he'll be filling the vending machines during song sets. ROTFLMAO ;D

Butler is a Hansen lackey. He plays the C.Y.A. game very well. Of course he is going to reduce the colassal clusterfock as an isolated insignificant incident. I wonder if the top level management at Cumulus would see it that way???????????
There is no excuse for that broadcasting blunder.

He is a great master of smoke and mirrors! ::)

F Wright, P Bush, etc etc. should start a local yokel network The CT Radio Personality Recycle Network. Last year someone on here wrote on this board that it's normal to go from afternoon drive at a country station to overnights and then wait for the afternoon guy to get canned so the PD can shuffle the lineup around and you can slide into the midday shift. When are these self-absorbed unimportant twits going to learn that the listener only cares about the music. Not the idiotic jibberish coming from their mouths. That has been documented many years ago by Arbitron studies. ;D ::)

I dont think Start has ever beaten WEBE in the ratings. That station is even worse with 150 song playlist vs WEBE's 300 song playlist. Thank God I got XM in one car and dont have to listen to these over consulted, over focus grouped stations...as are many others (listening to other forms of media)--thus all the cannings as the audience declines a bit every year....

The only reason people listen to 108 or 99.9 is because it doesn't take a lot of effort to punch up a free station on a radio. No cost, no fuss. Wait until the advertising dollars start shrinking. Then the garbage is really gonna hit the fan. These stations survive solely on advertising revenue. When that drops like a lead balloon, the management at Cox in Fla and Cumulus in Georgia will Fed Ex'ing pink slips. ;D

The only time I got them in New York City was a faint signal on the elevated portion of I-278 (Bruckner Expressway) in the Bronx.

You must have a real bad radio! :)

Video-

As I respect your views in many ways, the whole thing about Floyd going from PM Drive to overnights in this freakin' day and age of the business IS normal. (Unfortunately) Especially when you want to stay in the area you're in and you own a house that has been in your family for years. It's a personal decision which makes it normal. Tough to sell a house in this economy and even tougher when you DON'T WANT to sell your house. You make due with what you have to in order to get the bills paid. I'm doing this where I live right now. I could never sell my house in this economy without losing money. Thank the lord that I am not in a house that I cannot afford. I work several jobs to supplement what my spouse makes. Full time jobs here in ANY career are slim and none. Can't make a move to another state because you can't sell the house. Our son is also half way through high school in the same school district he started school in. Makes it easier on him and quality of his life is also important. Just my opinion.
