major shakeup for CMG talkers?

w00t, let's be honest, who the hell is listening to radio at night anyway unless it's to hear Michael Savage conspiring the gun-hoarding wing of the Republican Party to stockpile their weapons....they don't give a **** about the 9pm to Midnight crowd

what's this business calling both 680 and 850 WPTF?

first of all, this is a PPM market, not a diary market.

second, even if it were a diary market, the listeners aren't that stupid. they know 850 is NOT WPTF.

Let the guessing games begin.

WZTK is flipping to Spanish.

Just what the Triad needs...ANOTHER Spanish station.

Dave Ramsey is staying on 680 middays???

Does he deliver dump truck loads of cash on a daily basis or something? He can't possibly be worth keeping on.

Actually, yes he does. They have a VERRRRRY generous "marketing budget" that they give to some local stations...

Okay, but is it really worth destroying the rest of the station just to air him?

If there was any questioning of "why", it is why does Curtis continually feels that he can serve two completely different markets (Triad/Triangle - social/economic) with one station. He has been trying to do that with 101.1 since the first day he bought the station. Tried that with the country format and then again with the talk format and now he is trying to do it with the music format. Pick a market and go for it and I suspect he would have better financial success that all this format swapping to stop the red ink.

Interesting from the WZTK website - a link to leave comments:

http://www.curtismedia.com/wztk/

Will anyone read the comments or will they be auto-filtered to trash?

Also, I guess Alan Colmes didn't have the audience to find a home on WSJS or AM850? I'm as conservative as they come, but I'd have Colmes on my schedule if I had a talk station covering both sides.

You just hit the nail on the head

Not to mention to completely different markets, two top 50 markets in the country. It's a completely different ballgame.

I also heard this morning that veteran Newsman Ed Skruka will be hosting a 12 PM News Hour, I think that's the only "Major" Change I care about. I don't know Ed and never met him, but he's a terrific news anchor. Good for him.

That's why ZTK needs a music format that is not available in either market. Country and Talk were well covered in both markets the last ten years. A unique music station, without traffic reports, could be home to both markets. You couldn't cheap out doing it, though. Automation will not win.

The problem with ZTK's signal is that it doesn't fully cover either market. Good luck living off Burlington revenue.

The signal sucks in Forsyth and it sucks in Wake. I always lol when I read a reference to what a "monster" signal it is. If they do indeed put the Pulse on 101.1 it will still need the 102.3 simulcast.

A single station with a generic format could indeed serve both markets. After all, Rush Radio 94.5 is essentially a satellite of 106.1.

Say they move Pulse to 101.1, simulcasting on 102.3. What to do with 102.5, then?
