major WKNR announcement

During the Really Big Show, they announced that Wednesday at 11:30 a.m., there would be a major programming announcement.

LET THE SPECULATION BEGIN!

My $0.02---Rome back to 12-3 on WKNR with Hammer and Ned being spun off to their own show on KNR2 at noon (an RBS "postgame show" as it were) .

I didn't see this thread, the Mods should feel free to merge my thread with this one. I actually think KNR has lost Rome to Clear Channel in this market. They might rotate Greg Brinda and Munch in 1-3 until they find something else to do with it in the next major program announcement 6 months from now.

If that's true, then Rome would be perfect for the midday slot on WMMS.

Fits in with the man-cave motif over there...Rover/Rome/Cox/Nicky Sixx/Browns/rock overnights and weekends? You may have something there.

But, don't discount GKB merely biting the bullet and bringing Rome back to 850 for the full 12-3 timeslot.

Wouldn't surprise me in the least if the affiliation contract was coming up and Premiere put the proverbial AK-47 up to Craig Karmazin's temple and said "give us back the full clearance on 850, or we bolt!"

Make RBS 9-noon, and spin Hammer and Ned off to their own show on 1540 from noon-2 ("Really Big Show Extra" or something like that...they can call it an RBS "brand extension" or some snarky thing).

We'll see.

I think either option is possible. Great job! :)

Considering that the end of the month is this Friday, my money's on Premiere canceling the Rome contract outright. But then again, Premiere may have used the threat of bolting to WMMS to force a return of the entire program back to 850.

They may not be saying that tRBS has added another hour, but let's throw THIS option into the mix. If KNR lost Rome for good, tRBS slides into the 10a-2p slot. Reghi & Roda get a start time of 2pm, because no one said that R&R wasn't getting another hour.

Plus, it gives the final hour of Mike & Mike back on 850 AND the final hour of Cowherd back on KNR2, which makes ESPN Radio happy.

Now, it would be very interesting to see if CC/Cleveland has the vision and fortitude to get Rome on WMMS. The time would be fortuitous for them, provided that the NFL lockout ends as swiftly as possible, they can now boast the true "man-cave" format all day long during the games. It's the perfect opportunity for them.

If Aaron was intimating OTA that WKNR "was considering bringing the third hour back" (from what I've read on the boards today) he could well be initiating a CYA move by WKNR should Premiere have canceled the contract.

Here, WKNR plays the innocent, "we tried to mend things up" card, and paint Premiere as representative of the evil Clear Channel conglomerate. Especially if WMMS gets the Rome affiliation. And "we'll make it up to you, the audience, by going more local."

Of course, none of this should have ever happened in the first place. An 12p-2p "RBS Extension" on KNR2 should have been done back in January. But, honestly, that would have resulted in no one listening to Aaron and Fedor period - music to everyone BUT those two.

If KNR loses Rome, I could see their new daytime lineup be this:

6-9 Mike and Mike
9-1 tRBS
1-2 (Solo or Duo) Fill-Ins [Ned, Hammer, Munch, Brinda, TJ, Will Burge]
2-6 Afternoon R&R
6-8 X's and O's

If WMMS gets Rome, this could be their new daytime lineup:
6-11 Rover
11-12 Music (Maybe one of Rover's sidekicks; I don't listen to Rover so idk how that would go)
12-3 Rome
3-7 Alan Cox

KNR might as well give the 1PM hour - or the 1PM-3PM slot - to Aaron and Fedor. And good luck with THAT, boys.

Rover's sidekicks Shawn "Dumb" Street and Mike "Chocolate Charley" Toomey hosted an online/iHeartRadio post-Rover show for awhile called "The Aftermath." WMMS had the stupid idea of plugging those two idiots on in between Maxwell and Alan Cox, costing Alan a significant audience share... but it might work as a one-hour show in-between Rover and Rome.

Either that, or plug Chad Zumock and Toomey for a spin-off of both Rover and Alan's shows. They could do some serious experimenting here.

That would be an interesting spin off with Aaron and Fedor. Rome on WMMS would be very interesting? WMMS takes a lot of chances, so I could see this happening

If Rome were to fall into Oak Tree hands, you'd know about it, because they'd MAKE SURE you'd know.

GKB (I believe) may have taken Romey for granted, and thought that he wouldn't mind his 1st hour going over to 1540 in order to expand the RBS.

If they do lose Rome, they might go Dan Patrick 9-noon, RBS noon-4, R & R 4-8, and Brinda 8-midnight.

Split up the X & O's boys...put Bentley on RBS (I'd like to hear Hammer talk smack about the Buckeyes with the 6-5, 300lb OSU alum Bentley sitting across from him ;)), and Cherry with R & R.

Also, just go full ESPN on 1540, since FSR is a red headed stepchild over there anyway.

Hmmm...

Rover/Rome/Cox/Sixx on WMMS, Mike & Mike/Dan Patrick/RBS/R & R/Brinda on WKNR, M & M/Cowherd/Van Pelt/Gottlieb on WWGK.

We'll see.

If you ask me, a dedicated "Rover's Morning Glory" channel on iHeartRadio is an even stupider idea.

I know - they can call it "The Fourth Hour"! (No, wait, that's taken...)

I'm with OMW on this one... no preliminary rumors, this all came out of the blue real fast. Probably something small like adding someone else to some minor program or doing a crappy remote.

IF they would lose Rome... and I don't think that's happening just yet, I love the previous poster's suggestion of Dan Patrick. However, it would never fly for two reasons. One, if you move RBS, ESPN, understanding CK's love for it's brand and his push for "brand marketing of ESPN 850," would immediately want the 9-10AM clearance of Mike and Mike back, and would want Cowherd immediately following if there wasn't a local presence.

Also, with DP's affiliation with Fox, are there any ESPN stations who clear him? I'm assuming not.

The ESPN affiliate in Youngstown, WBBW/1240 "ESPN 1240", carried him until the show moved to WNIO/1390..when it became "The Sports Animal". I suspect other ESPN affiliates grabbed him when he restarted his show.

Remember, DP wasn't affiliated with FSR when he restarted the show. It was originally syndicated by Chicago-based "The Content Factory". Affiliates like WBBW were along for the ride before the FSR deal. DirecTV Sports now produces it, but I don't know if the separate non-FSR syndication deal is still being offered to new affiliates.

One pretty safe bet - no ESPN O&Os are carrying DP. But WBBW and WKNR are both not O&Os, of course.

The timing of this "announcement" (11:30 AM) could lead one to believe it's about something like returning Rome's first hour to the big signal.

But I've heard nothing rumor-wise, and we've been burned by this "big announcement" before. Even the last time, they were trying to spread rumors about Rizzo moving to PM drive, which got to Oak Tree and set off Triv, and of course, that was bogus...

Nice weather for a charity golf tournament, isn't it? :)

VERY small market ESPN Radio affils might still be carrying DP, especially if there is no turnkey operation that is piping in FSR on a near 24/7 basis.

It never would air on 850 alone due to the close relationship Craig K has with the Bristol Armed Compound - even with the fact that 850 preempts so much ESPN weekday programming, or shuttles it off to non-existent KNR2. It still has to be a good relationship for all of Craig's six other sports-formatted stations to be affiliated with ESPN or ESPN Deportes.

IIRC, KNR2 was carrying DP 9-10 AM weekdays - once FSR added him - until they shuffled "Mike & Mike's" first hour over to the Greater Euclid Avenue And Parts of East Cleveland sports station.

I get the idea it was just because FSR put DP on the feed. And I agree, I don't see them putting DP on 850 at all.

'KNR is now promoting the "Major Programming Announcement" on its website pretty prominently. Does a remote from a golf tournament count as a "programming" announcement? ;)

Well, Rizzo's annual "Really Big Show Open" golf tournament is Thursday, (with the prerequisite live remote), so the announcement likely isn't links related.

Gotta think it's "jungle" related one way or the other...either a return to 12-3 or announcing Romey has (digitally) left the building with schedule changes to fill the gap.

If it is in fact Premiere having Rome bid adios to WKNR, there may actually be some pitchforks and torches surrounding the Galleria.

You are correct, sir...Dan Partrick was on 1540 for a spell once his show was picked up on the FSR bird. GKB moved the 4th hour of Mike and Mike over to KNR2, when RBS originally expanded from 2 hours to 3.

Now that I think about it, methinks the only way DP gets back on Cleveland radio airwaves (the show is simulcast on FS Ohio for those who need a DP fix) is if someone else other than GKB tries their hand at the sports radio game (106.5 The Fan anyone?...j/k ;))

And just for OMW...

FOUR!!!

Based on OMW's cryptic tweets, this much has been determined:

RBS isn't changing anything, Rome isn't going anywhere, no PBP involved.

So my guess---Xs and Os expands to 7-9 p.m., and Brinda goes from 9-midnight (be it Gamenight, 10th Inning, or KNR OT...It's Brinda 9-midnight in some incarntation).

Nope, it's not anything rumored above.

We are hearing that the station will announce new team-related programming related to one of the major local teams.

No PBP involved, either moving or new.

The team is not heard on 850 or 1540, and will not be moving its broadcasts to either station - and probably never will, in our estimation.

That should be enough clues.

No move of Rome's Hour 1 back to 850. No changes to tRBS. No new signal or signal change.

Our source on this one is very, very solid. Sorry to spoil the parade the Galleria planned for Wednesday late morning...
