MAKE ROOM FOR BUDDY AT WPRO

Paul Giammarco said it & it's in today's Projo. WPRO plans on having lots of talks with Buddy once he's released. Giammarco said plans have been devised to shift WPRO’s lineup (DePetro, Yorke, Limbaugh) to make room for Buddy if he wants to be on the radio. Forget Spidey 3, Jack Sparrow, & Harry Potter. The ultimate summer popcorn movie may begin soon.

Good idea? Bad idea? I'm really not sure, but am tending toward "good idea".
 
Will put the literal stake in the heart of WHJJ....good idea (or as we say here, ideer). He would be a good change of pace to what is currently on the air and a good compliment to some of the hosts on PRO currently

will be anything more, you're nuts.

Not a TWO time convicted felon.
What will Cianci talk about, getting sexually assualted in prison? What murderer he bunked with?
And then there's DEPETRO. He HATES him. THEY HATE EACHOTHER.
If WPRO were in the Stock Market, they'd know Bulls and Bears eat, Pigs get slaughtered.
Their acting like hogs.

BAD IDEA! What appearences on WPRO to get Buddy out for the day off his home Confinement. I doubt Officer Higgens and gang at Home Confinment is going to fall for that.
 
This is perfectly a good idea, personally knowing Buddy...I know he will actucally put on a good talk radio show. And, this is a genius move on PRO-AM's part. This will definatly slam WHJJ...and, shows they have a good lineup of actucal talk shows.
 
This isn't about value judgements. It's about programming & creating a buzz.
This would be after home confinement.
I'm not talking about 3-4 hours. Maybe 1.
If you think he's out of touch with the outside world because he's been in prison you're unrealistic.
No one really knows if he's damaged goods & no one will know until he's on the air.
As far as DePetro, I don't see that he & Yorke have ripped each others' throats out yet.
I'm not saying he even deserves to be on the air, but from a programming point of view you do what will work & get you attention. Sure, people will leave Paul Giammarco voice mails complaining that they'll never listen to WPRO again. Then they'll listen. I'd put Hannibal Lechter on the air if I didn't think he'd eat his producer.
Now I'm not poking fun at him, but he wears a bad hairpiece. He knows it & wants it that way. It's one of his trademarks. However, that thing has probably been sitting in a locker somewhere for 5 years & looks like something Bruce Sundlun shot. I'm willing to bet he's already planning on getting fitted for a new one because you know the TV cameras are going to be on the Trail this summer.

The article also quoted a close source as saying Buddy had a job lined up in Boston. WRKO?

Cianci is easiest one of the smoothest talkers I've ever know, whether there is a mic in front of him or not. He is personable, how else do you explain getting RE-ELECTED after his first conviction. When he was on the air after the first conviction, he had very high ratings, had great sponsorship. And he talked about EVERYTHING under the sun.
Whatever personal problems you have with him, don't listen. Let's look at some of the biggest national names in talk.....G Gordon Liddy-oops a felon, Rush Limbaugh-oops a felon-so being a felon doesn't disqualify you from being able to talk, be good at it and relate to an audience.
Depetro has no control over what management does, either. As a matter of fact, if John makes too many waves, might be looking at Buddy 9-11:45 (his old slot)....after what happened up in Boston, he doesn't have too many laurels to rest on.
Maybe you and Buddy crossed paths in his/your radio career and you got burned; but give it a rest because if he was able to, he'd beat Cicilline in the next election. As far as home confinement, that will be over in late July from what was written up in the paper yesterday.

WPRO is ALREADY a powerhouse and you think Cianci is smooth, he's an animal.
I did work with Cianci years ago. A degenerate and drug user.
From what I've been told , he's a beaten down institutionalized man now.
I just don't see the need. PRO is miles ahead of the rest.

One other thing. Salty, thats right, SALTY. Need I say more? Walter

Never said G Gordon was a racketeer, he IS a felon. My mistake on Rush being a convicted of a felony, he has been charged with a felony about the drug charges and has another 6 months before the agreed 18 month therapy is completed and the charge fully withdrawn. I should have said Ollie North....

I know WPRO is ALREADY a powerhouse-Duh! I never went into Buddy's private life, I just said that Buddy is one of the smoothest talkers out there, he has the ability to talk to anyone about anything. I also have had worked with him in the past and I realize that the man has his faults; but his talent is not deniable...he speaks to a broad spectrum of people about a broad spectrum of issues. He always did.

Not to be crass; but Salty hasn't been part of that station for many years and the people running the station are 3 ownership groups removed from having Salty as their employee. You look at 3 ownership changes, I believe it is at least 5-6 Program Director/General manager changes as well....the station is completely different now from then and also so is the industry.

Look at WRKO in Boston.....fine heritage...they have Tom Finneran on mornings now. Look at WNBC-they were a POWERHOUSE with Imus, Soupy & Stern....eventually lost to PLJ & Z-100 and became the Fan. Things change

I recieved a call yesterday from a die hard WPRO fan. He said he decided to give WHJJ
a chance , because of the Cancer specials. What does he hear, a show about Abortion with a Dr. Pablo Rodrigues angry that Partical Birth Abortion is illegal now.
My friend says he switched back to WPRO.
Cianci is in the same league.Many of us are up to here with criminals and bad guys.
There are still some people out there with integrity. Walter.

You are much like the rest of the noise on these threads where you don't engage in discussion; but cut down the posters who have a valid point.....

Yes, I know what integrity is and as I've said, the industry and the station has changed since the days of Salty. There are VERY few stations out there that presented with the opportunity to get a PROVEN talk host winner in the market would turn it down.

WPRO had Buddy on in between his conviction and reporting for sentence, don't see any reason why they wouldn't have him back on again (new manager, by the way) and how about the part where he has paid his debt to society.....leave your past feelings behind. Mary Ann Sorrentino had a long career with what some people thought was a "less than moral" previous career, Arlene Violet left the church and had a great career, as mentioned earlier...if you don't like it, don't listen.

You need new glasses as all I did was point out your moral outrage that he might be hired and pointing out other former talk hosts have had things of moral question in their past that didn't exclude them from being a good talk show host.
Is Buddy in Mary Ann or Arlene's league, no....but he also isn't that far off (much better than Glover and in my opinion, Depetro).
If we had it your way, Walter, Larry & Coach would still be on wake up duty, Mary Ann mornings right after and Bruce Newberry in the afternoon....
Before taking shots at this post, read it once and then read it again. I pray for you, Walter. ???

You did compare Arlene and Vinny, stop trying to be a lawyer.

Look Cianci is a 2 time convicted felon. A Federal Judge and Jury said
he was the King-pin of a criminal enterprise. He disgraced himself and
R.I. It was a national story. For me, thats too much.

At first, I didn't care about Buddy. He's done so much bad, as you pointed out,It would be wrong for me
,not to say it wouldn't be ok for someone else.
I do also feel bad for Matt Allan.

Read my lips Walter and Kenwood and Alfie. The question is whether or not he'll pull numbers and get media attention and be able to do a good talk show and should be hired for those reasons. You're giving me a headache constantly claiming he's a criminal. We know he's a criminal. We know he isn't Mr Nice Guy. That isn't the topic. If you're gonna respond with "he's done time" anytime someone discusses whether or not he'd be a good hire then that means you're off on another subject. That's all I'm saying.
