Make Star 102.5 - Nash Country 102.5

Buffalo could use another Country station.... WYRK is over played... Entercom should take a jab at it by making WTSS Country...
NASH Country 102.5.... Get rid of Sue shes not needed and probs cost them a ton of money... Have local talent for a morning show and syndicated shows the rest of the day... If any station has a chance of standing up to WYRK it would be WTSS.... Thoughts??

WTSS is apparently in a three way tie for 3rd in billing in the market, and is an identifiably different adult format. Being the second country station is not going to get them higher billing than what they already have, and they are billing.

And the Cumulus owned Nash brand is being eliminated, not extended. It, to say it mildly, did not work. That format was created when Lou tried to go from being a little Dickey to just a big D--k.

The idea of Entercom starting a country station has been discussed for 107.7. Their problem is they have a top rated country station in an adjacent market: WBEE in Rochester. The huge signal from WTSS gets into Rochester. Not good to compete with yourself.

Star is no where near to being a top three biller in the market. It used to be, but not in a long, long time. Not even close.

also, please forget the perception that the reason entercom does not go country in Buffalo is because wbee. That has zero to do with it. The reason entercom Buffalo does not do country is because they are afraid Townsquare would go chr to compete against kiss. That’s the reason. Fact.

as far as being the 2nd rated country station....I would take that in a second. YRK is the top biller in the market. star would make far more money than they Bill now. Quickly too

Not doubting you, but TS's weakest performer was WBUF. If they were going to flip anything to CHR, that was the station to flip.

Seems strange to avoid making money out of fear. That's not what I was taught.

That’s not what you thought, but that’s what these clueless companies think. As far as wbuf weaker performer, it’s probably WMSX because they have a payroll . Both those stations are no where near where they should be. Ratings or revenue. The should be embarrassed, but their nit, because the king pin, WYRK, is the market top biller. They better hope I don’t get a full power fm. I will promote the shit out of it. It will sound great

Buddy needs a full power FM station.....
If Buddy got his hands on a full power FM station and turned it country... y'all better watch out....
Buddy you should try to do something like CJ Country... They seem to have their A game in place..
Sales at WTSS went down the toilet ever since Buddy left them.... He was one of the top sales people entercom ever had

I know exactly what I would do with a full power FM. it’ll happen

Buddy does radio right. The big guys just want to cut to the point where the jukebox is running by AI and all they do is plugin a format. The listener wants to interact and engage with the person on the mic. Otherwise why put up with the 4-6min commercials at every break? Changing Star to country would do no good for ratings if they just play music with nothing local.

It's a very small group of people. Most don't. WBUF showed you can get pretty good ratings with a jukebox.
WBUF has horrible ratings for a more than 50,000 watt FM. Total waste of a signal.

This argument about if listeners like DJ's or not is really not focused. It depends on the format. People listen to Howard Stern because of him. News Talk listeners love their personalities.

As far as music stations, they matter and they don't. If what they are saying compelling and relatable, it will matter. I can tell you with much certainty that our personalities are very much liked by our audience. Listeners tell us that all the time.

Do DJ's matter on STAR? For what they do and say now? Probably not. It's pure Vanilla

Do they matter on 97 Rock? Absolutely. They are trusted, long time friends to the listeners. They matter. 97 Rock is a culture, it's a lifestyle. They have done a great job making it a fabric of Buffalo

Do they matter on MSX? Doubt it. Play the music

Do they matter at WHTT? Not at all

Do they matter on YRK? Yes and No. I am a P1 country listener. It's my favorite music, by far. I have not listened to YRK in years as I get my country from satellite. But working for YRK on air for 10 years as I did from 86-96, the DJ's meant everything then, but there was no satellite radio. I think the morning show matters to listeners at YRK more than anything.

This discussion about DJ's VS Jukebox is a valid conversation, because there are cases to be made from both sides. It's an interesting topic. Especially for music stations.

Good analysis. Companies have spent millions to find out just what you are saying based on experience and common sense.

This should show others that a good market sense is as good as outside research and often even better.

Buffalo does not have an AC station in the market. Star 102.5 is the closest thing to a AC station in the market. If entercom flipped WTSS which I doubt will happen there would be a huge void in the market
