Man, To Me, 96.1 Sounds better than 95.1

When driving through Charlotte this past weekend, I noticed 95.1 did not have RDS and there signal was shakey. Man, I hate to say it - Clear Channel CHR's are so much better than CBS. And 96.1 happens to be a better sounding CHR than Kiss right now. And with ACE&TJ coming in the next couple od days, I bet you the number's will be way up and Kiss won't move up (even ahead) for a long time. It's time for a reality check for Kiss. But yes, Kiss is a good CHR but I see Channel 96.1 having a solid year. Sorry Kiss.

Kiss' lack of RDS must have been a fluke. I've seen it with my own eyes DX'ing them in Athens, GA. Hell, I even uploaded a picture of the radio screen to my Facebook. Been a while since I've been in the Charlotte area, but I recall them just as strong a signal as 96.1.

I posted my thoughts on the Kiss/Channel battle in the other thread. It's obviously subjective and I respect your opinion, I just don't agree with all of it. I definitely don't agree with the generalization that CC's CHRs are better than CBS'. Both companies have some excellent properties, but many of CC's tend towards the generic side.

For me, Kiss has superior imaging, more interesting music (although thanks to PPM, it's not quite as diverse as it once was), and a better overall energy. Otis is an execllent jock who, by following in the footsteps and now competing against the Ace & TJ behemoth, was doomed to unfair criticism from the start. Outside of morning drive, Kiss and Channel are about equal jock-wise outside of middays, where Kiss is far superior.

No doubt about it, Channel is a good station that's improved and a worthy competitor. Kiss just feels fresher and less sanitized to me. CBS handed CC a golden opportunity by letting Ace & TJ walk, and that's the only reason Channel has a remote shot of competing with Kiss now.

I guess if you like the Clear Channel "mold" of CHRs - 96.1 sounds like a hundred other Clear Channel CHRs that all play the same stuff

IMO Kiss 95.1 is much more original with their music selection

The O Show on 95.1 has its good moments, but there are a few things that just seem childish. The "Carmen" segment, for example, has made me stop listening. It's just not funny. I find it just plain annoying, and it is played several times during each show. Other than that, the show has potential. Good luck to them!

Looks like, musically, they're trying to go more head-on with 95.1 - they've gotten much more mainstream, starting today.

atlantaboy, that's quite debatable. Even G105 does not play the same flow of music as Channel or even other mainstreams. I,, as in Channel or say FLZ' in Tampa don't hear them playing Matchbox 20 or Michael Buble during their rotation just of the blue. Again, CBS does have good CHR's but look, B96 in Chicago - they do play a lot of the same songs over and over. Gosh, they were obsessed with Justin Beiber and his "rise to fame.". It really depends on the station, itself.

Channel is sounding fantastic. The mainstream playlist (they go slightly more rhythmic from 7pm-12am) with the addition of recurrent/older acts like Neon Trees, The Fray (Cable Car), Boys Like Girls, Fall Out Boy, Snow Patrol, P!nk, etc. is very good. I can really see them posing a threat to Kiss now.

I will be listening to Channel 96.1 down here in Greenville much more often if they keep this sound up.

G105 is a huge exception though, cause it targets an older demographic- there are literally 30-40 Clear Channel CHRs that sound just like Channel 96.1, and have almost identical playlists

Still sounds rhythmic to me. Then again, I only sample it after 11 at night. Though I do have a button in my car and was unfortunate enough to hit it while searching for good Christmas music. Didn't find it there!

Channel 961 does sound better. Kiss needs to get rid of their whole morning show. They are not WINNING!!! The PD J.Reynolds needs his pink slip handed to him. He's hired some part time morons too. Crazy Chris and Cary Cash are just two who were just terrible on the air. The list goes on for Reynold's worst hires.

It is definitely more rhythmic at night. During the day, its very teeny bopper.

I like the mix show they do at 10pm.

Was about to say this. It sounds a lot like the old 96.1 used to, at least on weekend nights. I am hoping one day a real rhythmic CHR comes back to Charlotte. Power 98 is too all over the map in terms of its playlist.

Though it's bad enough. I wish someone would come up with a solution for low-VHF TV that involved taking some of these short-spaced FMs and moving them. I really enjoy the classic country music on WBRF but WPEG messes it up this far south and I simply do not want to hear all that mess.

I pushed a button yesterday around 1:00 and heard a rock song on 96.1. Imagine that! Now it was on the rhythmic side of rock, but still rock. I think.

Yeah they are playing a lot more rock now especially during the day. I've heard Nickelback and Daughtry on there.

And I agree Charlotte needs a classic country station. I don't think the problem is quite the number of frequencies but the fact there are too many stations doing the same format. I think we have 2 chrs, 3 hot countries, and 3 (hot) ACs. There only really needs to be one CHR, one rhythmic CHR, one urban, one hot country, one classic country, one AC, and one hot AC.

There are not 3 Hot AC's. Technically, there are none, although 107.9 sounds somewhat like one (they report as AC).

102.9 and 104.7 are AC, and I agree there should just be one.
