Kiss' lack of RDS must have been a fluke. I've seen it with my own eyes DX'ing them in Athens, GA. Hell, I even uploaded a picture of the radio screen to my Facebook. Been a while since I've been in the Charlotte area, but I recall them just as strong a signal as 96.1.
I posted my thoughts on the Kiss/Channel battle in the other thread. It's obviously subjective and I respect your opinion, I just don't agree with all of it. I definitely don't agree with the generalization that CC's CHRs are better than CBS'. Both companies have some excellent properties, but many of CC's tend towards the generic side.
For me, Kiss has superior imaging, more interesting music (although thanks to PPM, it's not quite as diverse as it once was), and a better overall energy. Otis is an execllent jock who, by following in the footsteps and now competing against the Ace & TJ behemoth, was doomed to unfair criticism from the start. Outside of morning drive, Kiss and Channel are about equal jock-wise outside of middays, where Kiss is far superior.
No doubt about it, Channel is a good station that's improved and a worthy competitor. Kiss just feels fresher and less sanitized to me. CBS handed CC a golden opportunity by letting Ace & TJ walk, and that's the only reason Channel has a remote shot of competing with Kiss now.
