Map of American TV town settings online

I love how they put Seattle about where Spokane is.

But really any map that doesn't show you where Hooterville or Springfied (The Simpsons) is, is useless :)

Boy, talk about incomplete! They left off (for starters):

NYC Metro
Manhattan: I Love Lucy, The Jeffersons, Taxi
Queens: All In The Family/Archie Bunker's Place, Dear John
Brooklyn: Welcome Back, Kotter
New Rochelle: The Dick Van Dyke Show

Chicago: The Bob Newhart Show
Phoenix: Alice, The New Dick Van Dyke Show
Indianapolis: One Day At A Time
Bloomington IN: The Jeff Foxworthy Show, Breaking Away
Minneapolis: The Mary Tyler Moore Show
Los Angeles: Adam 12, Emergency, The Rockford Files, The Beverly Hillbillies
San Francisco: Ironside, The Streets of San Francisco
Cocoa Beach FL: I Dream of Jeannie
Honolulu: Hawaii Five-O (both versions), Magnum PI
Dodge City KS: Gunsmoke
Virginia City NV: Bonanza
Mayberry NC*: The Andy Griffith Show/Mayberry RFD
Hooterville ??*: Petticoat Junction, Green Acres

* If they can list the fictional Frostbite Falls MN, I can list the fictional Mayberry NC and Hooterville whatever-state-it-was supposed-to-be-in. ;D

Webster was also based in Chicagoland (first in Chicago, then I believe Oak Park).

Also in Chicago, Family Matters

Laverne & Shirley also was in Milwaukee for the first 5 seasons, then switched to Burbank, CA after that.

Also in the Milwaukee suburb of Port Washington, there was Step By Step.

For San Francisco, Full House

....and they abbreviated Virginia as "VI", when it should be VA.

VI is the US Virgin Islands, I doubt that a TV show was set there.

cd

Tuckahoe, NY - Maude
Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Mary Tyler Moore Show (can't believe they missed this one)
Boulder, CO - Mork & Mindy
Stuckeyville, OH - Ed
Fernwood, OH - Fernwood Tonight/America Tonight
Cicely, AK - Northern Exposure (The map fails to show Alaska and Hawaii)
Honolulu, HI - Hawaii 5-O
Reno, NV - Reno 911
Santa Monica, CA - Three's Company

Now if someone would answer the $64,000 question: in what
state was "Guiding Light"'s Springfield? There were occasional
references that made me think it was Illinois, yet "GL"'s Springfield
was not the state capital (as Springfield, IL) is, and "Springfield
Township" (whose sign you saw in the show's last year or so) is
in New Jersey. Other soaps have been more specific about their
state:

The Young And The Restless: Genoa City, WI (actually a small town
Bill Bell and family passed through going between Chicago and Lake Geneva)

The Bold And The Beautiful: Los Angeles

General Hospital: Port Charles, NY

Days Of Our Lives: Salem, IL (although I thought that in the early days it
was Salem, MA)

And among the departed:

As The World Turns: Oakdale, IL

All My Children: Pine Valley, PA

One Life To Live: Llanview, PA

Another World: Bay City, IL (I'm wondering if it was actually Bay City, MI)

Loving: Corinth, PA (I think--I know the setting was changed to New York)

Ryan's Hope: New York City

Passions: Harmony, ME

Dark Shadows: Collinsport, ME

Love Of Life: Rosehill, NY

Secret Storm: Woodbridge, NY

Edge Of Night: Monticello (presumably Ohio because of the show's opening shot
of Cincinnati at night)

But I never knew where Henderson ("Search For Tomorrow") was.

And as for "The Simpsons": Springfield, VT got the "honor" of being their Springfield,
but some might argue that the Simpsons live in Kentucky, since both on the show and
for real, Springfield and Shelbyville are not terribly far apart.

I was reading a blip about the character Flo on "Alice." The movie was set in Tuscon and the TV show in Phoenix, but it says that Flo was from Fort Worth, which she calls "Cowtown."

I remember from "Alice" Flo saying she was from "Cowtown," and I do believe Cowtown is a nickname of sorts for Fort Worth, but I don't think that is the same place Flo was talking about? Or am I remembering wrong?

Let's see....

South Dakota: Warehouse 13
Oregon: Eureka
Coastal Maine: Haven
Vermont: Newhart
Kansas: Smallville
San Francisco: Journeyman, Sliders, The Streets of San Francisco
Colorado Springs, CO: Stargate SG-1
Los Angeles: Angel
Boston: Spencer for Hire, Leverage

Buffalo, NY--"Buffalo Bill"
Washington DC--"Get Smart"
Las Vegas--2 shows called "Vegas", 1 called "Las Vegas", and "Eisenhower & Lutz"
San Francisco--"The Doris Day Show"
LA--"Perry Mason", "The Burns & Allen Show", "The Addams Family", "The Munsters"
NYC--"The Abbott And Colstello Show"

(sorry if I'm repeating any)

Squidbillies - north Georgia mountains

No love for Alabama and Mississippi? It's hard to believe no shows have been set there.

Not to mention the 2 other places GL used, Selby Flats (in CA), and another place before that. In the last few episodes of ATWT, Springfield was actually mentioned in a scene so I would think it was in some proximity to Oakdale.

One of the P&G soaps (ATWT, Edge, can't remember) used "Capital City" as the name of the state capital setting.

Another World: Bay City, IL (I'm wondering if it was actually Bay City, MI)

I didn't get to watch AW in it's earliest years so I'm not sure how or if any state was referenced then, but I know Illinois was referenced more than once later on, including when Rachel was called to the inn in Maine that Mac was at, and the hotel clerk told Rachel that there was a letter waiting for her (and would tell her that Mac passed away). I guess it was an un-mailed letter, the front of the envelope had an address on the front, ending in "Bay City, Illinois". As with the Springfield-on-ATWT reference above, Bay City was mentioned many times in the last several ATWT eps--almost or probably more than it was during the crossovers after AW was cancelled. A donor heart was found in Bay City for an ATWT character, and the young up-and-coming doctor was willing to drive to Bay City to get it (so they really made it sound like Bay City was in driving distance from Oakdale).

Dark Shadows: Collinsport, ME

Dark Shadows is actually the only daytime soap mentioned on the map.

Days Of Our Lives: Salem, IL (although I thought that in the early days it
was Salem, MA)

IINM, Salem's state has never been mentioned, but a yearly festival for the show has been held in the last few years in Salem, IL.

Edge of Night: Monticello

I'd go for IL on this one also, as it was referenced several times as being near Oakdale, which was in IL. For some reason, Draper & April's old house (before they moved to April's late mother Margo's penthouse) was in Oakdale, not in Monticello.

But I never knew where Henderson ("Search For Tomorrow") was.

I don't remember anyone referring to a state for Search, but I'd probably guess IL.
