Sorry, he's still tied to ESPN/ABC.
CBS does have some good play-by-play announcers (Verne
Lundquist and Kevin Harlan stand out) but I don't know that
any color commentators leap out at me. Also, I wonder if
CBS could have better handled the situation that occurred
during the Kentucky-Iowa State game: Lesley Visser was
interviewing Ashley Judd (who, tactfully, remembered she
was on CBS and didn't mention her new ABC show) when
Terence Jones got a technical. Lundquist was forced to
wait until Lesley whispered something into Ashley's ear
before he could explain (and show the replay) of Jones'
near-tantrum that got him the foul.
TV sports departments love sucking up to Ashley Judd. If she isn't getting camera time at Kentucky hoops games, she's being shown every 5 seconds when her husband, Dario Franchitti, is winning an Indycar race.
This was the first time in the last several years I could remember that they interviewed her during a timeout. Looked like Lesley Visser was starstruck, or maybe she ignored the director, as that segment dragged on. I have no clue what she said, since they were both drowned out by the band, nor would I really want to know. But Visser was completely oblivious to the game, and as a result, so were the viewers, until the ladies magnanimously shut up so Lundquist could explain about the technical foul. This sort of crap used to happen to ESPN with 'Monday Night Football', before they finally stopped the nonsensical celeb interviews.
Judd, at least, went to UK, knows the game, and belongs there, as a spectator. But we don't need a star-struck interviewer 'whispering' in her ear when something's happening on the court.
