MARCH PPMS ARE OUT

From what I was told by someone who should know, 23 people in the PPM panel changed on 1 day in Oct. Even someone at Kicks acknowledged to me that they feel that's the reason for the switch in ratings between the 2 stations. That said, I agree with the esteemed Mr. Ryder that CC made a mistake by firing Lindy for what was according to rumors a ridiculous reason.

I've been in Portland for the past several days and have discovered that my life and my music are on K103, CC's AC.

Q100 is down from it's highest ratings ever to it's second highest ratings ever. Wow, they have really screwed up their music.

Apparently, they're reacting to the ratings drop though, and they're bringing the entire Cumulus block with them back towards Hot AC

Yesterday, Q100 (along with the rest of the 12 Cumulus stations) added Never Gonna Leave This Bed by Maroon 5, a Hot AC track that doesn't even have a pop adds date - they also all just added Good Life by One Republic, extremely early in its chart run (whereas they waited months before adding Secrets or All The Right Moves)

Maroon 5 and One Republic are also core Top 40 artists, especially on a station like Q100. How exactly adding those two songs means they're "bringing the entire Cumulus block back to Hot AC" is beyond me.

So, to go over this again, Never Gonna Leave This Bed was being played on ONE pop station (before Q100/Cumulus added it), and it didn't have a pop adds date - until the Cumulus block added it, it was Hot AC-exclusive

And that quote was "bringing the entire Cumulus block back towards Hot AC"

Your point is worth noting because of Maroon 5 but you also leave out that Cumulus added Gaga's Judas as well. The Onerepublic is middle ground. Good pop record for Hot AC and CHR. The Cumulus will always have something of a Hot AC lean because it's in so many smaller/medium markets where they cover both sides of the format. But the Cumulus stations have come a long way in the last couple of years. So 1 pure CHR add, one pop add and one Hot AC add. Fairly balanced, yes?

I would be more concerned if we saw a significant recurrent/gold library swing. Which I checked before I started this post. Nothing there. No increases in those categories and no Matchbox Twenty added back in.

So let's call it a "fire drill." But not a "bringing the entire Cumulus block back towards HOT AC."

^By "towards Hot AC" I meant back in that direction (from pop/rhythmic) - in other words, back to the center

Didn't mean that the Cumulus stations were all the way on the Hot AC side of things

I do think Cumulus might be using Q100 (and its situation with Star 94) as a basis for programming all their other stations though - Star 94 just basically added Never Gonna Leave This Bed into moderately heavy rotation, and I have a suspicion that Q100 is trying to compete with them again

Jan Jefferies hates Star 94 with a fire that will never burn out. As long as Jan is at Cumulus, he will have one eye on Star 94.

Yes he did and was fired like 20 years ago. But the grudge burns brightly. :)

To use outdated terminology, what is Atlanta's "In Tab" for the PPM?

It's not outdated...Intab is still the term used to describe how many panelists were reporting. To answer your question...the daily average for Atlanta in March was 1,361 persons/meters.

I think it's absolutely insane that Star 94 is affecting the programming of 12 Cumulus CHRs across the country

Agreed if that were the case but as usual with this board, you jumped about 5 leaps too far. Star isn't affecting the programming of the Cumulus stations. Just like the Cumulus CHR's are not going Hot AC.

Yes it is

And for the tenth time, the Cumulus stations are moving TOWARDS Hot AC, meaning slightly away from pop/rhythmic - I feel like I've explained that post enough times already

Another interesting, and encouraging, trend is that J93.3 has nearly doubled its ratings over the past year.
Wonder what the cause is of that? Their signal hasn't changed.
Could it be due, at least in part, to getting Jerry and Sheila together back on the air?

Its Shelia and Jerry now...i wonder if the fish is a little too bland. consider each Christian AC station is stronger in its strongest coverage area. I wonder how many more listeners 93.3 will gain when they add translators to expand its coverage area. They claim they will even cover downtown Atlanta soon. Once they appear on a HD subchannel of an intown signal and go non commercial we might actually see a format war.

I'm curious to see if J93 will put up a full powered IBOC digital radio signal soon. Digital may perform much better than analog in weak signal areas and with the new power levels authorized for IBOC the digital coverage may extend much further - possibly usable out to the 54dbu contour. If so, then WVFJ could become a viable Atlanta signal for those with IBOC radios (which is practically no one.)
I checked Best Buy a few weeks ago and they have digital in dash receivers for less than $100.
I spent the last $100 in my checking account on a tank of gas and loaf of bread.........

So, today Q100, along with the entire Cumulus block added...

Train "Save Me San Francisco" (no pop adds date)
Neon Trees "Your Surrender"
Hot Chelle Rae "Tonight Tonight"

Sorry, but anyone that doesn't think they're headed back towards the Hot AC end of the spectrum is kind of wrong ::)
