MARCUS D HEADS TO THE BAY

  • Thread starter SeattleRadioPro
  • Start date

This would be the perfect time to go after Eric Powers. Clear Channel is busy tightening the belt and making him work harder with fewer resources. Would be the perfect time for CBS to give him a wad of cash and a solid, long-term contract.

From my post five days ago under the heading DON'T TAKE IT FROM ME.

March 31
As for your comments on where I used to work and on Marcus D let me give you a clue on both. Marcus D did a great job at KBKS and needed more time, six months to turn a place around give me a break. Numbers are no better now than when he got to program for six months. CBS knows that and look for Marcus to get a surprise promotion very soon. How do I know this, you just have to takeitfromme

Well boy howdy, guess this cowboy does get an occational post right ;) Congrats to Marcus and yes there will be a format change but not in Seattle. You can takeitfromme.

There is no way Eric Powers would head over to Kiss. First off, he is already a PD and last time I checked Kiss already has one. Secondly CBS will not invest in alot of money to bring in a big name.

Expect an announcement soon that goes something like this.... _________ has been working part-time and on weekends for the the past 2 years and we decided he/she was more than ready to handle pm drive or nights.

Or this announcement.... After listening to thousands of tapes, some of which were sent by talent working in a top 5 market, we decided to hire________. ________ comes to us from Fargo, ND where he or she dominated nights. We're more than confident that his/her skills will take Kiss to the next level.

TU's got it right....this station has shown it's not interested in pursuing anything more than bottom line $$....

What I'm surprised about is that they don't get even cheaper by following the "robot formula" that Sandusky has so proudly worked in this market. They could save even more bucks doing it this way.

As for the idea that KBKS is now going to take on KUBE; that's a pipe dream folks. Ain't going to happen anytime soon.

Best of luck to you Marcus....you deserve this break!

This made me laugh! Seriously more than an "lol"
Its soo true!

As far as i see it.
KISS Seattle is DEAD.... It go's beyond talent, promotions, and sales (well, everything ties back to sales one way or anouther).
Its PROGRAMING. And IMAGE

They have Crappy programing and is one of the WORST CHR's i've heard.
I give them credit to keeping all talent live, (even the overnights)
but their little "re-imaging" act only did them worse.

Like Player said, Good luck to Marcus. You deserve better!

I love how all the female targeted stations get blasted all the time on here!! Movin... STAR... KISS ... none of you old men listen to anyone of these stations!!! haha!!!! Best of luck to Marcus D. It seems that in a "everyone hates KISS" forum, no one has a bad thing to say about the guy. He deserves it. As far as not spending money on personnel, didn't they bring Steve Rivers in??? He can't be cheap.

But.....but......but......everyone on this board tells me that having live announcers will make everything better.

What is this "robot formula" you cite?

Kiss does not need to de-throne KUBE in order to be successful in Seattle. In fact, when Marcus was PD, Kiss was trying to take on KUBE and in turn got their lunch handed to them.

Hiring Powers wouldn't be the cure-all for Kiss, but weakening the competition would be a start. Not to mention that KUBE has a huge morning show, Kiss does not. That's a major problem.

And having a local PD in town to train a foreign morning show about Seattle would be big.

One of the robots is actually right across the room at Jack!

The one I was thinking about was KQMV, which is seemingly and mostly robot-like in it's sweepers, air talent talk and most important: programming approach. In short, a very predictable, repetitive loop of programming that recycles itself after only an hour or two! Another example might be KWJZ, although they do a much better job of not sounding quite as bad and mixing it up some.

Radioplayer is right about Jack. Sure each Jack around the country that is jockless sound different because some songs test better in markets than others. But if you listen closely to the Jack station here in Seattle and then listen to others around the countries, they are the same exact canned station. In most cases, alot of the imaging is shared between many markets.

But let's get back to the topic at hand. I'm wondering if any of the recently laid off jocks at KNDD would be a good fit to fill a slot over at KISS?

The pre-packaged nature is part of Jack's appeal to GMs. You buy the license from Sparknet, you get what you ask for.

The difference is in the localisms. Seattle Jack sounds a lot better than other Jack stations around the country. And as I said before, Jack in Seattle sounds more local than a couple of live stations in Seattle, including Movin', a station that does have live jocks.

And let's get real about what you hear here in Seattle versus in other markets. So what if Jack here has the same one-liner in a sweeper as the Jack in Dallas has? Does the guy driving into or from work REALLY care that the same liner was used in Dallas or L.A. earlier in the day?

You know, they actually play the SAME version of Takin' Care of Business in Dallas as they do in Seattle. Should sharing those songs be a problem too?

What's the difference in being "robotic" and consistent?

Obviously the listener can't tell but what I was trying to say is what you hear here in Seattle is the same exact pre-packaged format you hear everywhere else. And I'd like to hear what you think they do in your opinion that makes them sound local? All I've ever noticed is an ocassional promo on the happenings around town and their voice guy mentioning the word Seattle every now and then. If stations in town are doing less than that as you claim, I really feel sorry for them.

Just read an interview about JACK/L.A. ... they dedicate one person who writes the sweepers AND processes phone calls FOR EACH DAYPART on the station. They weren't trying to eliminate jocks/talent expense, and they claim they make a very concentrated effort to make the station sound vibrant and new. Have not really heard of other markets that do that (except Canada where JACK has always been mostly live).

How many people work in the programming department at JACK? I would imagine a PD, an APD and then a full staff of producers/board-ops. Similar to the set-up at JACK in LA?

btw- Boy has this topic gone way off track! =)

Yeah! Lets get back on track and speculate who is gonna get KISS nights. (since they posted the job as nights)

One of the exiled End jocks? A part timer? The fired morning guy from MOViN? A monkey?

;D
