her website is not "promoting herself" it's a freaking online resume. If I were her employer, I'd be asking why she feels the need to put forth that much effort into her next gig instead of concentrating on the one she has.

I'd hate to see your resume...What do you think promoting yourself means?? Duh It is a resume of what you've accomplished and you're abilities! And promoting yourself doesn't mean NOT doing your job well. Many people are quite capable of doing multiple things in addition to their job, Maria is one of them. Don't let envy stand in the way, Take a lesson! Seems like you have a serious issue with successful women but you're not alone in that thought, many people share that same problem with you in this business.

How the hell do you get anything relating to gender out of what I said? Be careful before you through unfounded accusations around. The only person with a serious issue is YOU - getting defensive and putting words into other people's mouths.

My problem is not that she has a GOOD or DIVERSE resume - it's that she's publicly pushing it while currently employed. My comment is simply that if I was paying someone a salary, I would be curious as to why they felt the need to be publicly searching for something bigger and better. Her site does nothing to bring listeners or revenue to her radio station, which is what she is paid to do. If I were her employer, I would ask what her priority is - to work for our radio station or to pursue her other avenues?

I see your point. She should use all of her "assets" to produce listeners/revenue for Radio One, the "founder of the feast."
Give her some time to settle in - the job is brand new. If she sees that ATL is going to work out then she may focus more on the task at hand.
I heard a break the other day. She's good......but she ain't no Porche Foxx! Porche is going to be one hard cookie to take down.

I'm not defensive but it seems as if you are! I wasn't putting words in anyone's mouth, it's my opinion and everyone has 'em...like it or not.
Having an active website and promoting yourself isn't necessarily searching for the next gig. I know plenty of talent in radio that do exactly what Maria does in addition to their radio gig. They freelance doing voiceover work for tv, radio, own their own business etc. Most companies are ok with it as long as you are upfront about it, that there is no conflict of interest and you do your job well. The company you work for can't tell you what to do with your free time...period! So if it doesn't interfer with your job at the station and you own another business, you freelance doing other stuff ....whatever....t's perfectly ok.

The company you work for can't tell you what to do with your free time...period! So if it doesn't interfer with your job at the station and you own another business, you freelance doing other stuff ....whatever....t's perfectly ok.

That's very untrue. I don't know if this particular talent is under contract, but I've written and worked under plenty of them - and they can be VERY specific as to what outside employment you can seek, and they can require written approval of it. A company can very EASILY have some say in what happens in your free time. In a high-profile media job, it's very common for there to be very specific limitations on "other" jobs.

Try being an on-air personality and doing endorsements for a sex toy shop like Inserection, or taking part in a "legalize drugs" rally, or even voicing a commercial for a competitor of one of your stations key advertisers. Any one of those situations could cause an employer to say "stop doing this or you will be in breech of contract." I've seen it happen.

As I stated before as long as you are upfront about what you do most companies will be ok with it. Although, I've worked for stations with and w/o a contract and not one of those stations even cared to ask what I was doing with my free time. They knew I did outside work and never mentioned a thing about it! Don't go to extreme examples just to prove your point valid. Most talent seek legit work such as freelance vo for tv other market radio stations or have their own business which does not conflict with your on-air employment or the company. Companies are ok with it and you have the right to do so. Apparently, the company Maria works for is aware of her outside work and is ok with it so I say kudos to her.

Hate to break it to ya shawty but it won't! It became more about the issue of doing outside work than actually Maria herself. It's people just responding to try and prove their points.
