Marie Pulled from Fall Schedules

You mean the way "Dr." Phil has improved our lives so much?

Nope. I mean in a way that an actual medical show would improve our lives so much. Dr. OZ would actually be a useful show. I'll give you an example. America's Most Wanted = Useful. Jerry Springer show = Not useful.

Now... of course I love my share of useless programming just as much as anyone else. But I don't think Marie Osmond would have been anything special that you couldn't already get from any other daytime talk show. In other words it probably would have been pretty bland.

Our CBS is picking up Wendy Williams this fall, WCSC. She's replacing Tyra Banks, Tyra, amazingly, was #1 in her timeslot, 9am on Channel 5, but in my market, CBS has such a huge viewership in our area, they could put their worst show on, and still be #1 (even the CBS Evening News is #1 here).

WCSC is not picking it up, however, until September. Marie Osmond is a good lady, and would have a good show, but the stations want to keep a good audience.

Dr. Oz is airing this fall on WCIV, our ABC.

Who is Marie in this case?

Osmond.
I think the Osmonds now outrank Tim Conway in failed tv programming ventures, between Donny's Pyramid failure, to the joint talk show, to this show, etc. Hey Tim, "Does your license plate still say "13 weeks"?

The Osmonds are a victim of "sea change" moreso than a "poor economy" and if Tim Conway were to decide to get back into TV in this day and age, sadly it would be the same thing.
WHAT do you mean IF??? I'll have you know Conway is seen my millions in the role of Barnacle Boy on "Spongebob Squarepants"!

See??

If it's the same Wendy Williams Show I've seen minutes of, WCSC might have just put their worst show on. :D

They pretty much had to replace Tyra by default; that show's moving exclusively to CW as part of their former Kids' WB/Daytime WB/Daytime CW block.

Well, based on her recent ratings, that might change!

Did anyone think that Wendy Williams would fly in places like Salt Lake City or Des Moines? The same can be said about what Marie would have pulled in New York City. Unfortunately, that's the way things work in entertainment these days. Cable has fragmented the audience so much that a syndicated program has to have mass appeal (Oprah before she went political comes to mind) or it will fail. Even Ellen DeGeneres won over mid-America to an extent.

Good question !!! Makes me wonder if sometime in the future we may see the return of the "regional" talk show? Similar to what the late Bob Braun did for years out of Cincinatti.

Now I know a lot of stations no longer offer local talk but there are still a number of those that are still around. Tom "The Troubleshooter" Martino recently launched a TV show out of Denver's KDVR/KWGN, perhaps a show like that could be syndicated to other regional markets like Colorado Springs, Grand Junction, Salt Lake City, Billings, Kansas City and Albuquerque. Then there is Buffalo's..well "AM Buffalo", if WKBW would change the name of that show to "The Linda Pellegrino & Jon Summers Show" ( the hosts ) and decides to syndicate it and make it "less Buffalo", I can see stations in Erie, Rochester, Syracuse, perhpas maybe even Pittsbugh, Cleveland and Youngstown picking it up.

Just a thought.

That Bob Braun show was pretty incredible. I remember watching it when I was a kid during the summers. Sometimes his guests were better than the ones on Mike Douglas or Merv Griffin. I believed at one time Braun's show appeared in all the Crosley TV markets including Cincy, Dayton, and Indianapolis, in addition to Louisville and I believe Lexington and Huntington.

Perhaps one can come to the same conclusion on Rosie O'Donnell (before she went political)...

Personally I think the last thing TV needs is another talk show. God knows we have enough.
So it's no big loss to me if Marie Osmond's talk show is deep sixed.

If they can replace the 72-year-old GUIDING LIGHT with THE NEW LET'S MAKE A DEAL starring Wayne Brady, what's the difference in canning Marie Osmond's talk show for an infomercial?

Let her be the new OxiClean spokesperson. "...and I lost 60 pounds with OxiClean!"

Sad to say, it seems Oxiclean wasn't the only white powder in Billy Mays' life.

Staying on topic here: Does anyone know if a station list for Marie Osmond's pulled talk show ever listed? I'm just curious if any station in the Quad Cities was supposed to air her show....
