Mark Christopher filling in for Ankarlo

Darrell Ankarlo is out with back surgery and Mark Christopher is filling in for him today and tomorrow on KLIF in Dallas. Too bad Mark is out at WLAC and we hope he gets noticed during this temporary gig.

On a side note, did WLAC believe that if they didn't retain Glen Beck after Steve Gill's weekday show premiered, by airing Beck in Mark's former spot, that WWTN was going to snap Beck up?

Jetfli? What's your take on the new lineup? It's "interesting" to see Beck thrown into the wasteland of
nights, but who else could they have chosen? I guess the contract with Kevin Wall prevents him from
being thrown out by Gill. It's not a bad lineup, it's just sort of interesting, especially an 8-11 shift.
Oh well, will this help the ratings? I haven't studied the numbers on Talk in a couple of years, so forgive
me for being in the dark on this one. Then again, I am always in the dark.

8-11 is 9-12 Eastern, where Gill is heard on 5 stations, and that makes the hours seem more legitimate. However, if you stop to think that Rush Limbaugh comes on at 11 Central, 12 Eastern, it makes it a little more obvious as to what hours he's syndicating to around the state. Gill wouldn't have as much of a chance to be picked up by other stations if he were in an earlier timeslot.

As for WLAC, it always makes me sad when a station decides to replace live, local programming, and even moreso when the replacement is on delay. Mark Christopher is no Glen Beck, but Mark is good enough, and when you include live and local, give me Mark. I mean, here's a clear channel (lower case "c"s) blowtouch you can hear over half the country at night and you can't offer unique programming? C'mon!

Which brings me back to my question... did 1510 retain Beck's program because they were afraid WWTN was going to snap it up?

Oh, and will this help the ratings? The best I can answer for now is "yes" for mornings, but the jury's out on nights.

being heard in 28 states (which is a stretch) brings in ZERO advertising revenue...why would
Hippodrome Nissan (ex) care if they're heard in south florida?

Just wondering what stations in what cities is Steve Gill on? I like the idea of statewide syndication instead of Nation wide. Issues can be discussed which are not on a National talkshow level. I don't think Rush, Sean, or the G man would ever discuss Tenncare, Cover Tennessee, or Ford vs. Corker. I hope this is sucessful,

With the exception of WLAC in Nashville and WKVL in Knoxville, none of those stations have much of a coverage area. Wato in Oak Ridge, WGAP in Maryville, WLOD in Loudon and WRWB in Harrogate are such low powered station, you would be extremely lucky to pick up their signal if you are more than a couple of miles away from their transmitter.

You have to give Gill credit for making more comebacks than even Phil Valentine and George Plaster combined at this point.
Makes you wonder. I have no real knowledge of his ability, talent, etc. Any thoughts on his success or overall performance?

jwk1979 doesn't know much about some AM signals. My 500 watt AM is one of the best small market signals in the state. Know your facts before you post.

What station are you refering to? I grew up in Knoxville and I know the limitations of some of the stations in the Knoxville area. You would lose the WATO signal once you got to Karns, you couldn't pick-up WGAP in Alcoa and you lost WLOD once you left Lenoir City. Unless those signals have improved over the last ten years, I KNOW MY FACTS!!!

When you buy the time from WLAC, they let you talk on it.

Yeah, for 470 Watts.. that signal looks like it does pretty well.

I've never personally "field tested" it.. but I should check with some friends i nthe area.

Okay, Nashsound, maybe you can answer this, in your honest opinion, is it a good move to put Gill in place of Beck?
I admit above, I just don't get the alure of Gill. If you'd rather not, say, I respect that, too. Looking for insight, not
a Gill-bash on his politics or as a person. Just how will this help WLAC?

I was in East Tennessee for the majority of this week on business and tried listening to several of the stations that Steve Gill was on. 4 of the station, WKVL in Knoxville, WLOD in Loudon, WGAP in Maryville and WATO in Oak Ridge are all owned by the Horne Radio network and basically simlucast the SAME PROGRAMMING on ALL FOUR STATIONS, with the exception of WKVL, on very weak signals. I was in Harrogate on Thursday and COULD NOT PICK UP THE SIGNAL for WRWB.

On Friday, when listening to Steve Gill on WKVL, I also noticed that ALL the comercials that were being played were local Nashville COMMERCIALS and not commercials for Knoxville businesses or local political ads that affect the Knoxville voters, but Mae Beavers commercials.

Going back to kinda the original topic, Mark is filling in this afternoon on KDKA.

This after several afternoons of filling in at KLIF. Certainly getting a lot of high-profile, major market exposure.
