Markets where CC does not call its CHR stations "Kiss FM"

New York's WHTZ is "Z100." Good thing Emmis sold the intellectual rights of the former WRKS to ICBC to keep CC from renaming this station to "100.3 Kiss FM." (NY is now the only top 5 radio market to have no "Kiss.")

There was no chance of CC ever renaming Z100.

Did Clear Channel rename any stations it bought out (that were already CHRs at the time)? I can't think of any
KHFI Austin was re-christened as "Kiss FM" in 2001 by CC.

I'm glad CC has moved away from using the "Kiss" name on their new stations, personally - I could understand using it on a station with calls like KIIS, but it's really kind of a weird name...JMO
KIIS being pronounced like KISS has been a coincidence since the callsign was based on the fact that it originated on AM. So IIS was 115 (as in 1150 AM)

CC launched a new Kiss FM just this past September (Omaha)...

Wild 94.9-SF

Actually, KYLD is a Rhythmic Top 40. KISQ, its sister station, is Gold-based Rhythmic AC and uses the "98.1 Kiss-FM" branding.
KYLD is a whole different branding/format platform as "WiLD" is more associated with rhythmics under CC.

...Except for WLDI/West Palm Beach. They're Top 40/CHR.

I think they predate all of the Rhythmic "Wild"'s

WRVQ/Richmond has been "Q94" for over 40 years. In a rare move of common sense, CC has never (yet) tried to change the moniker....

So, no CC Kiss in RVA, though Radio One's Urban AC simulcast (105.7/99.3) is positioned that way.....

KYLD (1992) came before WLDI (1998).

A few more (forgive me if some of these have been mentioned already):

SL100 Laurel, MS
102.5 WFMF Baton Rouge
103.7 the Q Birmingham
K94.5 Shreveport
94.1ZBQ Tuscaloosa
Q101 Meridian, MS (when it was under Clear Channel; name never changed to Kiss)

WKSS in Hartford is interesting because they were actually still Beautiful Music. They went by KISS 96 WKSS. It wasn't until a couple years later that they went Top 40 KISS 95.7

A couple years? I remember as a kid (10?) they were "96 Kiss" and that would be about 1976 or 1977 (wikipedia says '77), why don't I just paste it here....

This station started in 1960 when "WMMW-FM" began broadcasting from West Peak in Meriden, Connecticut, covering much of the central Connecticut area. In 1962 the call letters became WBMI. It's call letters referred to its parent company name, "Business Music, Inc." It was one of the first stations to broadcast in stereo in 1962 after the FCC standardized the multiplex system. In 1977, WBMI-FM adopted a Beautiful Music format, changed its callsign to WKSS and used the slogan "96 KISS". The station was lowly rated and was not making a lot of money, when in October, 1984, programmer Bob Mitchell, who would later go on to become an influential radio consultant, flipped the station to Top 40 as "95.7 Kiss FM"

K94.5 Shreveport is no longer owned by Clear Channel. Not sure if this one has been mentioned yet but WKEE KEE100 in Huntington WV is a "Non Kiss" CC CHR

Already posted this, but here's the order for Kiss CHRs...
(1)KIIS/Los Angeles (1975)
(2)WXKS/Boston (1979)
(3)WYKS/Gainesville FL (1981)
(4)WKSS/Hartford (1984)
(5)WKSE/Buffalo NY (1985)
(6)KHKS/Dallas (1992)
(7)WNKS/Charlotte (1996)

Then, in 1997-2001 or so, Clear Channel started using the Kiss brand name to start up a slew of new CHRs (Seattle, Chicago, Cincinnati, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Albany, Milwaukee, etc.)

Dallas' original Kiss was KTKS from 1984-87 (also at 106.1). It was replaced in 1987 by KOAI "The Oasis", and returned in 1992. "The Oasis" moved to 107.5 and ran there until 2007. It continues under 107.5 HD-2 in Dallas.

Correction, KBKS Seattle didn't come under CC's ownership until 2010 and they had been using the Kiss name since 1996, originally as a rhythmic AC before shifting to CHR in 1997.

When Clear Channel bought CHR Z97 in Rutland, VT, they changed it over to KISS-FM. When Pamal bought it in 2006, it reverted to Z97, and later Z97.1
