Massacre at Eagle 106.7

I just read where many on-air people were fired at Eagle and Kicks. Among the axed were Rubarb and Steve Mitchell. What format will 106.7 become? The Great Atlanta Radio Shake-Ups continue.........

Thank you for the link, Johnny. That's where I got the info.

Rhubarb Jones? Seriously? I'm a GA native and I grew up with his voice in my house. This is so #%&@ed up. :(

I hope they do turn Eagle back to talk. Maybe they can bring back Ferrell and that idiot from Tampa, "Todd Schnitt." You stay classy, Citadel.

What an absolute blood bath. This is just crazy!

Radio just f'ing sucks sometimes.

This looks like a case of the corporate bean counters running the show without thinking about will happen.

If they're going to flip Eagle's format, blowing out the staff makes sense.

But how much money is firing Wiley Rose and Scotty O'Brien from Kicks going to save them? Didn't Wiley come from Macon?

Kicks has competition now, and Kicks has been winning. If Kicks starts voicetracking, how long will they be winning? And if The Bull's ratings increase while Kicks' numbers decrease, what will happen? Kicks revenue will go down, resulting in more cuts. Bean counters don't seem to get this.

With Kristen Gates out and Dallas McCade spared, I'm wondering if Dallas will be paired with Cadillac in the morning. Although I thought Kristen was very effective, everyone seems to love Dallas so that could be a good move.

Wow. Just ... wow.

It doesn't happen often, but at the moment I believe I'm speechless.

A few obvious points as to how stupid radio management is now:

1. This is usually what CC does...blow up a good station and give your competition a gift.
2. How much are they saving vs. how much will they lose in listenership?
3. Who in their right mind will work in radio in the future when corporate owners treat their staffs like this?
4. So what do we get now...more voicetracking?

I'm glad I got out of this business....

You know, I just interviewed for a job outside of the business yesterday, and she was asking me why I was since I have nearly ten years in radio and television.....Well, there you go! This is a prime example. I love radio, and still dream of having a full time radio job where I can pay my modest bills and still have enough money to put food on the table. But, right now it's difficult to even get a part-time, minimum wage gig in this industry!

To all of those wonderful people with whom I had the absolute joy of working with, my heart goes out to you in this time of uncertainty. Remember that you all were awesome at what you did and can do again...if the industry will allow it. If not, do what I did and run for the hills. Sadly, as long as any radio station is owned by the idiots on Wall St., radio doesn't have much of a fighting chance.

What I've noticed is that ALL radio broadcasting companies are losing money. And I do mean ALL! Check their stocks. Over the last 10 years what have they all done...DROPPED IN PRICE! So, that should tell you something.

Radio is an industry I hold very dear and the folks who were let go today from Kicks and Eagle are some of the nicest and most professional radio people I've ever known. If you are really mad about the firings as I am, sell your radio stock. That will send the biggest message of all...STOP DOING WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND BE BROADCASTERS AGAIN!

Wow, I'm dizzy. ???

Sad day for those people...most of whom didn't deserve what they got. I had heard rumblings of a possible flip at Eagle, but I certainly hope they don't become a talk station. I think we're pretty much covered there already.

"The radio business is cruel and shallow money pit, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs. There is also a negative side."
Hunter S. Thompson, paraphrased

"The bullet was administered gracefully..."

Citadel was not equipped to support of stations of these sizes. The was going to happen sooner than later. Watch out LA, SF and Dallas.

Time for The Bull to act quickly on this. Dump the afternoon replay of Cledus and hire someone from Kicks to do drive time. Time to put the nail in the coffin.
