Massacre at Eagle 106.7

Agreed, it would be smart for the Bull to move to a live jock in the afternoon now. My, how things have changed in just mere moments. My congrats to the people at the Bull. You have just been handed a gift courtesy of Farid Suleman.

Agreed. A gift with a big red bow on the top. If CC has half a brain (which is still in question) they'll ram a hose down Kicks's throat (to use a Ray Kroc metaphor). Eagle's going to be out of the picture shortly, anyway.

I know that Citadel is hurting moneywise (I still own some stock from when Disney spun most of their stations off, should have sold it long time ago), but it takes money to make money.

Eagle's gonna flip-to what, I have no idea. Rodney says oldies or talk; IMNSHO enough has been said about oldies on this board to really add anything new, although oldies can be run more cheaply than other formats as it is more amenable to VT (consider how many syndicated oldies shows are out there). I don't think talk is a starter (remember Real Radio 105.3?); ATL has a full plate of talk.

I hereby step up to the AYCE crow buffet about what I said on the Moby thread about Kicks/Eagle not going anywhere, and Bull or WNGC being the odd man out. Now it looks like the reverse.

I wonder if Cumulus could pick up some stations on the cheap...although it would probably be in Cumulus's advantage to hold out as long as possible to get the best price. There may be a glut of ATL stations on the market between Lincoln and Citadel, and CC, Cox, and R1 are likely capped out (keep me honest here). The only other logical buyer would be CBS.

I was just reading that other thread about Moby/WNGC and all that....

- WNGC is not going anywhere. The folks at Southern knew how to run off the Holders and cash in on their investment.
- If Moby's show only costs them $18,000/yr to put on, he still makes more money for them by selling his show cheaper than their other, Cox-grown product in Ala.
It will be interesting to see what happens, but 'NGC is NOT an Atlanta product, nor is it sold that way. On the east side of GA, once out of Atlanta, they are pretty much it (the cluster).
- Was any office/promo/engineering staff shown the door along with the air talent?

Seeing this makes me glad I am out of the biz also. I like not having to get up at 4am to do a remote in 30 degree weather, to give up days off when someone sells a Thanksgiving remote, to not make enough to afford a house payment.

Vic Sansone must have seen writing on the wall somewhere and got out ahead of being thrown out in job cuts...

WSB-TV has picked up the story on its website

http://www.wsbtv.com/entertainment/15450808/detail.html

This is unusual since local TV usually ignores most radio stories (WXIA picked up the Steve and Vikki to B98.5 story last week because the WXIA morning news team are close friends with Steve and Vikki, but no one talked about the 99X/Q100/Rock 100.5 flip).

It is a tragedy that a respected radio host who has served his community in many more ways then can be counted has been tossed out into the street after 22 years. I hope Rhubarb and everyone else who lost their job today has success in finding a new job soon.

I hate to see it. Rhubarb and Jim Vann Should have been able to step down when they wanted to or
atleast give them a chance to go out gracefully. Rhubarb has always been great to me when I have asked for advice about the radio business and I value that. I also hate to see Southern Fried Saturdat Nights and Country Gold go as well. Those shows
made driving to work so much better. Steve Mitchell is a class act as well.

When you examine the bare facts I don't guess this blood-letting was too much of a surprise. In the last 52 weeks Citadel stocks were over $11 --- they closed today at $1.10. Without the deep pockets that Disney has, I guess they felt like they had to do something before they hemorrhaged to death. I wonder if this was
repeated in any of their other markets?

What a loss. Rhubarb was 106.7. The station was not as good when SS Steve was there and seemed to be headed downward,
but had a chance to get back to "country great" with Rhubard and Dallas in that order. More Dallas and less Rhubarb just did not work.
We all have favorites and choices and I will tune in to the first station that grabs Rhubarb and I am done with 106.7.

WJZW Washington flipped formats to True Oldies. Staffers were fired in New York and Chicago.

WPLJ/New York's revenues were down 50% (cut in half). Can anyone say "Chapter 11 Bankruptcy"?

I hate seeing so many people lose their jobs. That really sucks. But from a listener standpoint I'll certainly welcome the option to hear something other than a Top 40 country station. I love, and I mean, LOVE artists like Dwight Yoakam, The Mavericks, Johnny Cash, Buddy Miller, Emmylou Harris and Lucinda Williams, but despise most of the fluff that gets passed off as popular country these days.

OMG, thank you for making me laugh out loud this morning...first good laugh in the last 20 hours! You're right, Littlejohn...the bullet was administered gracefully. :-\

For those of you asking about other staffers, Kevin O'Brien is still there in a production role. Wayne No Offense is not still there...he will do great no matter where he lands because he's just "that guy" you want around. Johnny Gray left the stations nearly 2 years ago and is semi-happily retired. Thanks for caring...

Technology, wheather it be voice tracking or syndication, (and now HD slowly) is changing the face of radio...and as the economy goes, so goes radio.
(No huge car dealer profits, real estate, banking, restaurants - no radio ads) MORE dependancy on technology.

WILL HD Radio take hold? I dunno"
But every FM station has 2 HD's - so the pie keeps getting cut into smaller slices.

Your Ole Pal Moby got his own pie. It may be a little pie now, but how many signals do you think he has a shot at over the next 5 yrs?
Maybe 20-50-100? Yeah Baby.

I hope Mr Moby inks a deal with Cox to stay in Athens and grow HIS company like the Rick and Bubba show and many others.
He really is a class act. And I believe "some" of what people don't like about him, may be an act. That's called "show biz".

Rhubarb is one of the smartest "old rats in the barn" you will ever meet. He's taken more heat and criticism over the last 20 plus years
and not only endured, but thrived. I've seen people kick mud on his back as he was reaching out to help others with Leukemia, and he didn't even notice
his Harley jacket was dirty.

I believe he has TONS of options...but
how cool would it be for him to broadcast from MOBY's studios in Roswell, every afternoon on 40 or 50 "small town" stations?

Moby IS a class act (and is your ole pal) .....until you quit asking him to sing Amazing Grace!
