MASSIVE LAYOFFS AT CLEAR CHANNEL THIS TUESDAY!

westfield60 said:
Well Tuesday came and went and there certainly was a blood bath in other cities, namely San Diego but what about here in LA. The absolutely horrible Bryan Suits and that crosseyed Kennedy is still on the air, so did Los Angeles escape the guillotine? I was hoping they would be axed and KFI would bring back Phil Hendrie.

Apparently the buzzsaw ran through KLAC.

The Program Directors of MyFm/KBIG and Hot 92/KHHT, Chachi Denes and R Dub have left the building. I'm hearing several sales people at KOST are gone and there are more AE's and people from Promotions and Programming said to have been terminated as well from various stations in the cluster. The national number quoted by John Hogan was about 1850 people from CC Radio and Outdoor are longer employed by Clear Channel.

I'll expand on my post.

KFI/KTLK/KLAC OM BILL LALLY is out.

Tony Bruno's producer and screener at KLAC, TIM CATES and MISSAK TOHKMANIAN, are both out. The show has been dropped in favor of J.T. The Brick.

MYCHAL THOMPSON, who has been part of the Loose Cannons show, is out.

The other Loose Cannons hosts, Steve Hartman and Vic Jacobs, will join Chris Myers on Fox Sports Radio's "The Drive," at Premiere Radio. The new program will be aired on KLAC.

Finally, Petros Papadakis and Matt “Money” Smith are joining Premiere Radio, and will be syndicated via Fox Sports Radio in the timeslot they're in now, ousting Andrew Siciliano.

This will effectively turn KLAC into a 24/7 Fox Sports Radio affiliate, and is basically now the flagship station. There is now zero locality on KLAC.

Don Martin becomes the head of both Fox Sports Radio and KLAC. Tony Bruno,Mychael Thompson, Tim Cates are all gone! Ben Maller and Karen Kay are gone from Fox Sports Radio.. Sad day to see so many good people out of work. No word on Issac Lowenkrawn and Joe Grande on the weekend side but I assume they are out as well. I have a feeling this year is going to be even worse than 08. Good luck Pres. Obama because this country is in horrible shape with so many people getting laid off! KLAC is now all syndication and the only local content will be on KSPN and KLAA (830)

It was a sad day for alot of people formerly of the CC empire. Seeing around 10% of your total workforce pinkslipped due to idiot managment and a mantra of voicetracking/syndie is the clear and present danger in this business. For all the folks who were dismissed either on the mic or behind the scenes, I feel for them and I have a feeling most will bounce back. Im thinking about doing this weeks show on the CC cluster-f (see sig below for link), because it needs to be said....

When you say that "I have a feeling most will bounce back". How is that possible? where are the new jobs that can absorb these people? I don't remember it ever being this bad

Does anybody listen to KLAA? With nearly a zero rating and cume so low that you put a 10khz tone on and get a larger audience, it isn't even worth mentioning.

I agree but the station is owned by Artie Moreno and the Angels and it's basically the only local sports talk left in town.

Well, now we know what Ziegler thinks.

KLAA is one of six AM presets in my car and every once in a while I'll tune in to see what Roger Lodge and Dave Smith are talking about. The station lost 2/3rds of its audience after the Angels' season. And the major complaint on the Angels' Fan Forum is the bad signal in western LA, SF Valley and Ventura County. BTW does anyone even listen to hockey games on radio?

The thing about KLAA is that is comes in crystal clear in OC, Northern LA County and the Inland Empire. KSPN cannot be heard in the I.E. at night and even though they don't belong to that market, the fact is they will have the Lakers in the fall and they will be many angry Lakers fans in the Inland Empire if they don't boost their signal. KLAA's signal is not great, but they can be heard by their target audience which is Angels fans in Orange County.

KCAQ, Q104.7 in Oxnard which isn't an L.A. station, in the L.A. ratings has a higher cume than KLAA http://www.radio-info.com/site/markets/grid/los-angeles . KLAC and KSPN have cumes of 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 times the size of KLAA. A 0.1 rating means nobody is listening. That's pathetic for the home of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. But what do you expect from a station that is run by former billboard execs who know nada about radio?

So true: when you now have radio stations that are "live" in one daypart at best and so many stations being turned into nothing more than repeaters for syndicated programs, you're not going to see too many ads saying, "send aircheck and resume to...."

It is hard to fathom how KLAC could be hit with massive cuts and yet Vick the Brick still has a job. I have never seen someone ride so much schtick and such little talent to such a long career in both TV and radio. It is astounding. He isn't even significantly involved in the new program that takes the place of the "Loose Canons", which of course has always been the radio platform for Steve Hartman and whoever the sidekick(s) du jour is.

Oddly enough, the pairing of Hartman with Chris Meyers, which was obviously a decision made on the fly in a corporate boardroom, actually made for a better show. I could actually hear what each person was saying without them shouting over each other like in the past. This may come as a shock to Hartman but screaming radio is not good radio. The show was 4 hours long, there was plenty of time for each person to have their say, even VTB. The screamfest just encouraged me to turn them off, which I used to do with regularity. The new show gets another shot.

Score one (and only one) for the suits.

Why doesn't KSPN's signal cover the IE? Isn't their signal still a 50,000 watt beast that covers a huge chunk of the entire Southwest?

KSPN has a daytime non-directional 50kw but at night they reduce to 10kw with a directional pattern away from the IE.
