Matchbox 20 is responsible for the decline of rock and roll. Thank goodness for the Detroit Cobras and the White Stripes!

Matchbbox 20 has nothing to do with the decline of rock and roll. You don't even hear them on rock or alternative stations unlike The White Stripes. Matchbox 20 is more on the pop side of things.
______________

Aren't they also responsible for the decline of Western civilization? That damn Rob Thomas, he probably even knows where Bin Laden is hiding!

Way back in the days of Yourself Or Someone Like You, their singles were played on Alternative Radio very frequently, as well as Active Rock. By the time Mad Season came out, they were pushed as a Hot AC / CHR act instead.

Agreed. Their dull pop/rock sound represented a sea change in the music industry - after they came out, radio stations lost sight of what the term Alternative meant and started programming all over the place, resulting in the loss of listeners over time.

However, I do think a good part of the blame should also go to Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock. Why the heck were these acts ever played on Alternative to begin with? Kid Rock's sound leaned more toward old-school arena rock with rhyming over it, and Limp Bizkit were just a bunch of dumb Neanderthals. Both acts have absolutely nothing to do with the roots or the future of Alternative, and while some stations might have received their quick fix ratings, they eventually dropped and lost a lot of listeners in the process by playing these acts. I also think that these acts might have chased some Active Rock listeners away because of the rapping and the complete and utter lack of intelligence to be found in their material.

I don't think MB20 has anything to do with the decline of rock & roll. To me, I think Nickelback is far worse than Matchbox 20 (no offense to Nickeback fans).
______________
