Agreed. Their dull pop/rock sound represented a sea change in the music industry - after they came out, radio stations lost sight of what the term Alternative meant and started programming all over the place, resulting in the loss of listeners over time.</P>
However, I do think a good part of the blame should also go to Limp Bizkit and Kid Rock. Why the heck were these acts ever played on Alternative to begin with? Kid Rock's sound leaned more toward old-school arena rock with rhyming over it, and Limp Bizkit were just a bunch of dumb Neanderthals. Both acts have absolutely nothing to do with the roots or the future of Alternative, and while some stations might have received their quick fix ratings, they eventually dropped and lost a lot of listeners in the process by playing these acts. I also think that these acts might have chased some Active Rock listeners away because of the rapping and the complete and utter lack of intelligence to be found in their material.</P>
