Maxwell fired?

I didn't get a chance to hear Rover this morning but a friend told me Rover has audio of him being a racist, ripping management apart, and trying to get Chunk fired? Did he end up playing them? Did Maxwell get fired once in for all? You know my Maxwell stance but if this is true, this doesn't look good for Maxwell.

YAWN.

Haven't bothered to listen to Rover since 2009, and quite frankly, I don't care what in the world he says. He's pulled this same stunt against Maxwell and Triv before so many times that it doesn't even register. He'll pull the same phoney-baloney stunts against Booms in a few months, just you watch.

It's just the same ol' pointless blather from a one-trick-pony so desperate for any attention. He knows - as does practically everyone else in this entire market - that CBS Radio is simply running out the clock with Maxwell's contract for a multitude of reasons. That doesn't stop Rover from his vapid desire to steal the scene and claim on-air, "HA! I was the one that got Maxwell fired!," when it was, and never will be, the case.

Pathetic. Especially for a show that is so blatantly scripted and so fake. One would think that Rover and his sycophants would have plenty other material to act out...

There are two HUGE problems with your statement.

One, you didn't hear the show. So you didn't get to hear the ACTUAL audio that Rover played. I, however, was in my car on my way to work when I tuned in and heard it. He does have the audio and he played a sample to prove it. Granted, it wasn't the racist audio that Becker discussed in an earlier post, but he did say that he had audio of Maxwell talking off the air that was recorded by a phone caller, then played it to prove so. Now, if you knew anything about radio Nathan (not college, we are talking commercial radio) then you would know that the business that BOTH Rover and Maxwell are in, is the teasing business. Why give up everything, when you could continue to tease a subjet, which causes people to continue to listening, which increases your TSL.

Two, if Maxwell does get fired (or his contract not renewed) wouldn't that be because of his ratings (or lack thereof)? And, who competes directly against Maxwell? Rover. So if Rover has the ratings, and Maxwell doesn't, doesn't that mean that Rover, in essence, did get Maxwell fired?

I have no dog in this fight, unlike some (Nathan, who obviously seems to have a problem with the Rover show and it's crew), however, I do know entertaining radio when I heard it, and this mornings broadcast made me want to continue listening.

Say what you will about both shows, but one promised news and delivered. The other promised ratings and still hasn't.

nathan has his panties in a bunch

So? Your one-trick-pony "I love Rover, hate all things Maxwell" act is boring, mindless and tiresome. It's so easy to dissect, lampoon and discredit that it isn't even funny anymore.

Wake me up when Shane French actually does something productive. I'll be asleep for a while... ;D

Game. Set. Match.

Becker, you lose.

And if someone is taping a phone call to a talk show, that person either has no life or is working for the competition. Heck, even Media Matters operates with more dignity!

Oooooooooooooooh. I'm scared. NOT.

And I've had several years experience in commercial radio. I deliberately choose to downplay it. XD

Exactly. That's why Rover's show is scripted in advance. With supporting characters Duji, Dieter, Dumb and Charley all having unrealistic and unlikeable roles, poorly designed and not playing to the strengths of the actors.

But the charade keeps people listening, and more's the pity.

CBS is sinking a whole lot o' money into 92.3 The Fan - and even declined to move Max onto 92.3 morning drive (which would have been in line with most of their FM sports station flips) in favor of a high-profile - and very highly priced - reunion of Kevin Kiley and Chuck Booms.

I've said before that I can't for the life of me see Maxwell on 98.5 and "Kiley and Booms" on 92.3 competing against each other in the same time slot. CBS's reuniting of K&B has been done both to annihilate ESPN Radio's "Mike & Mike" on WKNR... and to go head-to-head against the aforementioned Rover.

Same targeted demo. And K&B has a better chance of success that Maxwell ever could have.

Because it sucks. In comparison to Lanigan & Malone, especially at their mid-90s peak? Doesn't come close. When Lanigan retires, the Cleveland talk radio scene will enter nuclear winter.

CBS will let Maxwell go. Either by running out the contract, or by buying it out before Labor Day weekend.

Rover will not get Maxwell fired, despite his pointless "boasts" to the contrary.

This supposed "news" against someone who is so clearly on his way out the door, for reasons beyond his control, is utterly despicable to hear. If people really feel entertained by this, regardless of how Maxwell fared on WNCX, those people are as sick and twisted as Rover is.

A normal human being would have turned off the radio at such graveyard dancing.

Remember: karma.

I hear the night manager at the Stop-n-Shop has audiotape of Becker5 making racist remarks about the guy who delivers the beer at the Quick Shop (where Becker5 works). The night manager says this explosive tape could result in Becker5 being demoted from frozen burrito stacker to mop-up duty in the restroom. Becker5's mom reportedly is concerned that would mean he could never move out of her basement.

I'll provide constant, annoying updates on this situation, so stay tuned.

This entire thread is so incredibly boring, IMHO.

But, I guess if we believe in free speech....you put up with everybody, even as ridiculous as their comments can occassionally be.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Wow Nathan, for someone who hates Rover so much you sure have a lot to say about him and his show. FIVE quotes in one post? That tells me that you still listen to him. Sure, you can hate him all you want, just keep listening and denying it. It's ok, your secret is safe with us. C.L.Y.!

I actually found more comments about Maxwell, Lanigan and other Cleveland radio hosts (including some who have not even been on the air yet in K&B) in Nathan's "five quotes" than Rover...

@X-Nooz: (golf clap)

Yeah, you're right. I just went back and read it again. (actually it was SIX quotes) I guess I'm always amused at the guys on here who break down multiple quotes, then add their rebuttals. I'm not sure if they just like to share their opinions, or they're just very passionate..

He was just responding to what one of the posters said to him that was unflattering and unnecessary. Five quotes does not indicate whether or not he still listens to the show or not. He doesn't have to still listen to Rover to make an opinion. Let's not turn this thread into "let's attack Nathan and criticize his responses." ButtnPushr, I can tell you're a Rover listener with the use of C.L.Y.

Believe me, I'm turned off by Rover's constant bad mouthing of other Cleveland hosts. He needs to just focus on his show. This is whole Rover vs. Maxwell is getting old. WMMS should just back off from having their biggest star try to "get Maxwell fired." I've hearing this whole mess of Rover having "evidence" of destroying Maxwell's career for a while now, and I'm tired of it already.

Let's just move on, let the battle of the lower common denominator morning hosts fizzle out, and stop nitpicking one person's post.

I didn't mean to start a war, I guess I just get offended when someone says "They suck, I don't listen." Yet, they type a screen's worth of distain for the person, show, station, etc. There are lots of shows I don't like, but I won't waste everyone's time telling you why. Sorry, Cleveland. I'm from Dallas and just discovered Rover on my iheartradio app. So all of this stuff is new to me. I like the old time "radio wars" and sadly there's nothing like that down here in Dallas.

It's okay ButtnPushr, I didn't mean to suggest a war. I was just sticking up for someone. Glad you like a Cleveland. I understand where you're coming from. It's all good. BTW, do you hear Rover talk about Maxwell that morning?

Yes. I heard the whole segment. Including the part where he played the tape of Maxwell not believing the caller could hear the studio while on hold. It made for some pretty entertaining radio, in my opinion. Like I said, there's nothing like that here in Dallas. Nobody talks about anyone else here. The only talk at all is either sports or politics. I've always been a fan of the trash talking between stations, but I guess I'm late getting to this party because apparently it's old news up there. Consider yourself lucky, Cleveland. We're the number 5 market and our radio is TERRIBLE!

Dan McDowell is an old Cleveland guy on the air in Dallas. I was a fan of his and even worked for him, briefly, when he was out in Warren, OH. How is his show doing down there?

Some people might not care about Rover having 80 hours audio of Maxwell off air but I think it's pretty interesting. I never heard of anything like this before.
