Maxwell fired?

becker5 said:
Some people might not care about Rover having 80 hours audio of Maxwell off air but I think it's pretty interesting. I never heard of anything like this before.

The person that recorded 80 hours of Maxwell clearly had nothing better to do with their lives. They could have done anything else in the world to benefit all of mankind, maybe even found the cure for cancer. Instead, they decided to record hours and hours of audio of a Cleveland talk show host for no discernible benefit whatsoever.

Even Jack Torrance would look at that and say, "My God, you're freaking insane."

Could someone please wake me up when Maxwell actually quits, gets fired, or dies of old age..... whichever comes first?

We'll find out in a few weeks what happens to Maxwell. But whatever happens, Rover won't have any real role in what CBS does.

well, shit.

It looks like they're trying to distance themselves from Max's voice as quick as possible, there's basically no show on today. Dan and Tiffany don't even need to be in the room for this...

No nothing? Not even a "best-of" tape? Uh-oh.

I just had a feeling something was up, but by the time I tuned into 98.5, the show was over. Or at least I thought it was because I forgot that it was already 9AM when I tuned in. Whoops... :-[

I'm hearing really, really off the wall rumors that Maxwell could be replaced on WNCX by another CBS Radio morning show in another market...about to lose its home.

Or, not...

Oh my.

Well, if we see a multi-colored old school bus in front of the Halle building, then we'll know for sure.

Nathan is just mad his favorite failing talk show is off the air. To bad none of your predictions are ever right.

Maybe that is why Nathan is so mad at me for a posting a mistake on the 1460 Talk thread yesterday.

None of his predictions are ever right? They do a great job over at the Ohio Media Watch and they don't post rumors over there.

I'm in Columbus and never heard of Maxwell. He must be a very popular person because of the populary of this thread. Why so
much interest in this rumor?

Nice to see you resort to flat-out lying. Maxwell was never my "favorite failing talk show."

Look in the mirror. Your predictions about Maxwell's firings, time and time again, have failed miserably. You have no credibility whatsoever, especially by your crying wolf act on this board.

I'm far and away more accurate than you will ever be. In fact, I have been.

Now, go back to begging Maxwell for the lunch money he apparently stole from you many years ago.

I'm not mad at you. I just got severely frustrated last night, especially when I took severe pains at writing stuff so as not to confuse two people with the same first name on the WABQ thread.

Here's a summary on The Maxwell Affair:

This Maxwell (Benjamin Bornstein), by the way, is no relation to the former WNCI evening jock "Maxwell." He's a former rock DJ with stops in Tampa, Cincy, Baltimore and Pittsburgh, that, two years after joining WMMS afternoons, evolved into a hot talk show because his show was up against a tape-delayed "Opie and Anthony." Recovering drug addict that spent much of his time on the air talking candidly about his therapy; he and sidekick (Dan) Stansbury were also victims of child abuse, and ALSO were deeply candid about that over the air. So much so that a drug/alcohol recovery clinic - Glen Beigh - actually became a show advertiser!

He was let go by WMMS in late 2009 because they couldn't agree on a new contract - the entire year beforehand, Max expressed his displeasure constantly about that. (After all, WMMS stole Rover away from CBS' WKRK/92.3, soon to become a sports talk station, in March 2008, and Rover's show/cast sucked up all of the oxygen away from Max's show). Replaced by former Pittsburgh and Chicago personality Alan Cox, but not without a public - and tasteless - burial of Maxwell on Rover's show and a three-week-long stunt act by two of Rover's lesser sidekicks, Shawn "Dumb" Street and Mike "Chocolate Charley" Toomey. Alan still has yet to achieve the ratings highs that Maxwell had. (And now you also understand the deep and very bitter feud Rover and Maxwell have towards each other.)

Maxwell joined WNCX in October for mornings - the reason for the delay because of a months-long non-compete Max had with Clear Channel. The NCX show has been fraught with problems: it originally began as a hybrid music/talk show, and then was left without many of the features his WMMS show had (Clear Channel had legal claim to them all; Rover, unlike Max, has always owned all of rights to his show's content) and with a diluted, "new Maxwell" shtick. It failed in the ratings, so much so that Clear Channel staff reportedly crowed about him having close to a zero rating in one demo - and even set a congratulations card over to the WNCX studios. Even while the show while slowly picking up some listeners, has struggled against Rover in the same time slot. Not even truncating the show to three hours as an all-talk show once again has helped.

(I gave up listening, not just because the show didn't play off well in mornings as opposed to afternoons, but also due to prior commitments in the morning that prevented me from listening - and CBS has never offered complete show podcasts, a company-wide policy.)

Maxwell is not getting fired. His contract runs out in October, and "92.3 The Fan's" new morning show - featuring longtime sports talker Kevin Kiley and comedian Chuck Booms - is directly aimed to take on Rover as well. "becker5" doesn't care that I've said this numerous times (mainly because it completely undercuts his argument), but it frankly does not make sense for CBS to have Maxwell and Kiley and Booms cannibalize each other in the ratings, when the clear objective is to be on-par with Rover. (By contrast, if a Danny Bonaduce were to take over for Maxwell, that show would fit WNCX's older classic rock demos better and not risk ratings cannibalization vs. K&B.)

For months, "becker5" has breathlessly hyped about Maxwell "getting fired at the end of the month" over and over and over again, and when he's proven wrong, he always lobs attacks at me. "becker5" is equivalent to a broken analog clock. He'll be right... eventually, and more often than not as a pure fluke.

Hope that helps.

So you are saying Maxwell will be done in October and Danny Bonaduce might be taking over WNCX mornings? Danny Bonaduce is coming to Cleveland?

Nathan, did you ever think Maxwell went to number one because Rover came over around the same time they switched to the new ratings system?

Ohio Media Watch is the only accurate source on here. I wouldn't listen to Nathan. He has a grudge about Rover [EDIT]

Wow. You are incapable of comprehending basic English.

This actually isn't that shocking, because you were too lazy to actually read what I wrote.

Here's what I wrote in my previous post:

"(By contrast, if a Danny Bonaduce were to take over for Maxwell, that show would fit WNCX's older classic rock demos better and not risk ratings cannibalization vs. K&B.)"

If does not equal when.

It's only a guess, proffered by Ohio Media Watch, the person you claim you trust,[EDIT]

And OMW labeled it as a "really, really off the wall rumor."

Danny Bonaduce is not coming to Cleveland, and the chances he might are between "pretty damn slim" and "not at all."

That was just pure speculation just to prove a point.

Maxwell will likely get his contract bought out for reasons other that what you, "becker5," have falsely claimed on here over and over and over and over again.

[EDIT] over Maxwell getting fired that you cannot grasp actual facts or even accept the possibility that what you want isn't going to happen.

becker5 said:

Nope. Never have, never will.

If that were the case, Alan would be a solid number one over Triv, when in fact, he never has outdrawn Triv (and I'VE seen the proof - Alan never has matched the ratings highs Maxwell had, despite your continual lies to the contrary). Maxwell always had strong ratings against O&A pre-Rover, and was the only strong point the station had for years. Then he picked up disaffected Triv listeners after Paul Rado and Marty Allen were fired.

Oh, and the PPM system came into play in early 2010, just after Maxwell left, and surprise, surprise: Alan still isn't number one.

You lose on both counts, yet again.

So you don't listen to me? Then you don't care that I've obviously discredited you on this board over and over and over and over and over again. You have absolutely no credibility on this board, and never will. Not in a million years.

Remember that I am Ohio Media Watch's right-hand man, and his fill-in blogger when he steps aside. You have a problem with me, you have a problem with him. Can't have it both ways, bud.

Eh, maybe I shouldn't be so hard on "becker5." After all, if you're on the losing end of an argument like he always is, you lash out at the messenger,[EDIT]

Oh my.

Well, if we see a multi-colored old school bus in front of the Halle building, then we'll know for sure.

It wouldn't be too far-fetched. Remember that WNCX had, pre-Stern, former Humble Pie lead Jerry Shirley as their morning host (he then scooted to overnights prior to his ultimate, and sad, departure).

And don't forget Micheal Stanley, obviously.

If CBS did this (and again, for hopelessly ignorant people like "becker5," I said IF) that would be an interesting means to burn off Danny's contract. Maybe giving Danny a fresh start in Cleveland in the process, and WNCX as well, once the last two months of Maxwell's contract is inevitably bought out ("becker5," that's different from getting "fired").

Danny could fit WNCX's demos better than Maxwell could, plus instead of competing with "Kiley and Booms" for the same target audience, Danny would be complementary with K&B, targeting Rover's older demos and Lanigan's demos at the same time.

(I can't be the only one that finds the possibility of Danny and Chuck Booms working side-by-side in the Halle just oh so intriguing. Lol.)

Do I see it happening? I don't know. Not terribly likely IMO. But CBS will need to do something with Danny. He loses his current radio home in two weeks, as WYSP/Philadelphia goes bye-bye to simulcast WIP-AM on September 6 - a week after our own 92.3 flips to "The Fan."

Supposedly, Danny's contract was all that kept CBS from announcing the WYSP flip much earlier. Couple that with WNCX needing to resolve the Maxwell situation to benefit "K&B," this could be an obvious solution for all parties.

But I wouldn't put money at the betting window just yet.

Just to clarify a few things:

* Yes, that is the name I've heard in that off-the-wall, really off-the-wall rumor, the one and only Danny Bonaduce, now an experienced morning drive host about to lose his place in Philadelphia due to the aforementioned WYSP-to-WIP-FM flip next month.

The rumor, passed along by someone not connected to the situation at all, says they're figuring out what to do with Danny, and Cleveland and WNCX is supposedly one of two possible destinations.

I once again said this was "an off-the wall, really off-the-wall" rumor. I have no information or even my old solid rumblings that it's about to happen, or that WNCX is the destination of choice. I only discuss it here because it's a funny rumor, and gives the opportunity to make "Partridge Family" jokes. :D

* No, Maxwell is not "getting fired" in some blaze of glory as predicted a half dozen times in this thread. His contract is not getting renewed. They may eat the last month or so, due to other circumstances (i.e. "The Fan"'s 8/29 launch).

The fact that Maxwell's contract isn't getting renewed became painfully obvious in the past month or so, and though I don't listen to his show at all (or Rover, either), supposedly Maxwell himself has been saying this on the air in recent weeks.

The past few days, Maxwell show cast member "Ribz" has tweeted that he "can't talk about" anything involving the show.

Again, I don't listen to Maxwell, or Rover, or even Alan Cox, and even if I ever did, I don't buy all the intershow drama/intrigue. (80 hours of off-air tapes? Who cares?)

Maxwell is not "getting fired" because of anything Rover says or plays on his show.

Maxwell's show is coming to an end because of a rather mundane contract non-renewal and a changing environment around the Halle Building.

* I appreciate Nathan's role as "Secondary Editorial Voice(tm)" and his occasional contributions as a guest blogger. And he was a big help in piecing together the "Fan" story.

But Nathan is his own man. If he has opinions on here or elsewhere, they are his alone, and he doesn't necessarily represent OMW (the blog, or yours truly as Primary Editorial Voice[tm]).

Now, we often agree on media-related stuff, but if you have a beef with his messages here, take it up with him, not me. We are not joined at the hip.

Oh come on Becker, and quit all your snipping...come on get happy!
