may trends....

LOL- this place cracks me up. They've been on the air what, 6 weeks at most?

So ratings come out and they're not good and you people are suprised?

Am I the only one who expected them to have to lose the 1.5 (or so) that they had before they'd start picking up listeners from Mix, or Jack, or Edge or wherever?

Or did you really think the people who were there listening to Freebird and Lagrange are going to stick around for Death cab for cutie and Snow Patrol.

Like I said- LOL-
KDBN on air for a month getting crappy ratings, they get a FAIL.
KRLD-FM on air for 6 months getting crappy ratings: NOT FAIL.
BDH on 1360 not even showing up in most ratings, NOT FAIL.

I'm with little1... Give them a chance. They have only been around since April 27th. Scott Gaines was added later and is doing a great job as is Alexis IMO. Plus I LOVE the music...

I don't, but I get that I may not be their target market.

And I think Cumulus had a choice, continue going up against KZPS (and losing) or go a different route.

And has anybody noticed that their route is much friendlier to the front end of the 25-54 demo? KLUV, KZPS, etc are all having problems in that their audience is aging out of that 45-54 cell. If KDBN can make a halfway decent showing in 25-34 or 35-44, they'll be better positioned for the next few years than other stations...

If they can just get rid of The Regular Guys, that would be even better. Their show sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly... Why do we care about a morning show from a smaller market - or any other market than D/FW? It would probably do better in mornings in "jukebox" mode like JACK... OR music intensive with quick traffic/weather breaks... So easy an intern can do it... ;)

Looking at the 12+ numbers from the past 8 years (for fun, because we all know you can't sell 12+, yada yada yada...)

KDBN just had the lowest rating (by 0.1) for 93.3 in those 8 years.
Meanwhile, KDMX, KZPS and KJKK had their highest in those eight years for their frequencies.
KRNB tied their highest rating for the 8 year period.

Now that PPM is somewhat mature, it is unsual to have three major stations hit new highs for that period length.

If the Regular Guys are the metaphorical anchor to 93.3's slow start, then a simple & popular solution (for this board anyway) would be other morning programming.

LOL- Gee, let's see, a station that catered to 40 and 50 year old rock fans changes its format and 2 other stations that cater to 40 and 50 year old rock fans (KZPS and Jack) see a boost. Who thought that would have happened? ::)

And I bet KDBN is going through what every other station that changes its format goes through. Their shedding old listeners left and right. And even shedding listeners, they only did .1 worse than their previous low? And that's charecterized as a slow start? LOL...

Let's C&P from Domingo's post...
Mar Apr May
29t 29t 28 KRLD-FM
24t 27t 29 KESS-FM
32 31 30 KLIF-AM
28 32 31 KPMZ-FM
24t 23t 32 KDBN-FM
Their "slow start" already has them within striking distance of KESS, KLIF (which has sucked for years) The Fan (which has been on for 6-7 months), and Platinum (on for a year +?).

Like I said, I don't like the music, but some of you people either don't understand radio basics or are completely clueless. Slow start? Look at Platinum at #31 or Fan at 28...

That morning show isn't going to get 93.3 any traction in DFW. Scott or Alexis would do a better job just playing music. In fact, no one I know has anything good to say about The Regular Guys.

johnqdoe said:
"Quality Rock"???? Just when you thought KDBN couldn't go any lower....

Just a clarification... "May" is a book. There are no trends in the PPM.

It would be great to see those 25-54 numbers if anyone has them handy. AM and PM drives too.

I'm not saying The Fan is a success...I could care less about BDH too...It just seems like a totally idiotic move for Cumulus. You get an "AAA-lite" station anchored by an out of market morning show that tuerns off half your audience. The midday gal is still reading liners and not really tlaking about the music at all. The PM Drive guy is gaining some traction...You have the "Quality Rock" moniker, but no real music talk at all from what I've heard. I'm not saying go into Rover or Redbeard territory here, but SOMETHING would be nice. And to top it alll off, Cumulus is running no TV or billboards form what I can see. They mention "The Regular Guys" in most every break...but I don't hear any audio of them. Wouldn't it make sense, ESPECIALLY for a new show, to recycle some snippits thruout the day instead of just having the jocks and Voice Guy say the name of the show?

We've heard that for years. Classic Rock is on it's deathbed...Classic Rock si doomed. The numbers suggest otherwise. And don't discount for a second, the effect that Guitar Hero and Rock Band has on the kids that are just discovering these tunes and bands.
