No offense, but ANYTHING would get better ratings than what they've been doing.

Maybe, but then again, maybe not.

I'm trying to remember if there was ever a time that any format or show on that frequency managed to break out of the bottom half of the ratings, and nothing is coming to mind. Various owners and management have thrown the kitchen sink at that signal over the years to no avail.

If I remember correctly, they were the most successful as playing Top 40/Urban as the Party station. Anyone have access to those ratings from then, I think they were pushing a 3.0 12 plus then. Numbers they'd die for now, I'd imagine.

Not to mention, that frequency was harder to pick up back then in 1997 as their transmitter was south of the valley correct?

For a while, they were simulcasting on 104.3 Payson and the 99.3 translator on the west side. Then 103.9 made its first "upgrade" and the Brentlingers regained control of 104.3 and 99.3 with an automated rock format. The simulcast made up for their signal deficiency back then.

indieradioguy, i dont know if it's necessary to call me ignorant...I just think I don't really know what the definition of a hipster is. I figured the typical 103.9 listener is in their 20s, alternative, progressive, into technology, maybe environmentally conscious...exactly what I thought a hipster was. My bad.

I think this is the type of person who listens to 103.9...not 12 year olds, who listen to Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, etc...which probably means the typical 12 year old listens to JohnJay & Rich...

I am very sorry, meant no disrespect. In the process of being a dumbass I was not considerate of other comments. I probably should have clarified that I meant 103.9 has become less of a "new music" station and more of a "alt-radio nostalgic" station - why would 12-year olds listen to that? Same reason many non-boomers like KSLX. Not to mention there are a LOT of 40's/50's moms who are just now "discovering" bands like Social Distortion and Smashing Pumpkins because their kids are raving about them. (I don't know what other station would have contributed to that phenom.) Of course, there's a difference between hearing Led Zeppelin on a station you expect to be playing Led Zeppelin versus hearing a seemingly-neverending loop of (quite frankly) OLD MUSIC on a station that promotes concerts like the Vans Warped Tour yet - inexplicably - rarely plays tracks from the concerts they promote. That makes no sense to me.
