Me TV to go national

Didn't This at least have some group deals announced at launch?

On October 31, night before it went on the air, only WCIU/WDJT (Weigel-owned), WSYX/WRLH/WRGT (Sinclair-owned My-primary), WCWN (Freedom-owned), and KDOC (which never actually launched This TV) were listed as affiliates by Wikipedia.

How confusing can it get? Why didn't they just call them Me-TV and Our-TV?

When WCIU returned from ethnic/specialty TV to general entertainment they dubbed themselves "The U"

Kind of like how radio stations use one of their call letters like WBBM is B96

So you have "The U."

Then the had a low power channel, to which WCIU moved what remained of it's business/ethnic programming to. They too a few hours off of this channel and put old sitcoms on it. They called it "Memorable Entertainment Television" (or Me-TV for short)

When they went full time with old shows on this low power station, WCIU bought another low power TV station, and moved the ethnic programing there. Then as a play on "The U" they named this low power station "ME-TV"

Get it "The U" and "Me-TV" (Let's all laugh")

Then Me-TV was a hit, so WCIU moved the ethnic programming from that other low power station and named it "Me-Too" which is like saying "Memorable Entertainment Also"

The ethnic programing went to WCIU subchannel

Dec 1, 2010, WCIU got rid of the ethnic programming all together and renamed the subchannel "U-Too" and right now it is on 26.6 but they are moving it on Dec 15, 2010 to 26.2

You get it U-Too on 26.2 (yet another play on words - Too and Two)

Here's the schedule for the upcoming national MeTV from the MeTV Network website at the following link: http://www.metvnetwork.com/metv_schedule.pdf

I can't copy & paste the schedule from their site, as it's in PDF format.

The schedule originally posted was from the METV Chicago website, and will be on MeToo, which will be Chicago's MeTV, and keep the programming from the Sony Library that can't be available on the national MeTV, due to Tribune owning the national rights to the Sony Library for Antenna TV. MeToo Chicago's schedule is at this link: http://metvchicago.com/?page=newschedules

As I said before I think ME has got a lot of people pulling their hair out, trying to distinguish
one ME from the other ME. Come to think of it THIS was not such a great name either. CMN
Classic Movie Network would have worked also.

The MeTV issue will only happen in Chicago as Weigel Broadcasting plan to keep a local MeTV (MeToo) in the Chicago market, while offering the national MeTV on the currrent local MeTV (currently all comedy with MeToo currently being all drama). This won't be an issue in South Bend or Milwaukee, as both of those markets will only have the national MeTV (South Bend's MeTV is unbranded).

Where do you get your info on Milwaukee? I was kinda led to believe there would be the local one plus the national. Ch. 49.2 and 49.3 are still open (both have test pattern color bars) while 49.4 is Telemundo. They've made it known that they plan to do 'something' with those open subchannels, though never saying what.

I haven't heard anything about Weigel creating a local MeTV for the Milwaukee market. It could still be possible that a local MeTV could be available to your area. If it did happen, they might also call it MeToo, like they do in Chicago (which until December 15th, is all drama programming). I also haven't heard what the're gonna do with their additional subchannels on WBME. I only know that MeToo in Chicago will become the local MeTV, as that has the Chicago rights to some of the programs that Antenna TV has the national rights to. If you like your current MeTV, then you might want to contact Weigel Broadcasting Milwaukee, to ask if a local MeTV will still be available. I'm just glad a local MeTV will still be available in Chicago, though I really like the separate MeTV (comedy) & MeToo (drama) channels as is.

I checked TitanTV and Zap2it, and next Wednesday's schedule shows the national MeTV schedule on 49.1. Haven't heard about anything else being added or switched around. Their Facebook page doesn't say much.

Looks like Milwaukee will lose the prime time movie (they showed some pretty good ones, like "Taxi Driver" and "Tommy"), the weekend horror flicks and Stoogeapalooza. They'll keep many of the same shows, though it looks like they'll lose some local faves like "Happy Days".

What they should do is use 49.2 for either the local or national MeTV (switch around with the main channel or whatever) and move ThisTV from 58.3 (to free up space for CBS HD) to 49.3. Keep the Telemundo LP station on 49.4 and do whatever with 49.5 (as Weigel reallly likes to load up their subchannels).

Could the new ME TV network turn out to be a replacement for ThisTV, at least in some areas?

In markets where Tribune carries This TV won't see This TV dropped. In other markets, that depends on if the channel has low viewership (if the channel is being measured in the ratings). Some stations that carry This TV could possibly pickup MeTV, but split the airtime between the 2 networks, if bandwidth is an issue, that it can't be put on its own subchannel. We have yet to see what stations outside of Milwaukee, Chicago, & South Bend Indiana will carry MeTV. For Chicago, it's gonna be on WCIU 23.1/26.3 & WWME-LD 23.2. For Milwaukee, it's gonna be on WBME 49.1. South Bend Indiana will have it on WMYS-LD 69.1 for all hours, except for 8 - 10pm, which will switch to My network TV programming (should just be on the subchannel, so 2 hour isn't lost from MeTV).

Hmm, that article (if it's at all accurate) says that as with This TV, MGM will handle distribution. IMHO, that means existing This TV affiliates with enough bandwidth and no other commitments for subchannels are likely to pick up Me-TV.

WUAB/43.3, here we come! :D

Can't see them putting it on WOIO/19.3 (which is MUCH harder to pick up OTA being on RF 10 with the market's most anemic full-power OTA signal). Besides, WOIO's main channel is CBS, which is 1080i. They run "WeatherNow" on 19.2, and Me-TV would be in a more compatible digital neighborhood with 43 (.1 MNTV, .2 This TV, .3 for Me-TV).

I doubt it, OhioMediaWatch, at least in markets with Tribune stations.

ThisTV is on Tribune stations in the major markets. Tribune is starting Antenna TV on 1/1/2011 (it will air on all of their stations) and they already carry ThisTV on most of their stations. I doubt they would broadcast a competitor to their own start-up channel.

I can see MeTV replacing RTV, Estrella, left over Weather Plus channels, channels just showing weather radars, etc. Most, if not all, markets have plenty of available subchannels.

Well, there is that.

But here, This TV is on a Raycom station. Tribune owns no stations in this market, aside from "Tribune Jr." Local TV LLC's WJW/8 (which will add Antenna TV, and has no subs right now).

So, I can still see the non-Tribune This TV affiliates adding Me-TV.

I actually saw Me-TV yesterday on ivi.tv (see other post).......and it was pretty good.
No mis-cues or down-time (ie RTV). Their homemade promos were excellent. Retro
commercials every now and then.

It is a quality sub-network and any stations looking for their first sub or a new one
should be quite happy with them.....................ROLL 'EM OUT BOYS.

MeTV looks like the same setup as THIS TV; Weigel managing and programming, MGM distributing. If they follow the same pattern with MeTV as This TV, I suspect very good coverage in a year. Too bad there won't be any affiliates right off though, other than Chicago and Milwaukee.

Wikipedia says they also own stations in South Bend, IN and Rockford IL. Rockford is
low power and they list no subs for it, which is strange. All their other stations are
loaded with subs.

IIRC, the Weigel stations in South Bend are all LP digital now, and thus, certainly they could add subchannels.

That still doesn't put Me-TV on stations they do not own. :D
