Then how does WBLK win all the time with their syndicated morning show? Because of Steve Harvey.

The reason 97 Rock wins isn't because of live & local, but because if the specific live & local people. Not everyone with a pulse can replace Shredd & Ragan.

EXACTLY. WBLK's closest competition is WUFO(and its FM translator)and WBBF-A/F. The former has Rickey Smiley, the latter is basically programming off of the bird(and I DON'T mean Twitter). NEITHER of those stations, for any number of reasons, can even get out of the starting gate to challenge WBLK.

I disagree. Morning shows are not about music. They're about the quality of the personalities. Steve Harvey competes with every other morning show in Buffalo, and he wins. He wins because he's entertaining. If WBUF is losing because of Hot Wings, then WBLK is winning because of Steve Harvey.

Concur that Harvey has competition in morning drive. "Live & Local" is not the most important factor. Most morning shows play very little or no music. A quality morning show CAN be music intensive with the right host and format.

WBLK has a 10 share to 97 Rock's 6.6. One has a local morning show and the other doesn't. I assume Harvey is a big reason for the ratings success despite not being local...
 
They're on all morning, wrapping local bits around the national content from Steve and then going all local at 10.
