Memphis Ratings

its obvious this is the only outlet for some people to relive their glory days......when one time their certain demo did better than kix in certain areas where the signal was equal...

Yes, mister it's been a while...and frankly, I'm cool with that.
I've NEVER said KIX was horrible. I've never said Y&E were horrible.
I DO say they want to take all the credit for a good book when National country trends are hot (read his posts when they win)...
And I see where they want to shift the credit during a bad book when it's down Nationally.

Mister, even YOU must admit there is something strange about a guy who wants to get on an open forum like this and crow right after some BAD numbers show up. The prudent policy would be to shut up.

Forget Arbitron or any other ratings...or how long its been since I nor anyone else has been in radio...

Nothing you say changes the very simple fact that when it comes to the NON-URBAN piece of the Memphis market pie, country listeners are underserved!

Let's say the population for the entire market is 50-50 urban to non-urban.
I'm not really sure, but you have maybe 4 to 6 stations in serious contention for the urban half.
How many do you have in serious contention for the other half?
Whatever that number is, there is only one major country player-Kix 106.
That's fabulous if you're KIX 106!
That seems silly to me. I'd be saying this if my best friends were working at KIX (and some of my friends ARE there)
You are very intelligent, but you are not really paying attention to what I post.
I never said someone could beat KIX (although that's possible)
I never said KIX sucked.
I never said Y&E sucked.
I never said YOU sucked.
I merely said there is room in the market for another major country player.

I don't know if you're trying to "OUT" me by using Paul, but I know who you are, too.
I do not try to hide my identity on this board.
And if YOU or anyone else would like to get together sometime in person and discuss this or anything else I post on here, e-mail me.
I'll provide you with my full name, address, phone number and cell if you like. Hell, I'll Mapquest it for you or drive down to buy you a beverage of your choice.

This isn't about calling Elder names...this is about calling him out when he has the gall to get cocky after a crappy book. One thing no one can ever accuse him of is not having cherries. Forsight may be another thing altogether. Respectability may be, too.

Have a blessed day-and come up and see me sometime. ;D
I don't think Elder was trying to be cocky. He was just trying to point out that when KIX is way up, there are calls for another country station. When KIX is down, those voices are silent. Even you didn't bring the subject up until Elder chimed in.

And I'd like to take you up on your offer and talk shop sometime, Paul. Hit me up sometime at: [email protected].

There's a similar situation in San Diego, where KSON-FM had the entire market to themselves for years. Clear Channel decided to take them on with a somewhat inferior signal, and even managed to get the morning show away from them. KSON has managed to lead despite some early set backs, and even owns mornings (though I haven't checked lately), but it's a good example of a 6 share (12+) station getting a competitor that ranks in the high 1's and low 2's and how they manage to continue doing well in sales despite the dilution. One clear advantage is coverage. KSON has a 50 kW center city stick with a Class A full time simulcast for north San Diego county (high powered translator in essence) while KUSS (the CC competitor) is licensed to Carlsbad and has very poor coverage to south and east San Diego county. KSON is also live while KUSS does a bit of VT mids and nights. I would think that KIX could be attacked successfully to some degree, but they are heritage, and listeners are pretty loyal. Someone will take a run at them eventually if they continue to get high ARB's.

Elder and Mister...no fair making me chuckle.
But...we'll make Elder buy the beverages...after all, he's the one with the fat checks and bonuses.
We'll just help him spend them. ;D

I don't really follow you on the "glory days" thing ???...but,
I guess it'd be better to have some to relive than to have NEVER had any at all.
Who are you anyway? Oh yeah...NOBODY!

Megastar! hahahahaha.
I laughed when I typed it.

....from reading some of these posts....it seems that some egos have been a bit deflated. If that's true...GOOD! I've only worked in the Memphis market, but most of the "jocks" I've been associated with seem to think that the whole world revolves around what they say and do. Sometimes it's laughable. It tickles the hell out of me when a bad book comes along (I'm not talking specifically about KIX) and shows them just how insignificant they really are. I love to hear the whining and excuses.

I don't think anyone would deny that if Froggy was still on the air playing country, 94.1 would have twice as many listeners than it does right now playing a 2005 Pussycat Dolls song followed by a 1970 Staples Singers hit followed by a 1979 Donna Summer record.

Who is the potential audience for Snap?

Gay men and 12-year-old girls??

I thought that was the audience for "Triple-Snap-In-Z-Formation"?

Nice try guys....However everyone has an ego. From the tomato farmer to the CEO.
I have seen high profile radio personalities that are more down to earth than some insecure loon running the board on an AM station.

I don't know who is more viscious radio people or former radio people?

God Bless Everyone
