Menino whines again

It was a purposeful ethnic slur against a member of my own tribe who demonstrates the worst stereotypical characteristics of a ... "warped" mind if you get the word association.

Don't blame Menino because he gives a damn about how our PUBLIC AIRWAVES get abused and toyed with for the profit of a few. He's just being a good public servant.
A good public servant??? You've got to be kidding!
He is the most self serving politician out there.
He latches his name onto every cause, function, just about everything in Boston.
And his latest and greatest idea...use up some more waterfront real estate for a city hall.
Put it this way....it will be the only building in South Boston that would get less use than a football stadium.
Go to other cities: any city luck enough to border water, they make good use of it....make it a place to go, with things to do. What do we have in Boston? A court house, a proposed City Hall, a couple of hotels, a post office, and only a couple spots that are appealing to tourists.

I can't take the blather any longer!
"O&A wronged poor, poor mushmouth menino back in '98...they should be punished..."
"They had a couple doing the no no in a church, ooooohhhhh, they're such bad people"
What a bunch of NINNIES!
WE are the USA, get used to it!
"O&A are total potty mouths"
Are they?
What a bunch of boobs!! (I mean the bird, not the other).
aJEsus LIGHTEN UP!!! What O&A do is entertaining to millions of loyal fans, and is interesting to countless more casual listeners, look at their numbers!!!
Whether the radio they do is moral or immoral is not at issue.
The issue here is a mayor who's version of the English language sounds similar to the gibberish spoken by a character from the eminently hilarious "Blazing Saddles".
A man who cannot separate a gag from his so- called professional life,
and a dynamic radio team that has proven that "Down" never means "Out", and there are a vast number of people who find themselves so angered over it, so jealous of the success...
not just once, but twice, and bigger this time than ever before!
Great Radio with permission?? What complete and utter TRIPE!!!! (if I may use such saucy language).
There's an old saying:
"It is easier to beg forgiveness, than to obtain permission", let me pose a question;
Who gave the Eminent Uncle Milty the go ahead to step out on stage in the 50's in a positively garish
drag costume? Anyone want to argue this being one of the most momentous moments in broadcast history? I doubt NBC could tell him no.
Who gave Colonel John Glenn permission to fire all of the rocket motors on the second try at the 'sound barrier' when he throttled them all up and just 'went for it'?
Did the Eminent Orson Welles ask permission to scare the heck out of people nationwide into a frenzy with his groundbreaking "War of the Worlds"?
No.
These events, though unconnected, were all ground breaking.
To the generation O&A are targeted, their show is what we need and what we want.
I grew up on stations like KMET, KLOS, KROQ, KISW, KZOK, and others, I had grown so tired of the same old stuff, those who were so scared of the bosses, scared of the minority, scared of offending anyone. Offending someone is more fun and entertaining to me than the baby food on the air over the last ten years or more.
These guys are a breath of fresh air, what they do is irreverant and offensive, they do an honest show. I don't care if they offend people, if you don't like the show, dummy, don't listen!
I was in Desert Storm, I deserve to listen to whatever I want. If I feel they are funny and if they make fun of some group of people, or a specific mushmouth, GOOD!
People in this country have forgotten how to grow some skin, how to take a joke, and the people who pay are the ones who least owe the debt.
So you people can have your opinions, mine is the mayor of Boston is a stuffy old self important piece of canine digestive by-product.
If he cannot take a joke, apply a right-hand threaded fastener to him.
If this shoe fits you as well, please accept my cordial invitation to apply one to yourself also.
FRRRRRRUNKUS!!!!!!!

Jesus lighten up yourself! you've just preached the longest, most over exaggerated sermon on the subject yet!. Like virtaully every other "pest' you have drunk much too much of the O and A kool Aid. They have their following and they have a certain talent at all without question. Your post screams "Im a typical O and A fan who swallows whatever they say whole". They're good, but jesus man you sound like you're defending your girlfriend against someone who called her ugly. As for Desert Storm? yeah that has no bearing on your right to listen to a radio show, In other words it gives you no more or less right than anyone else, stop with the posturing soldier!. Since you brought it up like it means something; Imagine if O and A had called your mother on the air and told her that you were killed in desert storm on April fools day? would your mother be a stuffy old battle axe because she got upset?. No and dont even try to say that you would think that was funny!. It is the same thing just because the guy is apublic servant doesnt make him non human so grow up. I was the one that said that the april fools joke should have no bearing on homeless shopping spree and how it is perceived but anyone who spouts the " can't anybody take a joke" line is full of it because you would not feel that way if the example I gave were to happen to you, and again it's O and A's logic almost word for word. get a life "pest".

Anyone see the Boston papers today, Mumbles is whining that BCN and the morning drive guys O&A need to be punished for something they did in NEW JERSEY! OK it was a stunt with a lack of good taste, but that's what radio has become hasn't it?

http://www.boston.com/news/local/massachusetts/articles/2006/12/17/radio_stunt_draws_menino_wrath/

"Mayor Thomas M. Menino is chastising shock jocks Opie & Anthony and WBCN for broadcasting a live "Homeless Shopping Spree" yesterday where homeless people were given money and were taken to a New Jersey mall."

Mumbles do us ALL a favor, [EDIT]. You are the one that got them canned from rimshotter AAF after the April Fools stunt, after that they went to the top. You made them what they are today so don't complain.

BTW mumbles, how come Harborlights/a.k.a.(fill in the bank du jour)Pavilion which is fighting for its life because that space is supposed to be used for marine/fisheries related use is all of a sudden going to be OK for a new *[EDIT] hall?

You want to help the homeless Mumbles... GIVE city hall to the Pine Street Inn or the New England Shelter For Homeless Vets. I bet there is enough square footage in that place to assure everyone a warm bed at night.

[EDIT-offensive]
*[EDIT-profanity]

Saw it on Drudge and cable news channels last night. This story is getting some legs in the national
media. Menino is a pinhead but I guess he's indirectly helping Opie and Anthony, XM, CBS, WBCN, the Herald, the Globe to sell whatever they're selling.

Mumbles didnt walk, he ran, tripped, and dove head first into the trap!. I like Mumbles but he really showed his lack of savvy by going after those two dopes for something having nothing to do with him, his state, anything. You're right, Opie got the last laugh. I wonder how many phone calls and emails from "pests" mumbles office has received?.

Obviously moderator7 who decided to edit me has no familiarity with Boston radio, or they would have remembered the "schiiiiiity hall in the schiiiity of of Baaaston" line from Jerry Williams show. Was it Steve Sweeny that used to do that bit? Guess it was before his/her time.

Can I edit my own post to read shut the bleep up instead of the four letter abreviation we have all come to know and love.
And I did listen to O&A this morning, and I loved when one of them was calling Mumbles a short form of Richard.

Don't you just hate a heavy handed edit button pressing moderator?????? :p ;) :-*
BTW, too bad you're up north tonight.............get-together for the Marshfield bike club and friends at Raff's with open bar.

riiiiight.. I'll head down right after my 12 step meeting.

Are you trying to tell me you were not a fan of my moderating?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

O and A are making hay out of this only because Menino can't swallow his pride, all this time down the road.

It's sad. He's one of the elder statesman of the Major Metro Mayoral crowd, but he's acting very small town, while O and A laugh all the way to the bank.

Actually, it was mimic, Jim Morris, who did the first on-air impersonation of "Hizzoner" on The Larry Glick Show and then on the Jerry Williams show. Steve Sweeney sort of reappropriated Jim's act as Jim went national as a dead on Ronald Reagan in the 80's.
" My wife Catherine is a good girl... I luv this siiity..."
Sadly, for some Jim Morris was too good at sounding like the now Alzhiemic Kevin Hagen White who can bearly remember his own name.

I remember Steve Sweeney doing that joke at the Comedy Connection in the Theater District back in the early 80's, and then at Stitches in the 90's and then on WZLX in the '00's. I'll say one thing, he sure knows how to get milage out of other people's jokes.

Did anyone catch the Hearld today?

small peice on how Mumbles won't talk to WBZ AM anymore because they didn't run with his outraged story.

BZ said it was not newsworthy. Mumbles might want to consider WBCN and WBZ have the same corporate owner . Note when WBZ called monday asking for a comment on a crime story they were doing he REFFUSED out of spite. From now on the News Room should mention everytine Mumbles refused to comment for a story.

From Todays Herald:

Boston Mayor Thomas M. Menino’s latest beef with radio shock jocks Opie & Anthony has been widely reported locally and nationally but it’s been missing from WBZ radio’s headlines.

“Is it news that a radio promotion upset the mayor? Nah - not to me,” WBZ (1030 AM) General Manager Ted Jordan explained.
Over the weekend, Menino became furious when he learned that Opie & Anthony were taking homeless men from New York City, giving them alcohol and setting them free in a tony New Jersey mall. The prank aired on Boston’s WBCN [website]-FM. Both WBCN and WBZ are owned by CBS Radio.

Menino issued a statement lambasting the pair’s PR prank. [EDIT]

As Mumbles would say, "WBZ is the best radio in news and I wake up Gary LaPierre every morning."
