Meridian Radio

As usual, Radiogal, you're missing the point again. Can any of those three ladies do an air shift, other than a morning show, by themselves? I don't care if you bring back 'old blood' or bring in some 'new blood', my point is morning shows should be fun and interesting to listen to and not just one long commercial, be it taped commercial breaks or live personal endorsements. I agree there are lame male jocks in Meridian, but the morning show is your anchor for the rest of the day. It just so happens that the morning show is the only radio I have time to listen to, I'm not where I can listen to the afternoon jocks. If I did and thought they didn't do a good job, you know I would say so! Just my opinion!

Your arrogance is unbelievable. What makes you think any of those 3 ladies couldn't do an air shift by themselves if given the chance? Oh, but they won't be given the chance will they and again, listen to me, it has nothing to do with how talented they may or may not be. How would you propose sponsoring a morning show? Just curious. Eliminate all live reads?

Morning shows are not 'SPONSORED'. Spots are run to pay the bills, anyone knows that, but live reads should be limited in number so that the whole show doesn't sound like one long commercial.
As far as these women not being offered jobs, would they consider coming off their morning shows to take a regular air shift? Just asking.

Do you drive home after work? Why can't you listen then? By the way you STILL did not answer my question about the morning show you said should be brought back. See Jay you don't get the point. If these ladies are getting good ratings why does it eat at you so? It is about the audience and if they like them that is all that matters. Are those the only stations you listen to. Why do you critique them, why not flip over to Q95 they have a very talented morning show. More of your talent that you are looking for so desparately. That is why there are so many stations for you to chose from.
As far as them coming off of the morning show to do a regular air shift ...... why would they. They were hired for mornings and DJ's and morning show folks are different. I know one jock in the Meridian market that can only do time and temp, no extra anything. He has been doing that for years. No content at all. Sounds like he just woke up and I believe he even turns his mike off to belch every time he talks. How hard is that? They too, should and do have personality. But this one has none and is still doing it and he is a male. He should not even be in radio. Why not pick on some of the guys in radio, why only the women?

I think some of the great talent comes from a passion for your job. You can hear it in their voices. They are happy to be there. Willing to go the extra mile to make the station look and sound great. It is unfortunate that you have to have commercial time whether live or recorded to pay the bills. But the more you hear the higher the income. It makes everything better for everyone. Sometimes it takes awhile to get there. But you have to want to. So you work hard to cover up the abundance of spots. Talk around it. It can be done and ratings can be good.

O.K., I am going to come clean,I do listen to the radio on my way home in the evening,But it is WMOX and Dave Ramsey and here lately their football talk show. The fact that the ladies get good ratings doesn't mean a thing! I know people that got straight A's every year they were in school that were as dumb as a box of rocks, and some of the smartest people I have worked with struggled thru school, so ratings really don't prove anything! As far as having more choices to listen to,how many morning local shows do we have that play country music,2,well,really one because WOKK and MISS 101 are carbon copys of each other. Who would I bring back to do mornings,Q101' s Mark Murphy, He was GREAT, DOC and the KENMAN had a long run at Q101, Ken Rainey had a good run at WOKK.The point I am trying to make is whether we bring back the old names or bring in some new names, can't they at least be fun and interesting to listen to!It would also be very nice if they all lived in this area.Radiogal, one thing I have noticed about your replys are that they always talk about ratings and money, you even said talent isn't needed, statements like that make me believe you are on the wrong end of the business, you need to be in management, unless your ego won't allow you to!

You are very small minded. I refer to ratings because without them you have no sales, let's see no sales mean no money to pay the jocks. I think you are an idiot that has a hard on for female morning show girls. Did you get passed up? Is that where all your anger comes from. Radio is fun. Radio needs ratings. Radio needs sales. It is about the ratings. Just like all businesses you have to have money coming in the door. I know you don't know this but just because you listen for free does not mean it is free to have a station on the air. Are you sure you ever worked in radio because it does not sound like it. Do you have a passion for your job? Doubt it. You only came on this board to beat up Meridian radio even though you are not in it. What do you do for a living and let's critique it. Bet you would not come out a winner.. ;D ;D

You STILL did not answer the questions you were asked. Why? You felt so strongly about making the statements. ???

Radiogal, ask any questions that you think I have not answered and I will be glad to answer them right now! In fact, I will even answer them on a level that even you can understand, you know what I mean,I'll throw in some meaningless numbers and rating jargon and money facts and all of that stuff you like to talk about.I'll make it as simple as I possible can for you!

Questions

You said bring back Jay King, Becky and Earl. Then you said Becky was a bad talent. Earl Has passed. Who did you want back?

Why do you pick on only women in the mornings?

If you owned a station, would you care about the ratings?

Why do you think I have a big ego.

Why did you lie and say you were gone when you were not.

Why do you think Miss and WOKK are carbon copies? They sound very different now. WOKK has a completly different image and sound. MISS has a sound of it's own. Listen to the afternoons and you will understand what I am talking about. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay different.
The mornings are nothing alike. Can't help it if the music is the same.

Now study up and make it simple for lil ole me.

1. I named several morning shows I enjoyed in the past - bring any of them back who are still alive.
2. I'm not picking on just the women in the morning. I was commenting on the whole content of the shows. If the shows were good, I would have said so. I've heard women on morning shows in other areas that were great.
3. I don't think your ego is big, I just asked if your ego would allow you to leave the air and go to management. Only you can answer as to how big your ego is.
4. Not lying - just a wrong choice of words, I guess. I wasn't in town for a while when all the changes were made. Now I am back, have listened for myself a few weeks, and just voiced my opinion.
5. Wow, this is a hard one! Let's see - man and woman morning show, similar man and woman on billboards, both claim to play 'today's best country', both give away birthday cakes from the Piggly Wiggly in Collinsville, both claim to have the 'original big buck bounty', both gave away a ton of corn last week, both claim to have the best weather coverage. Scotty Ray and Debbie worked at WOKK and now at MISS101, so you tell me, how are they different?
6. Out of order, I overlooked this. If I owned a station, would I care about the ratings? Yes, but I would also factor in the quality of my morning show.
Any more questions?

WOW, you really do listen hard. Why? I forgot one other question.
Why not critique the guys in radio. Only the women. Let us hear your opinion on them.

For five dollars name the radars on each station.

Radiogal,I am going to answer this last post of yours and then I am going to get off line. Why do I listen so hard? I don't, I just listen in the am on my way to work.I switch back and forth from one station to the next.My opinion on the am guys are as follows:Sharky, sounds good ,but too loud and hyper for a country am show.Scotty Ray: too redneck, backwoods country bumpkin for my taste. This is extra,Have met both guys,Sharky seems like a nice guy,Scotty Ray is very friendly but smokes too much!As for the names of the stations radars, you got me there,I did not know they had names so keep your five dollars. If I guess will you pay up?Bo and Luke Duke? Am I even close?Got to go for now. It has been fun talking with all of you!!!!!

I read alot of things, but nothing like the postings of you Jay Jones..Do you know how radio really works? You sound bitter to the world..did you loose your job in radio or something? Did you once do a morning show? Do you listen and wish it were you on the radio? Or you working a job you hate? During the 60's and and early 70's you didn't hear many woman on country radio..hello 2006! Anyone who is in radio knows you must have great sales with that you must have great ratings..If you hear alot of live morning reads, they must be working or they would not buy them month after month. ???

> My opinion on Q101 (WJDQ) flippin' a heritage to Q95.1
was flat out dumb. In Meridian Q101 has always (before
clear channel, before broadcasters and publishers, even
back when don partrage ran it, he branded every ones
brain as it being "the hottest hits" ...

Uhhhh, not quite correct. Q101 became Q101 on June 6, 1979. It flipped from WDAL-FM, an automated easy-listening format called "The Entertainers." I know, I was there. B&P owned the station at the time and Don Partridge was co-owner and GM. There was no "Q101" before June 6, 1979. The original lineup consisted of me doing mornings, Bill Loggins in middays, puking Brock Boulette in PM drive, John something from 7-Mid and still-in-high-school Jack Watkins doing overnights. Maureen Christian did news. It was a wild ride.

So True, Larry.Station was just darn Awesome.sounded like it would fit in a top 20 market. The old days have disappeared quickly.Bill Loggins (and I am Bill Loggins) worked for me years ago and i once worked with Crazy legs Brock Boulette.Radio was fun back then.now it's just see how cheap we can get someone to do voice tracks.Jocks are fast becoming like dinosaurs..IMHO
