jayjones---after reading your posts I realized that if all radio management was like you, we'd not only have no strong females on the air; we'd have no new talent at all. Get out of the dark ages.

Uhhhh, not quite correct. Q101 became Q101 on June 6, 1979. It flipped from WDAL-FM, an automated easy-listening format called "The Entertainers." I know, I was there. B&P owned the station at the time and Don Partridge was co-owner and GM. There was no "Q101" before June 6, 1979. The original lineup consisted of me doing mornings, Bill Loggins in middays, puking Brock Boulette in PM drive, John something from 7-Mid and still-in-high-school Jack Watkins doing overnights. Maureen Christian did news. It was a wild ride.

I heard the station the moment it came on the air..... will remember it always.

What do I think about the flip from Q101 to MISS101 (if anyone cared)?

I don't know. I have a special place in my heart for the Meridian area 'cause its home..... but damn! There's like 20 active signals in the market controlled by a couple of groups....it's fairly bland and nothing really sounds exciting to me (of course I'm not 16 anymore either). I think that if CC wanted to they could have just blown up the 95 frequency and started over with that. It covers Lauderdale county and if you are playing the Arb game- who cares if they can hear you in Carthage or Laurel. In addition to good programming it's all about marketing and promotions-standing out among the 20 signals on my dial. Whatever happened to the Chunky River Raft Race? Peace out.

John Chommie wasn't part of the original sign-on staff. He came along several months later, as did Lisa. Chommie did 7pm-Mid and Lisa did Mid-6am. I hired Chommie thinking that he'd do until I could find someone better. Turns out it was Chommie who made Q101 as big as it was back then. He was an amazing talent. He was so popular, some girl even named her kid Chommie, after him. Somewhere in Meridian is a 20-something year old guy named Chommie.
