Meruleo Media Sells Los Angeles TV Station To Church of Scientology

What happened in LA was the FCC transferred the channel 9 license (which had been temporarily reallocated to Norwalk–what was the reasoning for that?) to Fidelity.

The original challenge by Fidelity for KHJ-TV's license specified Norwalk as the COL.

Because of that, the legalities when the deal finally happened were convoluted.

RKO sold the KHJ-TV facilities (studios, transmitter, etc.) to Disney. Fidelity then was part of a temporary partnership called Disney-Fidelity Broadcasting under a new license for channel 9. Under the terms of the agreement, Fidelity was to be bought out in phases over a year or two (during which time the COL was officially "Norwalk-Los Angeles") and then everything reverted to 100% Disney ownership and the Norwalk COL retired.

It's all about growing their audience. Scientology TV will soon go from a upper stratopause Direct TV channel to being on every cable TV system on Southern California, both Direct and Dish TV & AT&T U-verse. Look for billboards everywhere!

Yeah, I’d say. 395 dollars?

Yep. It went on a long time before Westinghouse bailed.

No. The millions is obvious. As of now it still is, too.

I don't think I would call the "Church" of Scientology a "G-dcaster". I don't think anyone actually knows how to properly define that organisation.

Well, 31 years ago, the IRS declared that Scientology "is operated exclusively for religious and charitable purposes", which ended a 37-year dispute with the organization. The settlement involved payment of some back taxes during that battle, and from 1993 on, Scientology has been tax-exempt.

Lest my memory is fuzzy I seem to remember back when KCET was divorced from PBS and running Land Of The Lost, Mustard Pancakes, and Lidsville type fare they sold their KCET studio space lock, stock and barrel directly to Scientology (for $60ish million if I'm not mistaken) to avoid going insolvent during the dark days of KCET's inept management.

So, seems to me Scientology has a functional studio and now a local LA station to peddle their wares and snake oil to the awaiting gormless masses on a signal that cannot even penetrate the LBC with a rooftop outdoor aerial.

Chalk up KWHY (when they moved to VHF-4) and KFLA-8 as things people talk about having seen but never have any substantial proof to back those claims.
Really no different than sightings of the Loch Ness Monster, Sasquatch or a Yeti.

What does "LBC" stand for? I searched on "abbreviation LBC" and got nothing LAish or geographic in this Hemisphere.

The Scientologists have long had extensive audio and visual facilities. My very ex wife of 35 years ago became a fanatical Scientologist (those two terms are synonymous) and was involved in both audio and video production for Latin America in the later 80's in Puerto Rico and on their tramp steamer, the "Freewinds" (which was anything but "free").

Because sci-fi author Hubbard was a prolific writer, he was very involved in everything from printed materials to movies going back to the 50's.

Upon seeing your post, I Googled “LBC meaning Long Beach” and found that it stands for “Long Beach City” or “Long Beach, California.”

Makes sense. In over three decades in "the Southland" I have never seen that abbreviation before... so I guess I learned something new!

Well, I have viewed channel 8 in the past when it carried various retro networks. And I can still receive the signal at my house, although there's nothing on there now which I have any interest in.

OTOH, I have been unable to receive KWHY/KBET since its transmitting facilities moved to channel 4, and that's with a straight unobstructed signal path from the top of my building to Mount Wilson of under 30 miles. (Unfortunate for them because one of 63's subchannels is the present home of Retro TV.)

Amazing, especially since I've read that it apparently can cost upwards of 250 grand to "move up" in the Church. I think that's what recovering Scientologist Leah Remini wrote.

The most famous use of the abbrevation is the classic hip hop track, "Gin and Juice".

"With so much drama in the L-B-C, It's kind of hard bein' Snoop D-O-double-G."
Would you believe that I have. Never heard that track?

Yes, the objective is to achieve the state of “clear” where all the encumbrances of mankind through history are removed…. Or cleared. And it is very expensive, as there are levels sort of like military ranks, you have to reach in expensive steps.

If they qualify as "religious and charitable", Then I suppose Sigmund Freud was an Evangelist.
