Michael Klein has Barsky news in today's Inky

Again, people in Philly are actually talking up a return to the air by Barsky, a "jock" of dubious previous accomplishment. No offense to you Paul, but, stay in Florida, dude, spending those Benjamins that you scored from George Beasley. Why, oh, why, Philly, do you keep wanting to recycle the same, lame, tired jocks?

Note to programmers/consultants/owners: THINK OUTSIDE THE PHILLY AREA! Hire a talent that doesn't have more Philly miles on him/her than an '84 Yugo! There are so many really good jocks that could/would light up the airwaves in Philly. Jim Zippo is currently "on the beach" and does a helluva show. Anyone tried to get Mancow? There are many others, too.

Just a plea, guys: let the gene-pool expand in Philly radio; don't keep breeding with your cousins. :)

I don't think you have to worry. I think Barsky and Philly radio have come to a mutual parting of the ways. I liked his show on The Point, but his MMR show constrained him significantly.

Not gonna happen. Philly HATES change and loves tradition. EX. Harvey Holiday, DeBella, Pierre, The airstaff at WIP. Out of town personalities don't work in Philly. It's similar to Pittsburgh that way.

Yes, Philly hates change, but they love syndication: Stern, Wendy Williamns, Limbaugh, Star and Buc, O&A, Tom Joyner...

Oh where did you go Grease Man? Waldledoodle.
Edited by Wexler on 08/11/05 11:19 AM.

Barsky was great when he started out in Philly, he built a solid fan base, but that base decreased with each move from station to station. While Philly seems to like to keep its own I think Barsky's tenure in the town is over. He would be better off trying to start over somewhere in Florida where he has a shot of sounding new and fresh again, if he even still has an interest in doing radio at all.
Edited by MattB on 08/11/05 04:28 PM.

Actually, I'd say that Philly's reliance on the same local personalities have helped ward off more syndication.

I wonder if Stern's departure is tempting Grease to syndicate in more markets? It makes good business sense to do so (but he probably won't work in Philly again).

Oh God, why? Why, why, why?!

Barsky & Chio should team up and syndicate "The Has-Beens Radio Program." No one would air it but the eight or nine people who'd want to hear it could download it as a Podcast every morning while they make their pot of coffee.

"Old, annoying radio personalities never die. They just never die."

It's hillarious how certain radio personalities push the buttons of some of you posters.I'm sure Chio and Barsky would get quite a kick out of you." Oh God, why? Why, why, why?!" Too funny.

Now I would not put Barsky in the same category but the bottom line is the Debella's Roberts, Caltons, Kotz, whatever seem to relate to this screwed up city. Philly has never really been a market that's part of the radio circus that exists everywhere else. Hell even program directors that come in from other markets never seem to last.
If you take root in this city the listeners notice and you last. It is not like any other major market.

I know when I mention Barsky's name to people around here who are not in radio remember his phone scams. Since Vinnie the Crumb is not working maybe he and Barsky could do a show again together in Philly..

Actually Vinnie has a off-air gig smart guy. He is the in-stadium announcer for the Philadelphia Barrage. the Barrage are the pro outdoor lacrosse team who play at Villanova stadium.
