Michael Strahan to leave 'Live' for full-time 'GMA' spot

Here we go again - Mario's trying to be the grammar police. :p If you don't have anything constructive to add to this topic, why are you even posting here???

Do you really think calling a public female figure by her first name is disrespectful? In the old days and especially in the entertainment industry there were a bunch of divas who insisted on being called by their full stage name (or with the proper identifier). Today it seems like that has gone by the wayside and nobody seems to mind being called by their first name. (Note that even Hillary Clinton has the icon of her campaign as her first initial and Bernie Sanders actually uses his full first name.) Now if a young person was addressing a senior person it might be considered impolite or bad manners but I don't think it would be considered disrespectful.

Good points, Mr. Landtuna. Would it be disrespectful to call you 'Tuna, for short? : ). Things change. I'm noticing that during this election cycle, all the politicians (male and female) are primarily using first names to identify their opponents. So it's Hillary, Bernie, Ted, Donald, etc. One exception seems to be Sanders, who typically refers to Hillary as "Secretary Clinton."

In an otherwise bizarre election year, I find the use of first names refreshing. I remember some years back, politicians would always say "my opponent" - as if speaking his or her name would somehow validate them or give them publicity they don't deserve. I like it this way better.

If Live doesn't come back next season, what would take its place? A third hour of GMA?

BTW, these articles keep saying Live is an ABC show. It's produced by ABC, but it airs in syndication.

It is coming back next season. And the season after that.

A third hour of GMA is only coming if ABC bargains swapping a slot currently occupied by a network show for that hour. Give up The View, The Chew or General Hospital and move that hour to 9 a.m., letting the affiliates move their syndicated program into the now vacated slot. Otherwise, not a chance.

Mario, a bit of discernment on your part would've noted that the co-host, Michael Strahan shares a first name with the producer of the show Michael Gelman. The use of Strahan's surname was to avoid confusion. Had I used his first name you likely would've asked which Michael was I referring to.

I see the show continuing. It's profitable and likely much better than any other content they would put in there.

Michael Strahan Moves Up His Last Day on ‘Live’ With Kelly Ripa

Michael Strahan’s last day on “Live with Kelly and Michael” will be Friday, May 13 and he will appear on “Good Morning America” part time over the summer before joining the cast on a full-time basis in September.

We reported yesterday that fans of the cohosts may want to savor their remaining days together, as buzz on the “Live” set is that Strahan’s exit, initially timed for sometime this summer, could happen earlier to take advantage of “sweeps.”

Now, CNNMoney has confirmed the buzz.

Personally I would have referred to each host by both his or her first name and last name if I were I typing about them on a individual basis in this discussion.

I was watching the day Strahan announced his departure and wondered at that time about his remaining time on the show. It didn't seem like a good idea to me for him to stick around "for several more months" until he moved to GMA full time. The elephant in the room would have grown to gigantic proportions and overlaid most everything else the show tried to do. Best for Michael to make his move and Gelman to begin the search for a new co-host.

I'm going to miss Strahan. He is a character and very funny at times and I always thought the two of them meshed nicely despite the murmurings of the tabloid news. It was very refreshing to have a co-host who wasn't a polished entertainment personality because they come up with things that are unusual and surprising.

Anderson Cooper, tonight on Fox, does not deny he will join Kelly on Live. This is perhaps going to happen. Would be a good move for Live and for Anderson.

It would be quite a grind for him to do a morning show and keep his CNN show.

He's not exactly a great fit for Live. I'm not trying to start anything, but him doing it would be almost akin to having two female hosts.

Anderson Cooper subbed for Michael a week or two ago and was the dullest, least interesting person I've ever witnessed on that show. Most host subs are at least enthusiastic and full of energy with respect to their on-air partner. All Anderson talked about was his mother.

I'm only an occasional watcher now but won't bother to watch at all if Cooper gets the gig.

It depends...when he works with Kathy Griffin, he becomes the dull straight guy (no pun intended) who just sets up her comedy. She beats up on him, and it's painful to watch. Unless that's what you want to see. I don't know if that's what they'd want from Cooper. He's not a funny guy, but he handles the live situation well. He knows how to deal with a clock and a live camera. I don't know if those are qualifications for this show. But no question that he'd like to do this kind of TV. He hosted an ill-fated daytime talk show a few years ago, and it got lost in the shuffle. My view is they need an entertainer, not a journalist, because Kelly isn't really much of an entertainer.

Speaking of Cooper and his mother, HBO had a documentary about the two that just premiered recently...I couldn't make it past 15 minutes before I watched something else.

Anderson Cooper and Gloria Vanderbilt have been making the rounds to promote a book.

I agree that Anderson would be an odd choice for Live. Newly retired NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon seems like a stronger candidate - he filled in for Regis a number of times and got pretty good reviews. Plus he lives in New York already.

I'm not trying to start anything either - but what DO you mean by that?

I am surprised at the Gordon mention. He is good on camera but I have not seen him as "bubbly" as a co-host on Live! would be required to have. I am pleasantly surprised at his work on Fox NASCAR. Don't know if his racing work would interfere too much with a 5-day per week show.

I'm not speaking for umfan but I will take a shot.

Cooper is definitely not the masculine figure that Michael is. Michael is definitely an opposite to the very feminine Kelly and that chemistry creates a lot of humor. Cooper is not. With Cooper you would have two similar characters and the show could turn into another female heavy demographic. Right now I see a good smattering of men in the audience (including me). I would not likely watch a Ripa and Cooper show.
