"Baby Workout" Mr. Excitement was great!

He didn't have very many bad recordings to speak of.

"Don't Mess With Bill"

The new Box set "Forever".....and the song "Forever" is my favorite Marvelettes song, also recorded by the guy that wrote it Marvin Gaye.

"Don't Mess With Bill", was actually not about Smokey "Bill" Robinson. The name just worked for him in the song. I remember the firestorm that ensued for a good while after I once said, "I know who I am, so I don't have to compete.". Man oh man, "Don't Mess With Bill" was fired off as many times as they could get it played, because of the lyric line, "Now, I'm in no position to want competition.". Ha ha ha ha ha ha. Then the day came when I saw who they were, and they were the ones in no position to want competition. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha

Ahhhh the bad old days and those who had them passed along to them.

But speaking of The Marvelettes, "Please Mr. Postman". Great song that was covered by The Beatles, The Carpenters and the Shampoo.

60s stations should start a campaign to get The Marvelettes into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame...they gave Motown it's first ever #1 national Billboard Pop Single ("Postman";that alone is reason enough)

Before you put the Marvelettes into the HOF Connie Francis has to go in. The fact that she is not in is a travesty.

I dig everything by Jackie Wilson.........except "Night" ,too Operatic (Is that a word??)

His box set "Mr Excitement" is a must for Jackie Wilson Fans. Listening to "It's All A Part Of Love" as we speak...pure heaven!!

Why is Bonnie Raiit(with all due respect), Madonna, Patti Smyth in the HOF and not Connie Francis?????? Too POP..bunk!!!!!

Brenda Lee, Shirrelles, Martha and the Vandellas, Gladys Knight, Dusty Springfield, Janis Joplin ...all certainly very deservings.....BUT, Connie Francis should have been the first woman inducted into the Hall back in 1986 with original inductees. At one time she trailed only Elvis, Fats , Pat Boone and Ricky Nelson....in charted hits.
And don't tell me Connie Francis can't rock with the best of them, just listen to the Bear Family Box set.
Shame on you HOF !!!!

A while back I caught War, Malo and Tower of Power....When I heard that trumpet intro to 'Still a Young" the hair on the back of my neck stood up, same thing when the horn intro to "Slippin into Darkness'...too, too much

Great stuff Hornet. "I'll Be Around" is my favorite Spinners record.
I had the pleasure of seeing them in person 3 times in the 70s when Phillipe "Soul" Wynne was their lead singer.
He was outstanding and after he left the group it was never the same IMO.

You are right ,Spinners were never the same ...Wynne replaced by John Edwards..Wynne eventually died of a heart attack in 1984(age43). The flip side of "I'll Be Around" is my favorite Spinner song "How I Could I Let You Get Away" (#77).
My favorite Tammi terrell song is the answer song of the Spinners very first hit "Thats What girls Are Made For"....she called hers "Thats What Boys Are Made for"

Back In the 80's In did a Soul Show and the most requested songs by the Spinners was "Sadie" and "Ghetto Child".
