MIKE BARNICLE TO REPLACE IMUS PERMANENTLY ?

C

Casablanca

Guest
Wonder if Mike Barnicle will now become Don Imus' permanent replacement now that Imus has been fired.

Howie Carr is turning green with jealousy. Just listen to Carr now.

If CBS/W1 puts him in that slot, I wonder if he'll have the same amount of affiliates or...a lot less. Maybe WTKK
would be the only one as WFAN could opt for something else.

maybe david lee roth is available.

howie carr was pretty envious on this afternoon's broadcast.

barnicle is damaged goods and not a good listen.

A guy who hosts his own Boston radio show, works on the Today Show and MSNBC and still has the ear of every major political, literary, business and athletic leader in the country is NOT damaged goods. You may not like him, but the guy's got more juice than anyone in Boston. Just listen to his list of guests on his radio show: Tim Russert, Doris Kearns Goodwin, Cal Ripken, Harlan Coben, John Meacham, Joe Biden, Jim Webb, Ed Gillespie, James Carville, etc. Damaged goods? I don't think so.

Imus had to go! Now that he's not in the radio biz, I will tell you, like Dr. Romano on ER who got cold cocked in a bar, Imus had it commin' ! Folks, those of you who haven't had the displeasure, let me tell you, this was a nasty guy to just about everyone.

I bet he shows up on the Stern show and sitting next to Howard on XM. Or is it Sirius now?
Either way, Imus going is a good thing. Don't let anyone tell you this was about free speech! The guy was a (fill in your insult) to people behind the scenes.

Stan Lee said it best: "With great power, comes great responsiblity." It's a responsiblity that Imus squandered.

Trust me, Boston radio waves are better for it.

Two main differences between Barnicle and Imus: Imus has more hair, and he's not a disgraced plagarist.

Other than that, one screeching bleeding liberal mouthpiece replaces another.

Film at Eleven. BFD.

neither Barnicle nor Imus are liberals... but if the litmus test is anyone to the left of Ann Coulter or O'Reilly or Michael Savage, then, yeah, they're liberal. Mike Malloy and Randi Rhodes are liberals... Jim Braude is a more moderate liberal (centrist DLC type--Democratic Leadership Council)

Barnicle cannot come from an inbreed factory like The Boston Globe and not be a Liberal. So you are wrong about him. Imus we can debate about, I suppose, but his affinity for Kerry is a clue.

One thing for sure, Howie Carr will not get the gig. Carr has reached his level of incompetency. WRKO is as high [ or low as the case may be] that he will go. His syndication efforts can't even get into Vermont.

My bet is still on Mike Barnicle.

oh no. does it mean more barnicle and peter smyth in every crowd shot nesn shows during sox games? can't stand it.

Let me see - Barnicle Bill the Plagiarist taking over for the A-Man (Stern called Imus "**** In The Morning") equals:

1. a worse rating than even David Me Roth, if that's possible

2. smile on Felon Tommy Taxes' face, now that he'll no longer be the lowest rated morning show, and

3. a #1 rating among mainstream adults (technically 25-54, realistically 30-49) for Imus' fellow Klansmen Dennis and Callahan, who still routinely can't tell the difference between an escaped gorilla and a Blue Hill Ave. gang member (yes, we're all going to be repeating this bit for the rest of our lives)

By fall, especially with the Red Sox' biggest owner Pinch Sulzburger (at 16.666% vs. John Henry's 12.5 %) running WRKO, here's what will happen to each station:

WTKKK, as Howie called it Wednesday (he'll change his tune soon enough, as you'll read):

6-10 am - Jay Severin
10 am-12 Noon - Michael Graham Crackers
12 Noon-3 pm - Eagan and Braude
3-7 pm, with no sports interruption - Howie Carr, to bash everything Eagan and Braude polluted the previous three hours of airtime with
7-10 pm - Laura Ingraham (taped)
10 pm-12 Mignight - The O'Really Radio Factor (taped)

WRKO:

6-10 am - The Felon
10 am-12 Noon - Todd Fineburg (spelling right or not?)
12 Noon-3 pm - Rush (talent on loan from Oxy)
3-6 pm - Sean Hannity (bought from Salem's WTTT)
6-7 pm - Roy Masters - makes sense, given that the next two shows are...
7-10 pm - Michael Savage (distributed by Roy Masters)
10 pm-1 am - Jerry Doyle (also distributed by Roy Masters)

Of course, when the Red Flops are on (I'm a big Pats' fan, BTW), Roy will be limited to 30 minutes, followed by 4 hours or so of the Dead Sox, then by Savage Nation afterward.

After this spring's anticipated rating disaster for both WTKK and New York's WFAN, expect massive changes at both stations! :D

doubt severin will ever agree to do early wake-ups. he'll probably ask for another 10 weeks
of vacation time...

maybe cbs will lease stern from sirius and run him in place of imus.
then wtkk will surely destroy wrko.

Severin would never do morning drive, agreed.

Carr on WTKK? Maybe, but be aware with regards to the sports interruption that from henceforth all
weekday aft. games (Sox) are on WEEI and there are no more Celtics conflicts (moving to WEEI).
The only time Howie will be affected is his last half hour on games that start at 7 pm, due to
pre-game.

I would love to have them put Dennis Miller in at 10 am after Graham or E&B.
Your choice: Graham or E&B vs. the Felon; Miller vs. Feinburg...E&B or Graham or poss. O'Reilly vs. Rush.
Severin vs. Carr. As for 7 pm, if they somehow move O'Reilly back to 1-3 pm, maybe they can pick up
Mark Levin or they could put Jimmy Myers or someone else local on.

Talent on loan from Oxy is one of my lines :) but I don't mind when people steal my stuff (I also gave
Howie that joke about Fung Wah being Chinese for "The Bus Is On Fire")

Hannity? Only if WTKK picked up Carr.

Are you saying that Masters runs TalkRadioNetwork? (maybe he does, I don't know...I just know they have
Savage, Ingraham, Doyle, Bruce, and even Jackie mason)

(raccoon) Severin would never do morning drive, agreed.

I'm not sure Severin would play as well in the morning as he does in the afternoon. Some shows are just made for certain time slots. Severin was given the big bucks to counter-program Howie Carr, not to have his head handed to him by Dennis & Callahan.

As for Barnicle, well, he bombed midday so I don't see where he'd do a whole lot better in AMD. On the plus side for WTKK, he was joined at the hip with Imus, might keep some of the old Imus audience, and could possibly save some of the Imus advertiser base.

....Carr on WTKK? Maybe, but be aware with regards to the sports interruption that from henceforth all weekday aft. games (Sox) are on WEEI and there are no more Celtics conflicts (moving to WEEI). Carr makes too much money for a station switch, especially to a time slot for which he's probably not well suited, Carr is a natural for PMD. Switching to a more competitive time slot and a station which would lower his audience and visability wouldn't make any sense for Carr or WTKK. Besides, his 'distress' at the sports preemptions was mostly just part of his curmudgeon act

I would love to have them put Dennis Miller in at 10 am after Graham or E&B.

How about Miller instead of Egan and Braude? Heck, I'd listen.

...As for 7 pm, if they somehow move O'Reilly back to 1-3 pm,...

Wasn't O'Reilly moved because he couldn't turn a good enough midday number? If so, I don't see where anything's changed.

.... they could put Jimmy Myers or someone else local on....

I dunno. Myers has a way of wearing out his welcome. He was disliked enough at WBZ TV that the techs sabotaged his final sportscast. When I knew him, 20 years ago, he played the chippy 'angry Black man' role so incessantly that he had everyone wondering what hell he was talking about. Perhaps he's mellowed, but I don't think he has, or would have, enough appeal to become a major player in the talk wars.

Hannity? Only if WTKK picked up Carr.

I've never understood the attraction of Hannity. Although a lot of folks seem to like him because of his politics, every issue seems to be all about him, and he has an annoying habit of injecting himself into every interview, at the expense of whatever point the interviewee is trying to make. Plus, he gives new meaning to the description 'apostle of the obvious.' But, nothing succeeds like success, and he certainly has that, in two mediums.

Regards,
TSB

Where is the usual "TAI can do talk radio" post?

That's right, let's bring him in too. Thomas Arthur Irwin was a tech advisor for WMWM for a few years (also
did mornings at WFNX, late nights and then mornings at WRKO, and mornings at WZLX...oh and some fill ins at WTKK (I think when Imus was on vacation). Nice guy. Has blog the Tai-rade on BostonHerald.com
